Page Two September 18, 2011 Spiritual Reflection GOD S ECONOMY Today s Gospel tells about a landowner who hired laborers to work in his vineyard. The first ones hired agreed to a price for a day s work. Late in the day, the landowner took on some extra hands. When work ended and the men received their pay, the first hires found they had received the same amount as the ones employed later. There was immediate grumbling about unfairness and being cheated. We should not make the mistake of interpreting this Gospel story in terms of how a boss should behave and how workers are treated in today s world. Fairness and justice in the marketplace are essential, and when a few enrich themselves at the expense of the many, we know it is wrong. As far back as 1891, Pope Leo XIII issued his encyclical Rerum Novarum ( Of New Things ). This ground-breaking document, well ahead of its time, focused on the relationships and mutual duties of labor and capital, and between governments and citizens. It affirmed the necessity of a just wage for working people to support their families, and the right of labor to form unions. The pope rejected both communism and unrestricted capitalism, while affirming the right to private property. In today s Gospel story, we must realize that Jesus is not talking about any of these issues, but rather, God s relationship with people. God acts with justice toward us: like the laborers who worked all day, we receive what God has promised. However, God is free to act above and beyond simple justice. God often gives with unexpected and lavish generosity, even to those we might consider unworthy. The truth is that in God s economy all of us get not merely what we deserve, but more than we could ever have bargained for. Copyright 2010, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. W WINNICY PANA... Jak to przed chwilą słyszeliśmy, On inaczej wynagradza, aniżeli ziemscy pracodawcy. My bowiem liczymy sobie każdą godzinę pracy i chcielibyśmy otrzymać wynagrodzenie według tabeli przepracowanych godzin. Tymczasem Bóg wynagradza poza - i beż używania tabeli płacy. Pan Jezus służył i my Jego wzorem mamy służyć. -- ks. Idzi --

Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Five Religious Education News Catechetical Sunday This year, the Church celebrates Catechetical Sunday on September 18, 2011, and focuses on the theme Do This in Memory of Me. Those whom the community has designated to serve as catechists are called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to honor the people of our Parish Community who bring the Church s teachings to our children. All catechists from St. Priscilla Religious Education Program received a special blessing at the 9:00 A.M. Mass. The following people have volunteered to teach in our program: ANTOINETTE SANDERS SISTER AGNES FRANCIS JUNG YOLANDA GOMEZ MAGDALENA KLESZCZ JOANNA RYDZEWSKI MICHELLE ADAMOWSKI RICK HERNANDEZ Catechetical Sunday gives us all a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon the role that each person plays in handling on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. It provides an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. Religious Education classes started on Saturday, September 17. We are still accepting students and will do so until the end of September. If you have not yet registered, there is still time to do so. Call the Religious Ed Office (773) 685-3785 for further information.
