2 Page Two March 10, 2013 SPIRITUAL REFLECTION Reflecting on God s Word IV NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU POJEDNAJCIE SIĘ Z BOGIEM When Israel packed its few bags and went rushing out of Egypt, God s chosen people began a journey into being a new creation, from being a nation of slaves to being a nation of free men and women, a people under the heel of Egypt to one joined to God by the covenant, a community that ate manna (which literally means What is it? ) to one that ate the produce of the promised land. This journey took forty years and it wasn t easy. When the prodigal son finally came to his senses and realized he would be better off back home as a hired worker than stealing slop from the pigs, he began a journey from being lost to being found, from being dead to being alive. This journey did not take forty years, but how do you measure in clock time a journey that transforms the heart? This journey wasn t easy either. The path to being a new creation can take forty years, forty days, forty minutes, or forty seconds. Sometimes it involves an outer journey; it is always an inner one. It is difficult dying to self always is. What matters is that we make it. Because the end result is the radiance of a people, or a son or daughter, who has finally arrived where they belong, at a party where the Father has an arm around them and the older brother who brought this about through his saving death is standing at the Father s side, with the Spirit hovering above them all. All rights reserved. Znajdujemy się już w połowie Wielkiego Postu. Kościół pragnie zgromadzić nas wokół Chrystusa Zmartwychwstałego. Dlatego szczególnie w tym czasie trzeba nam uświadomić sobie to, że wszyscy jesteśmy grzeszni i dlatego On umiera za nas na krzyżu. Musimy także uświadomić sobie to, że spoczywa na nas wielki obowiązek nawracania się i pojednania z Bogiem i z bliżnimi. Konieczność tę podkreślają dzisiejsze czytania liturgiczne a szczególnie Ewangelia. Święty Paweł mówi nam w drugim czytaniu: On dla nas grzechem uczynił Tego, który nie znał grzechu, abyśmy się stali w Nim sprawiedliwością Bożą (2 Kor. 5,21). Ewangelia o synu marnotrawnym - jakich jest bardzo wiele na świecie - jest najbardziej popularnym opowiadaniem ewangelicznym. Jest to radosna i pocieszająca nowina o nadziei, opowieść o pokutującym grzeszniku, jest to orędzie o miłości bez miary. Miłoserdziu Bożemu poświęcił swoją encyklikę Ojciec święty Jan - Paweł II. Rozpoczyna się ona od słów zaczerpniętych z Listu św. Pawła do Efezjan 2, 4 Bóg bogaty w miłoserdzie. Ojciec święty przypomni także, że głęboka wiara w Miłosierdzie Boże daje człowiekowi ciągłe, niegasnące nastawienie do nawrócenia, do ciągłej przemiany swojego życia, do bardzo jednoznacznej odpowiedzi na działanie Bożej Łaski. Sprawiedliwi są jakby stałymi domownikami Boga, a grzesznik powracający przynosi radość swoim powrotem. Chrystus Pan mówi nam o tym bardzo wyrażnie: Powiadam wam: Tak samo w niebie większa będzie radość z jednego grzesznika, który się nawraca, niż z dziewięćdziesięciu sprawiedliwych, którzy nie potrzebują nawrócenia (Łk. 15,7). Dla wyjaśnienia tek wielkiej prawdy opowiedział Chrystus przypowieść o miłosiernym Ojcu i synu marnotrawnym. Nie jest to żadna bajka, ale rzeczywista prawda przybrana w szatę przypowieści. Mówi nam ona, że człowiek jest często bardzo zły, a Bóg jest zawsze nieskończenie dobry i bardzo łatwo może się człowiek z Nim pojednać! Wystarczy tylko bardzo szczerze powiedzieć: Ojcze zgrzeszyłem.... i wszystko zostaje zapomniane. Trzeba jednak umieć i chcieć wypowiedzieć takie słowa! Taki właśnie cel ma Wielki Post i Sakrament Pojednania i Przebaczenia. Dlatego gorąco wzywamy i zachęcamy każdego słowami: Pojednajcie się z Bogiem. ks. Idzi

I would like to recognize the people who helped make this ceremony and the following reception a success. I want to express a special Thank You: To Bishop Andrew Wypych for making it a wonderful day of spiritual remembrance for the students and their families. To Father Idzi, the rectory staff, and the Religious Education teachers for all your help during the preparation and the reception of the sacrament. To Anna Ewko, our organist and the choir director, who not only helped prepare the Mass but also worked with the St. Priscilla choir to prepare special music for our celebration. To the ladies of the Catholic Women s Club who helped with the reception. To the students and their parents for all their work during the preparation and reception of the sacrament. John in your prayers on the seventh anniversary of his death. He is remembered and missed. May He rest in peace! PRAYER FOR FR. JOHN Lord God, You chose our brother John to serve Your people as a priest and to share the joys and burdens of their lives. Look with mercy on him and give him the reward of his labors, the fullness of life promised to those who preach Your Holy Gospel. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen. Our Father Hail Mary Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all our faithful departed, through the mercy of Christ, rest in peace.
