(773) Reflecting on God s Word Of all the events and circumstances that draw people together, it would seem that marriage is the most universal and obvious manifestation of that longing to be one. Though some may sacri ice marriage for what they deem to be a greater good or need, and others may never ind their heart s way to that dream, all of us long to be touched by the magic of committed love. There is something woven into the warp and woof of our lives that passionately searches for it. More than anything, it is the ideal of marital love that reveals what we are meant to be all of life and love so united to one another that there is nothing to divide, since there is no longer anything but pure oneness. Then we are no longer two simply because we are one, one lesh. That is what makes divorce such a sadness, such a personal and even communal tragedy that it shatters the vision of what we are meant to be. That is also why it causes such pain, such a wrenching; for if marriage fails, might not then also God s dream of who we shall be? That seems to be too unbearable even to dare consider. Into such fragile human becoming, then, comes the Lord Jesus, among the married and the divorced, among the sad and the joyful, among the lost and the hopeful, into what we are no matter what we are. He is the most profound and transforming revelation of that unity to which we are called simply because he unites and embodies both the human and the divine in such a way that it can never again be alienated. Monday, October 12th (Columbus Day) will be a historic day in the City of Chicago as we will welcome the body of St. Maria Goretti to St. John Cantius Church. Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three The 11-year-old Maria Goretti died July 6, 1902, after being stabbed 14 times in an attempted rape. Her last words on her deathbed were of mercy towards her 20-year-old attacker: I forgive Alessandro Serenelli and I want him with me in heaven forever. The unrepentant Serenelli famously reported receiving an apparition of his victim within his prison cell, some 6 years into his 30-year sentence. That occasion began his dramatic transformation from a violent and ruthless brute to that of a gentle and renewed soul intent on spreading devotion to God and his saintly victim. In his words, Maria s forgiveness saved me. St. John Cantius Church in Chicago s River West neighborhood will be the irst location in Illinois and the only location within the city to host the remains of this immensely popular saint. The glass-sided casket with her skeletal remains encased in wax will be on display for a full 24 hours from 6 a.m. on Monday to 6 a.m. on Tuesday. OUR LADY OF FATIMA DEVOTIONS On Saturday, October 10, at 7:00 PM, in our Church, the Our Lady of Fatima devotions will take place. The program is as follows: Mass, Rosary, and a candle procession with Our Lady of Fatima statue. Everyone is invited to join us in prayer. Głównym wątkiem wystawy są polskie dążenia wolnościowe, znajdujące wyraz w walce zbrojnej i aktywności politycznej. Sugestywne fotogra ie przedstawiają polskich żołnierzy na różnych frontach II wojny światowej oraz fenomen Polskiego Państwa Podziemnego w okupowanym kraju. Opowiadają o oporze społecznym i działalności opozycji demokratycznej w PRL, której zwieńczeniem było powstanie masowego ruchu Solidarności i obalenie komunistycznej dyktatury w 1989 r.
