Page Two September 28, 2014 Reflecting on God s Word In The Secret Life of Bees, August, an older black woman, is talking about the problem with people to Lily, a younger white woman who has run away from an abusive father. Lily has said that people don t really know what matters. But August says the deeper problem is that people do know what matters, but don t choose it. God tells Ezekiel that virtue s proof is in choosing to do the right thing. What you choose to do matters. So be careful not to go off the right path at the end of your days. On the other hand, you might be off the right path for years, but end up hopping back on at the very end, and you will have life. It doesn t sound very fair; nevertheless, it s where you are when the end comes that counts. And you don t know when the end will come. Jesus confronts the religious leaders with a parable. A father asks his two sons to do some work in the vineyard. One talks a good game but never makes it into the field; the other refuses outright, but then goes and does what his father asked. In telling this parable, Jesus compares these leaders unfavorably to the tax collectors and prostitutes. The elders must have been shocked. Have in you that same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus, writes Paul to his beloved Philippians. The attitude he urged on them was giving oneself for the sake of others even unto death. (Mt. 21, 28-31) Ludzi żyjących na świecie można podzielić na trzy grupy. Do pierwszej należą ci, którzy dużo mówią a nic nie robią. Do drugiej ci, którzy nic nie mówią a za to wiele robią. Do trzeciej grupy należa ci, którzy i dużo mówią i dużo czynią. Są to ludzie, których mowa zgadza się z ich czynami. Do której z tych trzech grup ty dziś należysz? Ewangelia dzisiejszej niedzieli mówi nam o dwóch synach. Jeden z nich dużo mówił, ale nic nie czynił. Obiecał ojcu, że pójdzie pracować, ale nie poszedł. W jego życiu mowa nie pokrywała się z czynami. Drugi syn powiedział, że nie będzie pracował, ale później się jednak opamiętał i poszedł do pracy. Przemyślał swoje powiedzenie, i zmienił zdanie. Możemy więc wyciągnąć z tego wniosek taki, że trzeba nieraz długo myśleć, zanim podejmie się jakąś decyzję. Każda decyzja jest ważna, jeśli jest roztropna i przemyślana. Pan Jezus zachęca nas do bardzo ostrożnego i przemyślanego wypowiadania swoich myśli. Mówi On: Niech wasza mowa będzie tak, tak, nie, nie. A co ponad to jest, od Złego pochodzi (Mt. 5, 37). Wielomóstwo wielu ludziom zaszkodziło, stało się przyczyną gniewów, nieporozumień i kłótni. Dlatego słusznie twierdzi nasze ludowe przysłowie: Choć pożyteczną jest mowa, powstrzymaj ust swych ochotę, srebrnymi bowiem są słowa milczenie jest szczerozłote. Wielomóstwo zgubiło wielu ludzi. Ostrożność i oszczędność w wypowiadaniu słów była zaletą wielu świętych. Bądźmy zatem bardzo ostrożni w wypowiadaniu swoich poglądów o drugich ludziach. Nikt bowiem z nas nie siedzi w drugim człowieku i nikt nie wie, jakimi racjami ktoś się kieruje, podejmując taką czy inną decyzję. Każdy człowiek jest wielką tajemnicą i przed tą tajemnicą trzeba zawsze pochylić głowę. Tylko jeden Bóg może obiektywnie oceniać człowieka, bo tylko On wie kim naprawdę jest człowiek. PRISCILLA PARISH Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2014 June 30, 2014 marks the end of the fiscal year for the Parish, and we would like to provide Parishioners the financial report. The 2014 Fiscal Year ended without any outstanding loans or unpaid obligations and with a surplus of $129,239.00. We received a donation from the estate of Joseph S. Tiritilli Trust Fund in the amount of $50,000. The funds were deposited into St. Priscilla s Building Fund, whish is designated for future repairs and improvements in the Parish. Another Donation came from Donald and Mary Ann Patricia Smith Trust Fund totaling $145,681.33. The donation was received in July 2014, which we applied to the next fiscal year. According to the deceased s wishes, the funds were deposited into the St. Priscilla Building Fund. Please keep our generous donors in your prayers. Catholic Women s Club and the Polish Group organized very successful fundraisers. C.W.C. donated from different events like the rummage sale and Baker s Square dinner totaling $4,454. Polish Group collected $12,840.82 from the Fall Dance and the Valentine s Day Dance. The Filipino Group organized the Simbang Gabi Mass and raised $368.00 for the parish. Thank you all for your support. Annual Catholic Appeal goal for 2013 was $26,646.54. We collected $5,360.46 more, and the surplus was received in March. As noted in our weekly bulletin, we report a deficit in our budget but a surplus on the financial report. The financial report includes the rental income from the St. Priscilla School building. Our goal is to base the budget only on collections from our Parishioners, donations and fundraisers. The rental income has been helping us to pay for the increased cost of utilities, maintenance and repairs. Last year we informed Parishioners about the formation of Interfaith Coalition of all churches in Chicago against the City of Chicago. The City planned to cancel the water bills exemption for the religious institutions. After months of negotiations, the Interfaith Coalition headed by Rev. Elder Kevin Anthony Ford of the St. Paul Church God in Christ, the exemption was upheld. We would like to thank our Alderman Mr. Nicholas Spasato for all of his help and support during the negotiations with the City. This year our sponsored church St. Kevin received $7,816.55 from our monthly charing collections. As Pastor of St. Priscilla and on behalf of the staff of St. Priscilla I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to all of St. Priscilla s Parishioners for your generosity in helping fulfill the Eucharistic Mission. Annual Fall Dance The Polish community from St. Priscilla is hosting its Annual Fall Dance, which will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 7:00 PM in McGowan Hall. Music will be provided by the Gwiazda Band. The ticket price is $15. Food and drinks are not included in the price. We hope to see you all there!
