TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Apart from the period from Thanksgiving through Christmas, the summer is a favored time for family reunions. We trace family trees and recall our origins. Worship has a family tree as well, and the way we celebrate today has been influenced by various styles and customs through the centuries. We are Western Christians of the Latin Rite. By far, we are the most numerous Western Christians, but there are other ritual families as well. The Archdiocese of Milan in Italy follows the Ambrosian Rite, Toledo in Spain preserves the Mozarabic Rite and the Arab language, and Lyons in France is home to the Gallican Rite. Other liturgical families, such as the Celtic in Ireland and the Sarum in England, faded away after the Reformation. Until recent times, members of some ancient religious orders such as Carmelites and Trappists followed a pattern of Mass that varied slightly from the plan observed in Latin Rite parishes. Isn t the Catholic Church the same everywhere? Not at all. It never has been! The existence of so many liturgical families in the West reminds us that unity, not uniformity, is what the Church seeks to achieve among her children. 3 From the Pastor s Desk Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ! Our parish Carnival is approaching quickly (August 22nd to August 25 th - Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Please, remember that on Sunday August 25th the 1:30 pm Polish Mass will be cancelled and instead we will celebrate a bilingual (English/Polish) Mass at 12:00 pm. I urge parents and grandparents of our parish to buy Megapasses ($50.00 each) for their children and grandchildren. Megapasses can be purchased each Sunday after each Mass and during the week in the parish office. Let s gather together at the parish carnival as a loving God s Family that respects all of her members. Please participate in the carnival Raffle. The main prize is $5, and six additional prizes are $ each. Raffle tickets are still available in the parish office - $5.00 each. The Carnival Committee is looking for new items and wine or gift cards for the Cranival Silent Auction. Please drop off your Silent Auction donations at the parish office. 5 Moi Kochani Bracia i Siostry! Z biurka Ks. Proboszcza Zbliża się nasz coroczny Karnawał Parafialny (22 sierpnia do 25 sierpnia tj. czwartek, piątek, sobota i niedziela). Zapamiętajmy, że w niedzielę 25 sierpnia nie będzie Mszy Świętej o godz. 1:30 po południu. W tym dniu Msza Święta o godz. 12:00 w południe będzie dwujęzyczna (English/Polish). Zachęcam rodziców i dziadków do kupowania Megapassów dla dzieci i młodzieży (50 $). W czasie naszego Karnawału bądźmy wszyscy razem jako wielka szanująca się Rodzina Boża! Do kancelarii parafialnej możemy jak zawsze przynosić nowe rzeczy na loterię fantową oraz bardzo was zachęcam do zakupywania specjalnych losów w cenie 5 $ za jeden. Główna nagroda wynosi 5,000 $ oraz mamy sześć mniejszych nagród po 500 $. Zachęcam też was z całego serca do udziału w Pieszej Pielgrzymce Maryjnej do Merrillville w Indianie (10 i 11 sierpień). Zapisy na pielgrzymkę wciąż trwają. Zapisywać się możemy po każdej niedzielnej Eucharystii oraz w tygodniu w kancelarii parafialnej.
