3 Fourth Sunday of Lent Page Three SPIRITUAL REFLECTION Jubilee of Mercy March 6 Fourth Sunday of Lent On Laetare Sunday, we rejoice as Luke s Jesus proclaims that God is boundlessly merciful. The parable s prodigal son returns home, not authentically repentant but desperate, having squandered on prostitutes (or so his older brother claims) the inheritance wrongly demanded while his father still lived. This selfish son is only spared ritual shaming when the father shames himself, running to embrace him, interrupting his prepared act of contrition. By doing so he challenges confessors, and all of us, to be signs, says Pope Francis, of the primacy of mercy always, everywhere, and in every situation, no matter what. Avoid the harshness of the elder son, Francis warns, who stands outside, incapable of rejoicing, his judgment severe, unjust, and meaningless in light of the father s boundless mercy (Misericordiae Vultus, 17). If John s Gospel is proclaimed, the religiously observant people there likewise serve to warn against harshly judging others, for the physical blindness of the man they expel from the synagogue is healed, while their own blindness of heart remains. -Peter Scagnelli, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. IV NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU POJEDNAJCIE SIĘ Z BOGIEM Znajdujemy się już w połowie Wielkiego Postu. Kościół pragnie zgromadzić nas wokół Chrystusa Zmartwychwstałego. Dlatego szczególnie w tym czasie trzeba nam uświadomić sobie to, że wszyscy jesteśmy grzeszni i dlatego On umiera za nas na krzyżu. Musimy także uświadomić sobie to, że spoczywa na nas wielki obowiązek nawracania się i pojednania z Bogiem i z bliżnimi. Konieczność tę podkreślają dzisiejsze czytania liturgiczne a szczególnie Ewangelia. Święty Paweł mówi nam w drugim czytaniu: On dla nas grzechem uczynił Tego, który nie znał grzechu, abyśmy się stali w Nim sprawiedliwością Bożą (2 Kor. 5,21). Ewangelia o synu marnotrawnym - jakich jest bardzo wiele na świecie - jest najbardziej popularnym opowiadaniem ewangelicznym. Jest to radosna i pocieszająca nowina o nadziei, opowieść o pokutującym grzeszniku, jest to orędzie o miłości bez miary. Miłoserdziu Bożemu poświęcił swoją encyklikę Ojciec święty Jan - Paweł II. Rozpoczyna się ona od słów zaczerpniętych z Listu św. Pawła do Efezjan 2, 4 Bóg bogaty w miłoserdzie. Ojciec święty przypomni także, że głęboka wiara w Miłosierdzie Boże daje człowiekowi ciągłe, niegasnące nastawienie do nawrócenia, do ciągłej przemiany swojego życia, do bardzo jednoznacznej odpowiedzi na działanie Bożej Łaski. Sprawiedliwi są jakby stałymi domownikami Boga, a grzesznik powracający przynosi radość swoim powrotem. Chrystus Pan mówi nam o tym bardzo wyrażnie: Powiadam wam: Tak samo w niebie większa będzie radość z jednego grzesznika, który się nawraca, niż z dziewięćdziesięciu sprawiedliwych, którzy nie potrzebują nawrócenia (Łk. 15,7). Dla wyjaśnienia tek wielkiej prawdy opowiedział Chrystus przypowieść o miłosiernym Ojcu i synu marnotrawnym. Nie jest to żadna bajka, ale rzeczywista prawda przybrana w szatę przypowieści. Mówi nam ona, że człowiek jest często bardzo zły, a Bóg jest zawsze nieskończenie dobry i bardzo łatwo może się człowiek z Nim pojednać! Wystarczy tylko bardzo szczerze powiedzieć: Ojcze zgrzeszyłem.... i wszystko zostaje zapomniane. Trzeba jednak umieć i chcieć wypowiedzieć takie słowa! Taki właśnie cel ma Wielki Post i Sakrament Pojednania i Przebaczenia. Dlatego gorąco wzywamy i zachęcamy każdego słowami: Pojednajcie się z Bogiem. - ks. Idzi Stacherczak -

Thomas will speak at all Masses in preparation for the Lenten Mission. Dore has conducted numerous programs about Stewardship throughout the Chicago Area and beyond, focusing primarily on the relationship between the Stewardship Way of Life and our journey toward greater intimacy with God. Fr. Dore was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Chicago in He has served as associate pastor at St. Priscilla, Chicago and St. Hubert, Hoffman Estates, and pastor at Our Lady of Ransom, Niles and St. Giles, Oak Park. Over the years, he has held various positions in church organizations including: Liturgy Training Publications, Office for Youth Ministry and Catechesis, Presbyteral Council, Catholic Cursillo Movement, Amate House, the Archdiocesan Board of Consultors, and National Federation of Priests Councils. The three areas Fr. Dore will focus on during the Mission will be: 1. As people of faith who live in a culture of instant communication and instant gratification we are challenged every day to search out the God in whose image we are made and who calls us by name. 2. Fully aware of the human condition, God the Father sends his Son, Jesus, to be our guide in our search. 3. Jesus fulfills the mission given to Him by His Father by setting a clear path for finding the God we long for and who longs for us.

5 Fourth Sunday of Lent Page Five We would like to sincerely thank Mr. & Mrs. Henry and Barbara Majcher, and their son, Daniel, for their very generous donation of a brand new altar gong. The gong is typically used during Mass, at the point of Consecration, when the server rings the bell or gong as the priest shows the host and then the chalice. The ringing of the bells emphasizes the importance of this moment during the Consecration. We are grateful for this donation and hope it will deepen our reverance to the Holy Eucharist.
