From the Pastor s Desk Dear Friends! We are in the middle of Lent, and before we know we will celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The time of Lent in our parish has been filled with many events. I would like to thank all of you for all the good works on behalf of our parish, which is done with devotion and love. This shows that, without a question, you take responsibility for our home, which we call St. Albert the Great. Regardless the difference in languages we speak, we are a respectful and considerate parish community. For this, I am forever grateful to you! I would like to thank you for your presence and support of the Fish Fry Fridays. I am happy to have these dinners in Rogers Hall, because not only do we consume food, but meet other parishioners, friends, and acquaintances. This time gives us an opportunity to socialize and share with others the joys and sorrows of our daily life. I would like to thank all the Holy Name members and all those responsible for organization and preparation of dinners and for their hard work in the kitchen. Please, remember; all the profits from the Fish Fry Fridays are designated for the parish needs. I hope to see you this Friday in Rogers hall. I will be waiting for you! I would like to thank in a special way all parishioners who attend the Stations of the Cross during Lent. Let s remember that participation in these devotions is a form of rewarding God for our sins. Thank you very much for celebrating together the feast of St. Patrick. Our gratitude and thanks go to Teresa Miller. Thank you very much for the beautiful Irish music, dancers and food in Rogers Hall. Thank you for the St. Joseph s Table and the sweet table. I promise you, that next year we will have even more pastries and will serve Italian coffee. The entire amount of the proceeds will be used to help the needy in our parish. My big thank you goes to the Parish Council president Guy Cesario and Jesse Benanti and all volunteers. Together with St. Albert the Great Catholic School I would like to thank all who supported Catholic Education and participated in the school s Great Event last Saturday. Congratulations to the winners of the Great Raffle. As far as the upcoming parish events; we invite you for the presentation of the Lord s Passion on Saturday, April 1st at 6:00 pm in English and 7:30 pm in Polish. I also would like to invite you to take part in the outdoor Stations of the Cross on Saturday, April 8th. We will leave from the parking lot of St. Louis de Montfort church at 6:30 pm and make way through the streets of Oak Lawn and Burbank to St. Albert the Great church, where we will end with devotions. Let us all be united during this special time. Beginning April 4th, our Catholic school will offer free, bilingual (English-Polish) activity program (9:30 am -10:30 am) for parents with children (2 years old) until the end of the school year. Please take advantage of this opportunity and bring your child to play in our school. Finally, we are planning for you a wonderful Parish Spring Brunch, Sunday, April 30, 2017. More information to follow soon. May our Dear Lord Bless You in the coming week. Jesus, I trust in You! Fr. Mariusz Please Join Us! Z biurka Ks. Proboszcza Drodzy Parafianie! Czekam tam na was! W sobotę 1 kwietnia zapraszamy do udziału w Misterium Męki Pańskiej w naszym kościele, które przygotowała grupa teatralna Wieczernik z bazyliki św. Jacka (o godz. 6:00 wieczorem w języku angielskim i o godz. 7:30 wieczorem w języku polskim). W sobotę 8 kwietnia zapraszamy do udziału w pleneryjnej Drodze Krzyżowej z kościoła św. Louis de Montfort (Oak Lawn) do naszego kościoła św. Alberta Wielkiego w Burbank. Początek Drogi Krzyżowej o godz. 6:30 wieczorem. Niech to będzie swoista manifestacja wiary, nadziei i miłości do Jezusa ukrzyżowanego. To nabożeństwo Drogi Krzyżowej zakończymy adoracją Krzyża i Mszą Świętą w naszym kościele. Zamiast siedzieć z dzieckiem w domu przyjdź z nim do naszej szkoły. 8:00 rano do godz. Zainteresowanych prosimy o kontakt z nim (tel. /708/ 307-6179). Jezu, ufam Tobie Ks. Mariusz Page 5 Droga Krzyżowa w każdy Piątek Postu o godzinie 7:00 wieczorem Gorzkie Żale w niedziele o godzinie 4:30 po południu Rejestracja uczniów do Polskiej Szkoły im. ks. Ignacego Posadzego trwa w budynku szkoły w czasie trwania lekcji tj. w piątek i w sobotę.

Today s custom of placing this portion in a tabernacle for prayer and adoration by the faithful cannot be traced back much beyond the year 1,000, much to almost everyone s surprise. There is simply no historical evidence of the Blessed Sacrament being present in a church for the purpose of having the faithful visit it or pray before it earlier in the church s history. People did visit, of course, but the center of their attention was the altar, symbol of Christ s sacrifice and the touchpoint between heaven and earth. Shrines and devotional altars abounded in medieval churches, but anything we might describe as a Blessed Sacrament chapel would be hard to find. Amazingly, the Eucharist was first kept in private houses for the purpose of Holy Communion at home. As for church, the custom gradually developed of suspending a vessel shaped like a dove somewhere in the church, often over the altar. In the hovering bird, a few hosts, enough to satisfy the pastoral needs of the dying, would be secreted. The priest would lower the dove on a pulley as needed, but it wasn t a focus of devotion by visitors to the church. It was simply a way of reassuring bishops who were nervous about safeguarding the Eucharist. The dove solution caught on in England and France after Crusaders came in contact with the custom in their travels in the Orthodox East. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
