(773) Treasures From Our Tradition Some monks and nuns trace their community origins back a thousand years or so, before it became customary to reserve the Blessed Sacrament in tabernacles. In their rules of life, which evolved from the lifestyle and prayer of their predecessors, the core experience of Christ s presence is at the altar itself, and in the symbol of assembly for prayer. To this day, when the monks or nuns ile into their church in procession, they march two by two, and then bow profoundly to the altar before turning and bowing in reverence toward the brother or sister at their side. It is probably more dif icult, in practice, to revere the presence of Christ in a person who irks you by taking the car keys, shirking a work duty, or burning the toast! We can trace in these religious orders enduring customs the ancient appreciation for the altar as the center of the church building, and of the community of the faithful as the Body of Christ. Usually, a monastery today will reserve the Blessed Sacrament in some quiet corner of the monastic church, in a fairly small space, more suitable for private prayer than for the gathering of the whole community. In a cloister, the architecture may allow the public limited access to this space. Liturgical law tells us, in both monasteries and parish churches, that there is no need for more than a few hosts in the place of reservation, just enough for viaticum, the food for the journey that is the inal sacramental celebration for a dying Christian. 3 Pierwsza Komunia Święta Dzień przystąpienia dziecka do Pierwszej Komunii świętej jest bardzo ważnym momentem w jego życiu, gdyż utrwala często na całe życie przyjaźń z Jezusem Eucharystycznym. Musi więc być on dobrze przygotowany i właściwie przeżyty nie tylko w Kościele, lecz także domu rodzinnym. Cała rodzina powinna świętować i radośnie towarzyszyć dziecku w tych przeżyciach. W tym ostatnim tygodniu przygotowań do pełnego udziału w Uczcie Eucharystycznej, pamiętajmy o nich w naszych modlitwach. As we welcome these special boys and girls to the Lord s table of the Eucharist, we also give thanks for their presence at our table of family and community life. By sharing their First Communion with our little loved ones, we resolve to be good role models for their young efforts to live in faith. In celebrating their deeper sacramental union with Jesus, we pray that their love for Jesus and for their family and friends will continue to grow each time they receive Holy Communion. The irst communicants invite everyone to join them for those most special liturgies, beginning at 12:00 noon on Saturday May 6th, in the Polish language and on Sunday, May 7th, at 12:30 PM in the English Language. Polish May Devotions will be held in our Church on each of the Sundays in May, beginning with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 6:30 PM. The Novena for Our Mothers The Novena for our Living and Deceased Mothers will start on Sunday, May 14th at the 12:30 PM Holy Mass. It will continue Monday thru Saturday at the 8:30 AM Holy Mass. The last day of the Mothers' Novena will be Monday, May 22nd. Our ushers will distribute the novena envelopes after all Masses today. Please take one envelope, print clearly in capital letters the name of the person for whom you wish us to pray, and place that envelope in the collection basket or drop it off at the rectory or sacristy. The Mothers' Novena of Holy Masses will be offered for all intentions received. Nowenna w Intencji Matek W niedzielę 14 maja rozpoczniemy Nowennę w Intencji Naszych Matek.
