Jesus, in turn, is amazed that they have no faith in him because they know his origins, not because of any fault with his teaching or ministry. As with many of Mark s passages, we get a rather intimate glimpse here of the human part of Jesus two-fold nature. To reinforce his point, Mark tells of Jesus return to his native place, and further points out that he is in the midst of his own family members there. From the very people he expected the most, Jesus received the least. In the day of the Gospel s writing, Mark was attempting to illustrate a lesson to the house of Israel: the God of the covenant expected the greatest faith from the house of Israel, but often received the least. This is a good source for reflection on our part, we who are Jesus followers today. For the wisdom of Christ to continue and for our lives to be seen as signs of his power, he must expect and be able to find great faith among us. Will he? Can he? Does he? Or is he, once again, amazed by its absence? Copyright J. S. 5 St. Albert the Great School of Religious Education RCIA News What is RCIA? RCIA stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and it is the process through which persons adults 18 years of age or older join or complete their initiation into the Catholic Church. For additional information please contact Deacon Pete Manning, Coordinator of Religious Education for St. Albert the Great Parish at Is The RCIA for me? The RCIA is for three groups of people: 1. Those who are not baptized 2. Those who were baptized into another Christian denomination and wish to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. 3. Baptized Catholics who were never formed in the Catholic faith and have not completed their initiation; that is, who have never received the sacraments of Confirmation and or Eucharist. How does the RCIA Work? RCIA consist of four periods of formation which are marked by rituals that celebrate what has been completed and call a person into the next phase. There is no specific length of time for each period. The RCIA is a journey which gives a person time for prayer, study, and conversation so as to hear the Word of God and embrace the call to discipleship and holiness. The stages are as follows. 1. The Inquiry or Pre-catechumenate 2. The Catechumenate 3. The Lenten period of purification and Enlightenment 4. Mystagogy or a time of deeper understanding of the mysteries Classes and Costs Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. here at St. Albert the Great. Classes will begin on Tuesday September 1, 2015, you will need to register prior to September 1st. You can call Deacon Pete at the number below to set up an appointment. There is no cost for RCIA, however we do ask for a free will offering. How do I find out more?
