They will be sold the weekend of February and will delight anyone with a sweet tooth while making sure that our parish Pro-Life ministry will help to save babies for anothe year. CHOICE If you choose you can keep the commandments, Sirach tells us. God has set before you fire and water; to whichever you choose, stretch forth your hand (Sirach 15:15, 16). This is a great mystery: God does not control us so completely that we cannot choose our own path. We have certain boundaries, of course, but no one but we can choose our way within those boundaries. In today s reading from Matthew s Gospel, Jesus reminds us of our freedom and our responsibility for our lives. He calls us to look beyond the words of the commandments, all the way to their meaning. Look beyond the adultery to the selfishness that poisons our love. Look beyond the murder to the anger that eats away at our compassion. Look beyond the perjured testimony to the lies and deception that drive our behavior. 3 Dear Friends! From the Pastor s Desk Today all parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago begin the Annual Catholic Appeal. This year s theme is Love your neighbor as yourself. As we prepare to make a financial pledge to this appeal, we listen to the speech of Cardinal Blasé and ponder his words in our hearts and in our minds. The goal designated for our parish by the Archdiocese of Chicago is $54, Please, know that extra funds collected during this Appeal will be returned to our parish and will be used to finance upcoming projects in the church and surrounding grounds. Next weekend (February 18th and 19th) each family will receive during Mass a pledge envelope; please fill it out in the pew or at home. The following weekend (February 25th and 26th) you will be able to drop off your pledges during any Sunday collection or at the parish office. I believe that together, through prayers, commitment, and sacrifice we can fulfill our goals and dreams for the St. Albert parish. Every day we receive from you so much support, kindness, understanding, and love. I know that you love Jesus and His church; you love this parish, priests, and nuns. For all this may Jesus be glorified! Thank you so much for all your spiritual and material support. It has been 6 months since I came back to St. Albert the Great parish and together with all wonderful parishioners and all who pray in our church we were able to carry out many wonderful things: we replaced the church roof, remodeled priest s rooms, installed a new playground for children from our schools, improved technologyas well as the computer equipment in the St. Albert s school, painted and updated the school library and increased number of students in our school. Right now we have work done on old bathrooms in the nuns residence. Recently, new school signs were prepared by the Chramiec family and now we are getting ready to install a new electronic sign for our parish at the intersection of State Road and Central Avenue. If a parish organization, group, business, store, restaurant, bakery owners, or parishioners would like to support this project with a financial gift, we will be forever grateful. Please help us meet these goals for our parish. Please, remember that we are actually doing all this for ourselves and our home we call the St. Albert the Great Parish. After the Parish Council and Financial Council meetings (next week), I will tell you about our new plans. May Christ s blessings strengthen you in the upcoming week! Jesus, I trust in You! Fr. 5 Drodzy Parafianie! Z biurka Ks. Proboszcza Dziś w naszej Diecezji Chicago i w naszej parafii zaczynamy coroczną Kwestę Katolicką pod hasłem: Kochaj bliźniego swego jak siebie samego. Dziś wsłuchujemy się w słowa naszego kardynała Błażeja Cupich, rozważamy je w swoim sercu i umyśle oraz przygotowujemy się do złożenia już za tydzień naszego finansowego zobowiązania. Naszym tegorocznym celem wyznaczonym nam przez Diecezję Chicago jest zebranie $ 54, Pamiętajmy także, że dodatkowo zebrane fundusze w 100 % zostaną w naszej parafii i zasilą nasze konto parafialne. Dzięki tym pieniężnym ofiarom