Juliana was a nun in Belgium in the thirteenth century. She served in a hospital for lepers. She became convinced through her prayer that the liturgical year was incomplete because it had no feast for the Eucharist. Her efforts were not welcome, and a supervising priest sought to punish her for promoting a feast that nobody wanted. He even had her accused of inancial mismanagement and banished her from her convent. Shortly after she was exiled, the bishop approved the feast. It quickly spread through Europe. In those days, people very seldom received Holy Communion, and so the processions through the streets with the eucharistic bread not only led to an awareness of Christ s hunger to be with us, but prepared the way for a deeper desire to receive Christ s Body and Blood in more frequent Communion. The feast grew rapidly, but Juliana disappeared into poverty and a hidden life. She ended her days as an anchoress, a woman living in seclusion in a room attached to a parish church. Imagine her delight at seeing us gathered at the table of the Lord on this day, aware of Christ s presence in our midst, sharing fully in Christ s Body and Blood. Our celebration today invests her struggle and sorrows with dignity and meaning. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Cud w Sokółce Cud eucharystyczny wydarzył się w 2008 r. W czasie porannej Mszy 12 października kapłanowi rozdzielającemu Komunię Świętą upadł na stopień ołtarza konsekrowany komunikant. Ksiądz przeniósł hostię do naczynia z wodą (vasculum), by mogła się rozpuścić. Początkowo zaglądałam codziennie, a potem zapomniałam. Kiedy 19 października, w niedzielę misyjną, otworzyłam sejf, by sięgnąć po jakąś potrzebną rzecz, poczułam zapach kwaszonego chleba. Stanisław Gniedziejko polecił schować komunikant w sej ie. Po 10 dniach naczynie z komunikantem przeniesiono do kaplicy w sąsiadującej z kościołem plebanii. Maria Sobaniec-Łotowska i prof. The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ Page Three Miracle in Sokolka A Eucharistic miracle occurred on October 12, 2008 at the 8:30 AM Holy Mass in the church of St. Anthony in Sokolka, Poland. During Holy Mass, a consecrated host fell from the hands of one of the priests during Holy Communion. The priest, according to liturgical norms, picked up and moved the host into a container of water, where priests may wash their ingers after distributing Communion. The host may take several days to dissolve in the water, so Sister Julia Dubowka, the sacristan, moved the container of water into the safe in the sacristy. Sister Julia Dubowska stated, At irst, I checked everyday, but then I forgot. When I opened the safe on Sunday, October 19th to grab something, I felt the scent of unleavened bread. I checked the container and saw the almost dissolved host with a bright, red stain, like a blood stain in the middle. However, the water was untainted by the color. I probably stood there for a while amazed and speechless because Fr. Filip who was also in the sacristy asked me what had happened. They immediately noti ied the metropolitan archbishop of Bialystok, Edward Ozorowski, who went to Sokolka with other diocesan of icials. The archbishop ordered that the host be protected while they waited to see what would happen. On October 29, the container with the host was transferred to the Divine Mercy Chapel in the rectory, and placed in the tabernacle. The next day, by decision of the archbishop, the stained host was taken out of the water and placed on a small corporal, which was then put back in the tabernacle. The host was kept this way for three years, until it was solemnly brought to the church on October 2, 2011. A piece of the altered host was taken and analyzed independently by two experts, Prof. Maria Sobaniec-Lotowska, MD, and Prof. Stanislaw Sulkowski, MD, in order to ensure the credibility of the results. Both are histopathologists at the Medical University of Bialystok. The studies were carried out at the university s Department of Pathomorphology. The results of both studies were in perfect agreement. They concluded that the structure of the transformed fragment of the host is identical to the myocardial (heart) tissue of a living person who is nearing death. The structure of the heart muscle ibers is deeply intertwined with that of the bread, in a way impossible to achieve with human means, according to the declaration of Prof. Maria Sobaniec-Lotowska. The studies proved that no foreign substance was added to the consecrated host; rather, part of the host took the form of heart muscle of a person near death. This kind of phenomenon is inexplicable by the natural sciences.

Theia Anastasia Ghenciu We Welcome in Our Christian Community We extend our congratulations to the new parents on this happy occasion of their child s Baptismal Celebration. THIS SACRED MEAL Today we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Each of the readings includes a blessing and a sharing of food. They remind us of the central place of meals in our lives. Each meal brings to mind other meals: the sharing of cookies and milk, pizza and beer, loaves and fishes, bread and wine. When we prepare a meal for our family, our friends, even strangers, we always put something of ourselves into the preparation and the meal itself. The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ reminds us of what God put into the preparation for this meal that we celebrate today. We share this sacred meal and are transformed as we remember the death of Jesus and the sacrifice that nurtures our faith, sustains our lives, and supports our work. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.
