(773) Jubilee Year of Mercy Mary, whom Catholic tradition names Mother of Mercy, at Cana intercedes with her Son to show mercy toward the bridal couple: Son, they have no wine. But he does more! Jesus transformation of water into wine is a sign (John s term for miracle ) that God s marriage with the whole human race has begun in Jesus person and ministry, a marriage that will be consummated on the cross: It is inished we are saved! But before Jesus acts, Mary instructs the servers to prepare the way for Jesus miracle of mercy: Do whatever he tells you. During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Mother Church, like Mother Mary, instructs us to share the Spirit s manifold gifts some of which Paul lists in today s second reading in generous service to the human family. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself Never to be silent, Never to be passive, Never to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, And never to stop defending life Until all my brothers and sisters are protected, And our nation once again becomes A nation with liberty and justice Not just for some, but for all, Through Christ our Lord. 3 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three Prayer for a Priest O Jesus, our great High Priest, Hear our humble prayers on behalf of your priest, Father Waclaw Lech. Give him a deep faith, a bright and irm hope and a burning love which will ever increase in the course of his priestly life. In his loneliness, comfort him. In his sorrows, strengthen him. In his frustrations, point out to him that it is through suffering that the soul is puri ied, and show him that he is needed by the Church, he is needed by souls, he is needed for the work of redemption. O loving Mother Mary, Mother of Priests, take to your heart your son who is close to you because of his priestly ordination, and because of the power which he has received to carry on the work of Christ in a world which needs him so much. Be his comfort, be his joy, be his strength Amen. Fr. Lech, Wishing you a birthday filled with God s blessings, Thanking God for the gift of your faith-filled life, and Praying that the Holy Spirit will strengthen you as you serve the Church. This year, the theme of the Appeal is The Hand of God s Mercy. We have all received God s mercy. By inancially supporting the ministries and services funded by the ACA, we help to extend God s mercy to many, many others. As you review the mailing from Archbishop Cupich, please note the ministries and services funded by the Appeal, including the ones that directly support the work of our parish. 5 Jubiluesz Miłosierdzia szansą dla świata i dla Kościoła Papież Franciszek zapowiadając ogłoszenie Nadzwyczajnego Jubileuszu Miłosierdzia trochę nas zaskoczył. Jubileusze w Kościele zwykle wiążą się z okrągłymi datami. Ostatni wielki jubileusz przeżywaliśmy w 2000 roku. Nie spodziewano się, że przed rokiem 2025 taki jubileusz zostanie ogłoszony. Papież Franciszek, dostrzegając ogrom bólu ludzkości, spowodowanego nie tylko biedą i wojnami, ale odejściem od Boga, od Kościoła, od moralności skorzystał ze swojej władzy kluczy, którą posiada jako papież, by ogłosić Nadzwyczajny Rok Miłosierdzia. Uczynił to bullą Misericordiae vultus z dnia 11 kwietnia 2015 roku. Ten niezwykły rok, rozpoczęty 8 grudnia jest szansą dla świata, dla Kościoła, dla nas, którzyśmy opuścili Ojczyznę, by tutaj w U.S.A. znaleźć szansę lepszego rozwoju. Nie wszystkim się to udało. Obserwujemy zagubienie się wielu naszych rodaków. To zagubienie widoczne jest gołym okiem na wielu ulicach naszego miasta, także w dzielnicach, które jeszcze niedawno uważaliśmy za typowo polskie. To zagubienie dotyka wielu młodych ludzi, zniewolonych przez narkotyki i internet, a także tych, którzy przestali wierzyć w skuteczną moc sakramentów świetych, w których Pan Jezus rozlewa swoje miłosierdzie. Jubileusz jest zatem szansą dla kochających Chrystusa, by pokochali Go jeszcze goręcej, dla tych, którzy odeszli od Kościoła i praktyk religijnych, aby wrócili do bram Kościoła. Jest szansą dla wielu osób żyjących w konkubinacie, by wobec Chrystusa i wspólnoty Kościoła wyznali sobie wzajemną miłość. Bóg w roku jubileuszowym pragnie ob iciej rozlewać swoja łaskę w odniesieniu do istot rozumnych, do człowieka. Do człowieka żyjącego w przyjźani z Nim i do człowieka żyjącego na manowcach, który się od Boga z różnych przyczyn oddalił. Równocześnie tego miłosierdzia potrzebuje świat istot nierozumnych. Tego miłosierdzia oczekuje świat przyrody, środowisko naturalne, które jest zagrożone. Potrzebuje ono miłosierdzia ze strony człowieka, zwłaszcza ludzi odpowiedzialnych za losy ludzkości i Ziemi, jako planety. Kościół w Roku Jubileuszowym szeroko otwiera drzwi miłosierdzia. Każdy ma szanse przejść przez te jubileuszowe drzwi, począwszy od drzwi w czterech bazylikach papieskich w Rzymie, poprzez wyznaczone jubileuszowe drzwi w całym świecie. Zostały one otwarte w około 10 tysiącach kościołów świata, także szeroko w naszej Archidiecezji Chicagowskiej. Są wśród nich drzwi świete w kościołach związanych z duszpasterstwem w języku polskim w bazylice Świętego Jacka, w kościele Świetego Stanisława Kostki, w kościele ojców cystersów w Willow Springs, na południu. Warto zainteresować się, gdzie w pobliżu naszego miejsca zamieszkania jest kościół jubileuszowy, w którym są święte drzwi, bo przejście przez takie drzwi jest jednym z warunków uzyskania odpustu jubileuszowego. Przed nami rok łaski, rok, w którym Miłosierdzie Boże będzie spływało szerokim strumieniem. Nie zmarnujmy takiej okazji. Ks. Adam Piasecki, CR
