From the Pastor s Desk My Dear Friends! Today we celebrate the Second Sunday of Advent and continue to straighten our paths for the coming of Jesus Christ in the mystery of Christmas. In this holy season of Advent let us remember that Jesus should be at the center of our lives. Therefore, every day we have to take good care of the presence of Jesus in our life and in the lives of our families! Because of your kindness and generosity, we are able to continue with important work and improvements on the parish buildings; tuck pointing was done over the Cry Rooms, gutters were installed on the sisters house, carpet and bench cushions in the church have been professionally cleaned. Once again I would like to express heartfelt words of thanks for all the good that you do every day for "your beloved Church"! In this week s bulletin you will find a complete Christmas Mass schedule, information about Christmas Carols concert by our parish choirs (Saturday, January 6 th at 6:00 pm) and by our organist Kasia Szczech along with guests from the St. Xavier University (Saturday, January 13 th at 7:00 pm). Christmas season is rich in many events. Last week, Monday December 4th we had a nice get together with our parish Senior s Club; their special guest was mayor of Burbank, Mr. Dan Foy who assured us of his and town s support for our parish and relayed Merry Christmas and Happy New Year wishes. We wish the Mayor and the City of Burbank officials a Blessed Christmas as well. Finally, please remember that on December 16/ 17 (Saturday & Sunday) the second collection will be for the Christmas flowers and decorations. I ask you for understanding, generosity and kindness! Just like during the Christmas or New Year we shower each other with gifts, please make a generous gift to your church during the Christmas, New Year and St. Stephen Masses. I am convinced that Baby Jesus will remember your special sacrifices and bless you abundantly each day of the New Year 2018. I am grateful for each donation that you make, and embrace all of you with warm and zealous prayer! May the Maternal love of Our Lady of Guadalupe be with us during the following weeks of advent. We will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Tuesday, December 12 th. Jesus, I trust in You! Fr. Page 3 NEWS OF COMFORT In a time of preparation, much of it having to do with material things, it is good to hear the words of Isaiah, Comfort, give comfort to my people, / says your God (Isaiah 40:1). In a time of such stress and rush, when our usual burdens are augmented by piles of Christmas preparations, we can choose to slow down, take some time to heal, and appreciate the enormous gift we are about to receive. Christ, the Son of God, has become one of us, and knows our human limitations. Yet God, even now, is freeing us from the burdens that our inattentiveness to our God and to our deepest inner longings have heaped upon us. The Lord comes, not as a king with mighty armies, but as a shepherd leading the flocks with care and tenderness. Isaiah prophesies good news: our oppression is over, our sins forgiven. The savior we have awaited is coming, not the first time, but in the end times, as our salvation. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. St. Albert the Great Sacred Heart of Jesus Eucharistic Adoration Chapel is open Monday - Saturday 8:30 am - 8:30 pm Parishioners are needed to commit ONE HOUR per week. We invite all of you to attend a Holy Mass in the Chapel Saturday, December 16, 2017 Anyone in our parish that is sick or homebound, and would like to receive Holy Communion, please call the parish office and request a visit from the Minister of Care.

Moi Drodzy! Z biurka Ks. Przy tej okazji Mr. Foy przekazał naszej parafii życzenia świąteczne i noworoczne: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Proszę was o wyrozumiałość, hojność i życzliwość! Wszystkich dobroczyńców ogarniam serdeczną i gorliwą modlitwą. Niech w kolejnym tygodniu Adwentu towarzyszy nam matczyna opieka Matki Bożej z Guadalupe, której Święto obchodzić będziemy we wtorek 12 grudnia. Jezu, ufam Tobie! Fr. The Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome has housed what is said to be relics of the cradle of Jesus since the seventh century. In time, every year during the Christmas season the reliquary (container for relics) was surrounded by an increasingly grand three-dimensional scene of the place of Jesus birth. Rocks and trees, houses, streams, figurines of villagers going about their daily tasks were all included. It was a very dramatic presentation. If you ve ever seen an elaborate model train installation, you get the idea. The proper term for this depiction is presepio, from the Latin word for surround or hedge. Over the centuries, the custom spread first to churches, and then to aristocratic homes. In Italy, whole chapels are often set aside for the presepio, and it is not unusual to have hundreds of figures. It can sometimes be a challenge to locate the Holy Family amid the crowd, almost like a Where s Waldo? children s book. The oldest surviving presepio is in St. Mary Major and dates from the thirteenth century, although many pieces have been broken or lost. Saint Francis of Assisi took a decidedly creative step in 1233 in the village of Greccio, when he directed his followers to fill a manger with hay and tether an ox and ass nearby. He then invited the villagers to attend Mass outdoors near the crib, the worshipers themselves becoming a living presepio. By the seventeenth century, the tradition was well-established, particularly in Naples, and had a firm hold in Portugal, Spain, and in the Provence region of France. Today, it is not unusual to find presepios with five hundred figures, a vivid reminder of Emmanuel, God-with-us! Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
