Throw off strife, he tells us, and put on joy. Like a favorite old sweatshirt, joy fits, and how warm it keeps us, even when the winds blow cold. Paul knows of this joy as he pens his letter to the Philippians, praying that they may grow in their ability to discern what is righteous and good. And Luke speaks to us of John, who was foretold by Isaiah and who sings a similar song Prepare the way of the Lord, for salvation is at hand. W dzisiejszej liturgii słowa prorok Baruch zapowiada ludowi Bożemu, że Pan chce go pokazać innym ludom jako wspaniały, przyobleczony płaszczem sprawiedliwości pochodzącej od Boga i z koroną chwały Przedwiecznego na głowie, doznający pokoju, nazwany chwała pobożności oraz radujący się tym, że Bóg o nim pamięta. Lud ten jak wołał Baruch w odpowiedzi na życzenie Boga winien się nawrócić, zdjąć z siebie szatę smutku i utrapienia swego, podnieść się, stanąć na miejscu wysokim i poddać się wyzwalającej z niewoli zła mocy słowa Świętego. Urzeczywistnienie pragnienia Boga miało sprawić przyjście na ziemię Mesjasza, spełnienie się zapowiedzi danej przez Stwórcę upadłej pierwszej parze ludzkiej, Adamowi i Ewie (por. Rdz 3,15). Drogą przygotowania się ludu Bożego do przyjęcia zbawczej obecności Mesjasza miało być m.in. spełnienie wezwania św. Jana Chrzciciela prostowanie ścieżek dla Pana, porzucenie zła i wybór dobra, podjęcie trudu odnowy swego odniesienia do Boga i bliźnich, postępowanie zgodne z poznaną wolą Bożą. Dzisiejsze słowo Boże mówi nam jasno, że Bóg oczekuje od swych dzieci stylu życia, który dynamicznie przechodzi na wyższy poziom relacji z Nim samym. Wielkość powołania, jakim lud Boży został obdarowany, wyrażona choćby w słowach: Włóż na głowę swą koronę chwały Przedwiecznego! powinna wyzwolić w nas żywą gorliwość w wyznawaniu wiary i służbie Bogu.
