3 Page 3 From the Pastor s Desk Dear Friends! Today we are hosting in our parish representatives from the Knights of Columbus. These men will bring us closer to their history and explain the mission of this Catholic Organization. I thank them for visiting with us here at St. Albert s and hope that some of our parishioners will be able to join this group. In Rogers Hall today, we are celebrating our Parish Easter - Spring Brunch. For a very reasonable price, you will enjoy delicious American, Italian, Polish, Mexican and Filipino food. Please come down after the Mass, and together we will spend time not only on dining but meeting our fellow parishioners and enjoying each other s company. My dearly beloved! This event is not so much about food consumption as building our parish family and enjoying some friendly atmosphere. We need to remember that where there is peace, unity, kindness, goodness and love, there God is always present! The entire proceeds from our parish brunch will be used for the renovation of our church s Sanctuary. Because of this I would like to thank all individuals who took part in the preparation of our Brunch, all parish organizations, ethnic groups and our schools for their participation in our delicious event as well as all who prepared many tasty dishes. Please remember that wherever you are, you are always loved by us! Right now in our parish we are approaching a time of the First Communion Ceremonies. Let us embrace with kind prayer all the children who will receive Jesus in the gift of the Holy Eucharist for the first time. May this special time of year be a blessed time for all of us! Mariusz TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Some monks and nuns trace their community origins back a thousand years or so, before it became customary to reserve the Blessed Sacrament in tabernacles. In their rules of life, which evolved from the lifestyle and prayer of their predecessors, the core experience of Christ s presence is at the altar itself, and in the symbol of assembly for prayer. To this day, when the monks or nuns file into their church in procession, they march two by two, and then bow profoundly to the altar before turning and bowing in reverence toward the brother or sister at their side. It is probably more difficult, in practice, to revere the presence of Christ in a person who irks you by taking the car keys, shirking a work duty, or burning the toast! We can trace in these religious orders enduring customs the ancient appreciation for the altar as the center of the church building, and of the community of the faithful as the Body of Christ. Usually, a monastery today will reserve the Blessed Sacrament in some quiet corner of the monastic church, in a fairly small space, more suitable for private prayer than for the gathering of the whole community. In a cloister, the architecture may allow the public limited access to this space. Liturgical law tells us, in both monasteries and parish churches, that there is no need for more than a few hosts in the place of reservation, just enough for viaticum, the food for the journey that is the final sacramental celebration for a dying Christian. MOMS, POPS AND TOTS St. Albert the Great school is offering a 2 year old program on Tuesday mornings for moms, pops, and tots to come together and get those academic juices flowing! Alberta Wielkiego gościmy Rycerzy Kolumba, ktorzy przybliżą nam historię i działalność tej katolickiej organizacji. Dziękujemy im za przybycie i mam nadzieję, że choć kilku mężczyzn zainteresuje się i zasili ich szeregi. Także dziś tj. w niedzielę w sali pod kościołem celebrujemy nasze parafialne, wielkanocne śniadanie i obiad. Za symboliczną kwotę możemy zakupić bardzo smaczne jedzenie. Możemy po Mszy Świętej wspólnie spędzić czas nie tylko na jedzeniu, ale także możemy wspólnie porozmawiać i cieszyć się sobą. Moi Drodzy! More information and order forms are available in the parish office. ON THE ROAD One central metaphor employed to describe the Christian life is a journey. In today s second reading, Peter addresses the early Christian community: Conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your sojourning (1 Peter 1:17). When we think of a journey, we normally think of some kind of movement from point A to point B. The Christian journey, begun in the waters of baptism (point A) has as its ultimate destination eternal life with God in heaven (point B). Unfortunately we find ourselves on all kinds of detours along the way. Because of sin, we make foolish turns and sometimes seem unable to detect the presence of the Lord. Today s story of the two disciples on their way to Emmaus illustrates for us the fact that, even when we are dejected or on one of our many detours, the Lord is there, walking right beside us.
