In those days, people seldom received Holy Communion, and never from the chalice. A nun in a troubled convent, Juliana of Liège, devoted her life to stirring up love for the Eucharist, lobbying for a feast day to honor the Blessed Sacrament with Masses and processions. Juliana may have been inspired by the Ascension Day processions in nearby Bruges. Crusaders brought a treasure home to Bruges from Constantinople in 1204: a reliquary said to contain a cloth from Joseph of Arimathea with which he had helped prepare the body of Jesus for burial. The stain on the cloth was said to be the holy blood itself, and so the people of Bruges built a great basilica to house the relic. Bruges became a great center of pilgrimage because of this treasure, and the procession of the Holy Blood is still one of the greatest festivals in Belgium today. Chcemy oddać wdzięczność i cześć Panu Jezusowi ukrytemu w Najświętszym Sakramencie. Dziękujemy rodzinom, które w poprzednich latach przygotowywały ołtarze na procesję Bożego Ciała. Bardzo prosimy i będziemy wdzięczni za ponowne przygotowanie ołtarzy i zorganizowanie procesji w tym roku. Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, joined Monsignor Michael Boland, president of Catholic Charities, to bless and dedicate the new Father Augustus Tolton Peace Center, 5645 W. Corcoran Place, Chicago, on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 2 p.m. The center is a social services resource and peace hub for violence prevention and trauma therapy programs. We know that violence will not end in our society without a concerted effort to address its root causes, said Cardinal Cupich. At this center and throughout its network, Catholic Charities works to strengthen families, lift people out of poverty and help them develop life and employment skills. These ministries are our response to the Gospel call to show mercy and compassion to all we meet. Currently, more than 30,000 Austin residents are supported by Catholic Charities various services. The center will deepen and expand Catholic Charities impact in Austin with more services for youth, families and seniors with a focus on building peaceful communities. In addition to violence prevention and therapy programs, residents will benefit from dozens of additional services at the center, including financial assistance and counseling, public screening assistance, youth employment, pregnancy and parenting assistance, summer meals for children and elder care support. After the 10:30 AM Holy Mass we will have our Corpus Christi procession to four alters in our neighborhood. In this way we want to give thanks and praise Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. On this solemnity we focus our attention on the Body and Blood of Christ. We listen to the story of the renewal of the old covenant, which Moses sealed by splashing the blood of animals on the altar of sacrifice, as well as on the people. Jesus, whose blood is the blood of the new covenant, shed that precious blood on the cross, saving us from sin and promising us everlasting life. Blood is the life source that courses through our bodies. The precious blood of Christ is the life source for our spirits.
