You may place your donation, along with the envelope in the collection basket. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The fact that many monastic churches do not have a prominent tabernacle shapes the patterns of liturgical prayer. Monastic communities often protect the ancient value of receiving from the same sacrifice, meaning that the communicants are assured that what they eat and drink in the Holy Mysteries actually comes from the same celebration. It surprises many to learn that the Church does not foresee, nor does it provide for, Communion of the faithful from the reserved Sacrament. Liturgical laws have long defended your right to receive from the same sacrifice, the same Mass, that you attend. At one time, of course, the bread for the Eucharist was the ordinary bread of the day, except unleavened, probably prepared at home. It was broken and distributed to the faithful. Early on the loaf itself was referred to as the hostia in Latin, meaning the sacrifice, the same word for the sacrificial animal in Jewish worship, and for Jesus as the Lamb of God. By giving his life on the cross, Jesus became the hostia for us. To this day in the Greek Church, one of the tasks of the priest s wife is to bake the bread for the Divine Liturgy, sometimes in a bakery oven dedicated to that purpose and called a Bethlehem. Today s familiar individual hosts first appeared in the eleventh century at about the time when tabernacles were coming into use. The turn away from bready bread allowed the hosts to be reserved since they did not spoil like regular bread, and made the annual Easter duty counts easier. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. The entire profit from ours very tasty event will be designated toward the renovation of the church Sanctuary. Work on the Sanctuary should begin soon. My Dearly Beloved! My greatest desire is that everyone who comes to our church would feel responsible for our parish community, that they would register and become parishioners who take responsibility for what takes place here at St. Albert s. We should not remain indifferent, anonymous, Sunday tourists who appear at Mass one week and disappear another week. Let us remember that strength is attained by unity. To all who stand on the sides and indifferently observe the Mass, I say today: do not be afraid, come join us, become part of our parish family! The renovation work in Rogers Hall continues and it looks like it will be finished in the upcoming weeks. On this occasion, I thank Łukasz and Wiesiek for their dedication and a beautiful job. In the future, we will have a plaque made, on which we will commemorate all the years of your kindness and generosity. Thank very much to all who made a contribution toward the St. Albert s garden trees and shrubs as well as ; Stanley, Lucas, Bogusia, Krzys, Ania, Andrzej, Miguel and Luis for donating time and talent to make it beautiful. As the time goes by you will see this garden fill up with many more shrubs and flowers. Next Sunday, May 14th after each Mass in Rogers Hall we will have the opportunity to congratulate Raul Duque and Lukasz Pyka on their ordination to the diaconate. Please embrace them with kindness and prayers during this special time. Saturday, May 20th at 11:00 am in the church parking lot we will have the blessing of motorcycles. On Sunday, June 4th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm we will celebrate the International Child s Day. Z biurka Ks. Proboszcza Drodzy Parafianie! Alberta Wielkiego. Dziękuję tym, którzy ofiarowali swój czas i pracę, a zatem dziękuję Staszkowi, Łukaszowi, Bogusi, Krzyśkowi, Ani, Andrzejowi, Miguel i Luis. Z biegiem upływu czasu to miejsce będzie wyglądać jeszcze piękniej i będzie mieć jeszcze więcej ozdobnych krzewów i kwiatów. Wspólnota Silna Rodzina organizuje w naszej parafii cykl warsztatów pt. Wreszcie Żyć. Spotkania odbywać się będą w II i IV soboty miesiąca w budynku administracyjnym o godz. 6 wieczorem. Zapraszamy do wspólnej modlitwy wszyskie Kluby Motocyklistów i sympatyków jednośladów. Także w niedzielę 4 czerwca od godz. 10 rano aż do godz. W programie: smaczne jedzenie, grilowanie, napoje, piwo, lody, gry, zabawy, konkursy, malowanie twarzy, śpiew i muzyka. Jezu, ufam Tobie! Ks. THE CALL OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD The Twenty-third Psalm, today s responsorial psalm, is arguably the best known of all the psalms. The line that reads Even though I walk in the dark valley / I fear no evil; for you are at my side / with your rod and your staff / that give me courage (Psalm 23:4) connects this week s scriptures to the wonderful story of the road to Emmaus, which we heard last week. The Lord Jesus, our Good Shepherd, is constantly at our side. He calls us each by name, beckoning us into a deeper relationship with him. That call, issued to each of us at the moment of our baptism, carries with it the promise of the Good Shepherd: I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10).
