Polish Baptisms will be held on the first and third Sundays of the month at 1:30 PM. Attendance at Baptismal Preparation class is mandatory. Register by calling the Rectory. 3 Second Sunday of Advent Page Three PUT ON JOY Today, Baruch speaks of the splendor that lies ahead for the city of Jerusalem and for all of us, regardless of where home is for us. Throw off strife, he tells us, and put on joy. Like a favorite old sweatshirt, joy fits, and how warm it keeps us, even when the winds blow cold. Paul knows of this joy as he pens his letter to the Philippians, praying that they may grow in their ability to discern what is righteous and good. And Luke speaks to us of John, who was foretold by Isaiah and who sings a similar song Prepare the way of the Lord, for salvation is at hand. A man ahead of his time, Baruch spent his days joyfully awaiting a distant glory. On this Second Sunday of Advent, Paul and John know that this glory is upon us. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co ~~~~ Jubilee Year of Mercy December 6, 2015 Second Sunday of Advent This Tuesday, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Pope Francis will open the Holy Door in Saint Peter s Basilica, symbolically opening the Jubilee Year of Mercy. In today s scriptures, Baruch confidently anticipates God s healing of the brokenness of humanity, and Paul sees God bringing our discernment, knowledge, and love to fulfillment. Our experience of life and of ourselves can make such prophecies seem wildly optimistic, even hopelessly naïve. Pope Francis challenges us to live this Jubilee Year as a graced time, when God s mercy reawakens our enthusiasm to live our baptismal call as gospel people, our hope renewed and ourselves recommitted to selfless charity. Notice that in Luke s Gospel today, God bypasses the religious elite and politically powerful to speak to a humble believer in the barren desert the saving word that will transform history. ADWENT - CZASEM CZUWANIA Dziś w drugą niedzielę Adwentu staje przed nami św. Jan Chrzciciel jako Prorok, który obchodził całą okolicę Jordanu i głosił chrzest nawrócenia dla odpuszczenia grzechów (Łk. 3,3). Mówiąc prostszym językiem, Jan Chrzciciel nawoływał ludzi do zmiany życia, pragnął ich należycie przygotować na przyście Chrystusa. Otworzyć się na Chrystusa, to nie tylko poznać Chrystusa, ale to znaczy także wejść na drogę pokuty. W czasie Adwentowym mamy nie tylko obowiązek wejść na drogę pokuty, ale utwierdzić się w przekonaniu, że jest nam ona nieodzownie potrzebna. Nie jest łatwo być dobrym zawsze i we wszystkich okolicznościach życia. Być dobrym dla każdego, a nie tylko dla tych, którzy są mili wobec nas. Być dobrym, gdy jesteśmy zmęczeni, gdy dręczy nas choroba, gdy niesłusznie cierpimy. Napewno nie jest to proste i łatwe. Wspomnijmy chociaż robione z okazji spowiedzi nasze postanowienia poprawy. Ile z nich zostało zrealizowanych? Często brak poprawy doprowadza nas do zaniechania spowiedzi, gdyż twierdzimy mówiąc: że i tak nie jestem lepszy. Święty Paweł Apostoł w dzisiejszym czytaniu przypomina nam ważną prawdę: Mam ufnośc, że Ten, który zapoczątkował w nas dobre dzieło dokończy je do dnia Jezusa Chrystusa. A więc o to, abym był dobry martwię się nie tylko ja, ale jeszcze ktoś inny. Na tym, abym był dobry zależy nie tylko mnie, ale i Bogu. Co więcej - ze słów św. Pawła wynika, że to właśnie Bóg zapoczątkował naszą poprawę i ON ją dokończy. Czy my o tym pamiętamy? Może szereg niepowodzeń w naszym życiu religijnym pochodzi właśnie stąd, że za bardzo chcemy robić wsysztko sami. Upieramy się i nie chcemy pozwolić Bogu na działanie w nas. Dlatego Bóg zostawia nas samych sobie i czeka, aż się przekonamy, że zadanie jest ponad nasze siły. Zamiast mówić Bogu: poprawię sie z tego, czy tamtego - powiedzmy przy adwentowej spowiedzi: Ojcze, proszę Cię o pomoc w poprawie. Wiem, że sam nie dam rady - ale jeżeli Ty mi pomożesz - potrafię! Zobaczymy wówczas, że owoce takiego postanowienia będą znacznie piękniejsze. W czasie przygotowującym nas na przyjście Pana, trzeba drogi swego życia wyprostować i uświadomić sobie, że muszą one zaprowadzić nas do Boga. W przeciwnym razie zaprowadzą nas albo na brzeg przepaści, albo w samą przepaśc. A przecież chyba tak bardzo pragnęlibyśmy być blisko Boga, tak bardzo pragnęlibyśmy powiedzieć Mu wszystko o sobie, z Nim się zjednoczyć i żyć pełnią życia. Bezpieczna droga wiodąca do Boga - to droga Bożych Przykazań. Niech więc one staną się prawdziwym drogowskazem naszego życia. Ks.
