My Dearly Beloved! From the Pastor s Desk Thank you to all parishioners, and all who come to pray in our church, because thanks to you; my heart is filled with joy and gratitude. It is because of your goodness, love, and kindness, which I experience from you every day, along with the priests and nuns who live and serve here. My every humble request is met with a great response from you and all pleas for help in doing something good for our church are always met with a positive response, which exceeds my wildest expectations. For that, I love you more and more each day! Being a pastor of St. Albert s requires of me to represent our parish outside the walls of our Church. So, from time to time, I participate in various liturgical celebrations; recently with Cardinal Cupich, other times with bishops and priests from the Archdiocese of Chicago. I'm glad to hear that many of you like "my" Masses and would like me to celebrate them as often as possible. Please believe me, I always like to celebrate Masses in our St. Albert the Great upper room. Being with you and for you at the altar is my joy and happiness! Last Sunday parishioners loaded bottled water on the truck (from J.J. Trucking Co.), which delivered it to the victims of flooding in Texas City, TX. Water was donated by parishioners of St. Albert. This special delivery was received with great joy by the Our Lady of Fatima School on Monday, October 16th. MAY GOD BLESS ALL FAMILIES OF ST. First, there is the intended assembly, which is described as comprised of mostly children of school age. There are three Eucharistic Prayers for Masses with Children available to us now in the missal. The first one has a very simple form, easily grasped by even a young child. The second has a great deal of participation by the assembly repeated sung acclamations. The third has a number of variations that can be tricky for a priest to handle if he hasn t prepared carefully. All of this work does point to a true treasure of our tradition: children are part of the Sunday assembly, precisely because they are baptized members of Christ s body. By contrast, the churches of the Reformation tend to look upon children as members in training, and see worship as an adult activity. Sunday school happens downstairs while the adults celebrate Holy Communion upstairs. In a phrase, that s not Catholic. Children belong to Christ and to the assembly. So, the desire to care for the children in the assembly, to draw them into the prayer, and to adapt our rituals and texts to their needs is deeply Catholic, a true pastoral effort to help draw everyone into the praise of God.
