3 Third Sunday of Lent Page Three SPIRITUAL REFLECTION Jubilee of Mercy February 28 Third Sunday of Lent Pope Francis wants Twenty-four Hours for the Lord, around-the-clock availability of the sacrament of reconciliation, implemented worldwide this Friday and Saturday. Celebrated with his oft-recommended tenderness, the sacrament is a source of true interior peace, says Francis, enabling people to touch the grandeur of God s mercy with their own hands (Misericordiae Vultus, 17). In Luke s Gospel, Jesus warns us against judging others. Focus instead, Jesus says, on deepening or restoring our own relationship with God, for during this Lenten springtime that Master Gardener can use even life s manure (the parable s fertilizer ) to coax fresh fruit from a tree that seems hopelessly barren us! Parishes preparing catechumens may choose John s Gospel, which likewise cautions against judging. Imagine what the Samaritan woman s lifelong neighbors thought of her multiple relationships. But by discovering Jesus, then sharing her good news and Jesus with those very neighbors, she whom they had probably judged quite sinful became instead their evangelist and missionary of mercy. -Peter Scagnelli, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. III NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU BLISKO JEST KRÓLESTWO BOŻE Swoją publiczną działalnością i nauczaniem Jezus zapisał pierwszą stronicę naszej historii nowej ery. Pierwsze zdanie tej historii brzmi: Czas się wypełnił i bliskie jest Królestwo Boże. Nawracajcie się i wierzcie w Ewangelię (Mk. 1,15). Wezwanie do nawrócenia jest najczęstszym wezwaniem zawartym w Ewangelii. To samo wezwanie zawiera również dzisiejsza Ewangelia. Blisko jest Królestwo Boże. Zarówno dwa tysiące lat temu jak i dzisiaj czas należy do Boga. Nowa Boża Epoka domaga się nowych ludzi. Święty Paweł napisał, że trzeba porzucić w nas dawnego człowieka i przyoblec nowego, stworzonego według Boga. Jeśli się nie nawrócicie, wszyscy podobnie zginiecie (Łk. 13,3) - ostrzega Jezus Żydów. Ludzie tamtych czasów sądzili, że ci, których dotykały wielkie nieszczęścia, zawsze byli wielkimi grzesznikami. Gwałtowana i niespodziewana śmierć, ciężka choroba, utrata majątku, niepowodzenie nieszczęścia te według nich były zawsze karą za grzechy. Ale i my musimy niejednokrotnie przyznać, że myślenie nasze jest i dziś bardzo podobne do tamtego. Nieszczęśliwi ludzie wcale nie muszą być największymi grzesznikami. Ale na dobrą sprawę sprawiedliwych nie ma wcale. Wszyscy jesteśmy grzesznikami, wszyscy cierpimy i wszyscy musimy się nawracać. Za zło za które zwykle sami ponosimy winę bezmyślnie i niesprawiedliwie oskarżamy Boga. Bóg nie stworzył świata pełnego zła i niesprawiedliwości. Pismo święte powiada nam, że wszystko, co Bóg uczynił było bardzo dobre Każdy z nas musi się nawracać każdego dnia. Trzeba zmieniać całe swoje życie. Zawsze jesteśmy wystarczająco źli, a nigdy nie jesteśmy za bardzo dobrzy! Dlatego właśnie tak bardzo często Chrystus powtarza: Nawracajcie się. Tej pracy wystarczy nam na całe życie. Musimy wciąż stawiać sobie pytanie: Czy nasze życie jest po Bożej myśli? Gdyby Chrystus Pan postawił nam podobne pytanie jaką dalibyśmy odpowiedź? Niech więc każdy z nas odpowie sobie sam na to pytanie! - ks. Idzi Stacherczak -

(Saturday 4:00 pm, Sunday 8:30 am & 12:15 pm) Monday, March 7 th 8:00 am- Mass with Homily 7:00 pm- Mass with Homily Tuesday, March 8 th 8:00 am- Mass with Homily 6:00 pm- Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament 7:00 pm- Mass with Homily Wednesday, March 9 th 8:00 am- Mass with Homily 6:00-7:00 pm - opportunity for individual Reconciliation 7:00 pm- Concluding Mass with Homily Fr. Dore has conducted numerous programs about Stewardship throughout the Chicago Area and beyond, focusing primarily on the relationship between the Stewardship Way of Life and our journey toward greater intimacy with God. Fr. Dore was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Chicago in He has served as associate pastor at St. Priscilla, Chicago and St. Hubert, Hoffman Estates, and pastor at Our Lady of Ransom, Niles and St. Giles, Oak Park. Over the years, he has held various positions in church organizations including: Liturgy Training Publications, Office for Youth Ministry and Catechesis, Presbyteral Council, Catholic Cursillo Movement, Amate House, the Archdiocesan Board of Consultors, and National Federation of Priests Councils. The three areas Fr. Dore will focus on during the Mission will be: 1. As people of faith who live in a culture of instant communication and instant gratification we are challenged every day to search out the God in whose image we are made and who calls us by name. 2. Fully aware of the human condition, God the Father sends his Son, Jesus, to be our guide in our search. 3. Jesus fulfills the mission given to Him by His Father by setting a clear path for finding the God we long for and who longs for us. Throughout the entire Lenten season, we will be praying the STATIONS OF THE CROSS every Friday. The Stations of the Cross in English will be held at 6:00 PM, whereas the Stations of the Cross in Polish will be held at 7:00 PM.. We encourage all parishioners to attend these meditative prayers focusing on the suffering and passion of Christ. 6 Page Six February 28, 2016 Support the Church in Central & Eastern Europe Weekend of March 6, 2016 For many in the Church in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as parts of Asia, the aftermath of 70 years of Soviet rule is still felt in the form of poverty, infrequent pastoral care, and lack of buildings where the faithful can worship and cultivate their faith. Your support is needed to strengthen the Church in this region through grants that fund projects that promote ministries for children and families, create affordable housing, and provide a cultural and spiritual education. Pope Francis has indicated the Fourth Sunday of Lent as a special moment of prayer and celebration of the Sacrament of Penance. In keeping with the Jubilee theme, the Archdiocese of Chicago will observe this time as the Days of Mercy and Forgiveness, on Friday and Saturday, March 4 and 5, 2016, to express our communion with the universal Church. From noon on Friday, March 4, to noon on March 5, the Sacrament of Penance will be celebrated at numerous locations for 24 hours.
