Mr. Henryk Zygmunt Treasures From Our Tradition The Roman Canon, called Eucharistic Prayer I, is probably seldom heard in your parish. Some priests will choose it for at least one of the Masses of Christmas, or the Easter Vigil. Such sparing use of this prayer seems strange, especially since it was the only Eucharistic Prayer in the Latin Rite for many centuries, from as long ago as 500 right up to In 1965, the vernacular language was approved for the canon of the Mass. Almost immediately, some experimental texts began to surface in the Netherlands, and priests began to use new Dutch texts without permission. By 1966, Pope Paul VI had set up a committee to consider whether or not it was time to approve such experimentation and extend it to non- Dutch churches. No sooner had the committee been formed than other individuals copied the Dutch by just plunging on ahead. The Dutch bishops had approved the use of the new prayers nationwide in 1968, and Flemish bishops in Belgium quickly agreed. By then, German translations of the Dutch prayers were in wide use, and before long nearly one hundred Eucharistic Prayers, all unapproved, were in circulation in France. The Vatican heard the widespread desire for more variety in Eucharistic Prayer forms, and, with the pope s approval, the process of creating new of icial prayers Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. 3 ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY Solemnity That feast has been celebrated in the liturgy of the Eastern rites since the sixth century in Rome since the seventh century. On November 1, 1950 Pope Pius XII de ined the dogma of the Assumption. He solemnly proclaimed that the belief that the Blessed Virgin was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven at the end of her life really forms part of the deposit of faith, received from the apostles. This feast con irms us in the theological virtue of hope, whereby we seek our sancti ication and that of others in the midst of our ordinary duties. At the same time, we are encouraged to look toward our goal in heaven. On Tuesday, August 15th, is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a Holy Day of Obligation this year. Holy Masses are scheduled as follows: anticipated Mass on Monday at 7:00 PM and then 9:00 AM on Tuesday in the English language, plus 7:30 AM, 10:30 AM and 7:00 PM in the Polish language. On Tuesday, August 15th, in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary our Rectory Of ice will be closed. The Miracle of Life The human body is the most complicated and incredible machine in the world. Its bones, muscles, arteries, veins and internal organs are organized with marvelous design. Every part of the body, though each may seem to be so different from another, is made up of the same material: cells. Cells, each of which is one thousandth of a millimeter, are the structural units that form our body and everything in it. Some of these cells unite to form bones, others to form nerves, the liver, the inner layer of the stomach, the skin or the cornea of the eyeball. Each has the size and shape that exactly meet the requirement of that part of the body. How and when did cells, which have such varied functions, come into being? All the approximately 100 trillion cells that make up your body today came from the division of one single cell. That single cell which had the same structure as all the cells in your body now, came from the union of your mother s egg cell and your father s sperm cell. Yes, life begins at conception! Z wolna wyłania się prawda, że Matka Najświętsza ze swą niepokalaną duszą i przeczystym ciałem została wzięta do nieba za sprawą szczególnego związku z Synem, Zbawicielem świata. 1 listopada 1950 r. papież Pius XII uroczyście ogłosił dogmat, że Najświętsza Maryja Panna została wzięta do nieba z duszą i ciałem. Został on zawarty w Konstytucji apostolskiej Muni icentissimus Deus. Dość często spotyka się również nazwę ludową tej uroczystości Matki Bożej Zielnej nawiązującą do zwyczaju święcenia ziół, a często dożynkowych snopów. We wtorek, 15 sierpnia przypada Uroczystość Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny. Pomimo, że jest to dzień pracy, według prawa kościelnego jest to święto obowiązkowe dla wszystkich katolików. Porządek Mszy św. w tym dniu jest następujący: Msze św. w języku angielskim będą odprawione w poniedziałek o godz. 7:00 PM oraz we wtorek o godz. 9:00 rano; Msze św. w jęz. polskim będą odprawione o godz. 7:30 i 10:30 rano oraz o godz. 7:00 wieczorem. W czasie Mszy św. będzie poświęcenie kwiatów, owoców i ziół. W tym dniu nasza kancelaria para ialna będzie zamknieta.
