Their relationship in Christian faith and life, however, has fallen somewhat out of favor in the past generation, as certain prescribed Church rules and regulations have been reduced and relaxed. These rules were often referred to as disciplines. We are mistaken, however, to think that it no longer takes discipline to follow Christ. The Letter to the Hebrews assures us of that today. Our discipline is more like that of an athlete pursuing a victory or a personal best, or a musician striving for a concert career or to master a new piece of music. This discipline comes from LET US PRAY FOR THE SICK desire, not from regulations. It was the desire to do the will of God that led Jesus on the path to his cross. It is that same desire he encourages in us today: to strive to enter through the narrow gate, to find ourselves in the kingdom with a surprising assortment of people who are there not because of mere observation of rules, but out of a genuine desire to recline at the table of the heavenly banquet. Dear Friends! It is hard to believe that our parish Carnival is just a few days away (August 25th-28th). Its success in a great measure depends on you. Please join us at 79 th Street and Harlem for upcoming festivities; invite your family, relatives, friends, and neighbors. May we create bonds of respect, kindness, unity, and joy. Let s pray together for God s blessings, success of this year s carnival and good weather through the intercession of Our Holy Mother and St. Albert the Great. It is my dream that our future Carnivals will take place on the parish grounds in front of St. Albert the Great Church. I trust that with God s help and people s kindness this will happen someday. Few weeks ago I spoke with Burbank s Mayor, Mr. Harry Klein and we agreed that all future, smaller scale celebrations will take place in the church s parking lot. I am very proud that Mr. Harry Klein is our parishioner and is with us at Mass every Sunday. Our relationship with the city authorities is getting better; there is a lot of good will and understanding from both sides. For example, Sunday, October 16, 2016 we will hold a Harvest Day right here on the parish grounds. I will give you more information about this event when we get closer to this date. Work on the church roof already began. We pray for safety of all workers and good weather. Friday, August 26th, is the feast of our Lady of Czestochowa; the Queen of Poland and our families. Mass schedule for Friday is as follows: 6:30 am, 8:30 am (in English) and 7:30 am, 6:00 pm (in Polish). Please join us! We will pray for the intentions of our homeland and our parish. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION In recent decades, attention has shifted away from headgear as a symbol of a bishop s authority to a more substantial symbol: the chair, called the cathedra. The word comes from the Latin word for a chair with armrests. It is exactly the reason why dining room sets were marketed in this country a few years ago with only one chair with armrests, the captain s chair. In many rectories of a certain vintage, you will see only one chair with arms at the dining table, a sign to the assisting priests of their proper place in the constellation. For us, as with most Anglicans and some Lutherans, the cathedra is a sign of the teaching authority of the bishop. We inherited the symbolism of the chair from Roman civil "Jesus, I trust you"! Fr. Mariusz. life in the fourth century. A church that houses a cathedra is called a cathedral, and the chair may be used only by the bishop of that diocese. Priests who preside at liturgy there must use a different presidential chair. You may find the cathedra in its most traditional place at the head of the apse, or against a side wall as was favored in medieval times, but increasingly bishops are locating the cathedra in the midst of the assembly of the faithful. In the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, visitors will find no barrier to their trying out the cathedra, an expression of hospitality that helps the archbishop be mindful of those whom he serves. Drodzy Przyjaciele! Z biurka Ks. Proboszcza Aż trudno uwierzyć, że od czwartku zaczynamy nasz karnawał parafialny (25-28 sierpień) na skrzyżowaniu ulic 79th i Harlem w Bridgeview. To jaki on będzie zależy także i od ciebie! Proszę, bądź z nami w te dni, zaproś swoją rodzinę, krewnych, znajomych i sąsiadów. Budujmy w te dni więzi szacunku, życzliwości, radości i jedności. Bądźmy razem! Moim marzeniem jest to, aby nasz parafialny karnawał wrócił na nasz parking przed kościołem. Ufam, że z pomocą Bożą i życzliwością ludzi kiedyś się to stanie! Już dziś módlmy się o Boże błogosławieństwo, opiekę Matki Bożej i świętego Alberta Wielkiego oraz o dobrą pogodę na czas parafialnego święta. Jestem bardzo dumny z tego, że nasz burmistrz Burbank jest naszym parafianinem i jest z nami w kościele w każdą niedzielę. Nasze relacje z władzami miasta są coraz lepsze, jest dużo dobrej woli, dużo zrozumienia i życzliwości z obu stron. Kilka tygodni temu rozmawiałem z burmistrzem Mr. Harry Klein i uzgodniliśmy, że wszystkie nasze mniejsze święta parafialne możemy w przyszłości już celebrować na naszym parkingu. Dla przykładu podam, że w miesiącu październiku (16 dnia miesiąca) będziemy koło naszego kościoła celebrować parafialne dożynki tzw. Harvest Day! W piątek 26 sierpnia będziemy obchodzić Święto Matki Bożej Częstochowskiej. Wraz z Królową Polski i naszych Rodzin módlmy się w intencjach naszej Ojczyzny, parafii i karnawału. W tym dniu zapraszamy na dwie Msze Święte w naszym kościele o godz. 7:30 rano i o godz. 6 popołudniu. Pragnę podziękować parafianom za otrzymane jarzyny z ogródka, pomidory, słodycze oraz ciasto. Niech wam Bóg wynagrodzi za okazaną troskę i życzliwość.