będziemy mogli wciąż kontynuować prace, które wkrótce rozpoczniemy w kościele i wokół niego. Za tydzień (18 i 19 luty) w czasie naszych niedzielnych nabożeństw każda rodzina i osoby indywidualne otrzymają specjalną kopertkę wraz z finansowym zobowiązaniem, które będzie można od ręki wypełnić lub wypełnić je w domu. W kolejny zaś tydzień (25 i 26 luty) nasze zobowiązania finansowe będziemy mogli złożyć w czasie niedzielnej składki lub w tygodniu w kancelarii parafialnej. Wierzę, że wspólnym modlitwami, siłami, zaangażowaniem i ofiarnością uda nam się zrealizować ten cel oraz zrealizować nasze parafialne cele i marzenia. Wiem, że kochacie Jezusa i Jego Kościół, kochacie naszą parafię, księży i siostry zakonne. Codziennie doświadczamy od was wiele przejawów wsparcia, życzliwości, zrozumienia, dobroci i miłości. Za to wszystko niech Jezus będzie uwielbiony! Za wszelkie dobro duchowe i materialne wam dziękuję i z serca wam błogosławię. W ciągu zaledwie 6 miesięcy od mojego ponownego przyjścia do was wraz z Wami, wspaniałymi parafianami i modlącymi się w naszym kościele udało nam się dokonać wielu wspaniałych rzeczy: wymienić dach na naszym kościele; przygotować i poprawić mieszkania dla księży; wybudować plac zabaw dla dzieci z naszych szkół; poprawić znacznie techniczne i komputerowe wyposażenie naszej Katolickiej Szkoły; wymalowano i odnowiono bibliotekę szkolną; wzrosła także liczba uczniów w naszej szkole; zamówiono i wydrukowano nowe parafialne śpiewniki. Obecnie remontujemy łazienki w mieszkaniach naszych sióstr zakonnych (stare i zniszczone przez czas od momentu ich wybudowania). W tym miejscu z głębi serca dziękuje tym wszystkim, którzy nam w tych pracach pomagają (Piotrowi Szostak, Krzyśkowi Rusin i Zbyszkowi Kubicz). Przygotowujemy się także do zamontowania nowej elektronicznej tablicy naszego kościoła, od strony parkingu zamontujemy przygotowane już przez Rodzinę Chramiec tablice informacyjne naszych szkół. Gdyby ktoś z was chciałby wesprzeć to dzieło swoją ofiarą pieniężną to będziemy wam za to bardzo, bardzo wdzięczni! Myślę w tym momencie o naszch parafialnych organizacjach, stowarzyszeniach i grupach, zachęcam do współpracy nasze Polske szkoły, myślę również o właścicielach biznesów, sklepów, ciastkarni, restauracji itp. Proszę pomóżcie nam wspólnie zrealizować te nasze prace i marzenia. Pamiętajcie, że towszystko robimy dla swojego domu, czyli dla siebie! Temu domowi jest na imię St. Albert the Great Parish w Burbank! Już za tydzień, po spotkaniu z Radą Parafialną i Finansową naszej parafii poinformuję was więcej o kolejnych planach i pracach. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION By the early 1950s some scholars were calling for the restoration of Communion of the faithful on Good Friday, since by then only a priest received, consuming the host from the Holy Thursday repository. In 1955 the new Good Friday liturgy was timed to begin at three o clock everywhere, and included the option of Holy Communion, but without the Precious Blood that had originally been part of the liturgy. Today, there is increasing debate among theologians. Some feel that it would be better to fast from the Eucharist on Good Friday, focusing on the mystery of the cross and highlighting the Easter Communion. Others say that this Communion infuses the sadness of the day with awareness of Christ s victory. It is not a day of mourning, of course, and the Passion according to John grounds the liturgy in a sense of Christ s victory over death and the triumph of the cross. The tradition is rich and varied, and we are still in the early stages of recovering an ancient way of doing things. Why do we call the day good? The English and Dutch languages share this name, and its origin stems from the name God s Friday. The traditional name for the day in Latin is Feria VI in Parasceve, which translates as The Sixth Day of the Week of Preparation. Other languages make do with Holy Friday. In another part of England, as in Denmark, the people used to call it Long Friday, a good description for a quiet day without work and no chance for play or a good meal! Rev.
