Mr. Henryk Zygmunt Treasures From Our Tradition The mystery of the Ascension has to do with holding in tension a sense of God s nearness, along with the burden caused by apparent signs of absence. The risen Jesus says to Mary Magdalene, Do not cling to me, perhaps pointing out to her that his physical presence to the disciples was time bound and temporary. It was a gift for their transformation, and after forty days, he vanished from their sight and hearing, though never out of their consciousness. They do not mourn at his going this time: there is no trace of the disciples who hid in fear at his cruci ixion, no sense of the women who wept softly as they carried ointments to the tomb through the dewy morning light. Instead, the scriptural accounts show them full of joy, comforted by his promise to be with them forever, and open to the Spirit s power. They are joyful, energized, aware, and united with one another in love. They seem to grasp an awareness that if the mission to the whole world was a serious one, then the presence of the Risen Christ could not be pinned down to any one place or time, but had to be always and everywhere completely available. All peoples, all times, all cultures were opened to receive him in this moment of the Ascension. The energy of this feast is drawn not from absence, but renewed and deeper presence. Rev. Thanksgiving Banquet According to the decision of Cardinal Blase Cupich, our Carmelite Fathers officially end their management of our parish of St. Camillus in Chicago on Sunday, June 30th, Therefore, a Holy Mass and banquet reception is being organized in thanksgiving for our Carmelite Fathers for their 16 years of pastoral work in our parish of St. Camillus. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, on which we will also celebrate Father Waclaw Lech s 45th anniversary of his Priesthood. The reception will be held at 1:00 PM at the Mayfield Banquet Hall. Entry tickets will be distributed after Holy Masses in the vestibule of the church and in the rectory for $15 per ticket. In this cost there is included a full meal, glass of champagne for the toast, the sweet table, and music presented by Mrs. Miroslawa Sojka- Topor with her band. It will continue for the next 9 days, Monday thru Saturday at the 8:30 AM Holy Mass. Please take an envelope from our ushers, print clearly the name of the person for whom you wish us to pray, and place the envelope in the collection basket or drop it off at the rectory or sacristy. The Fathers' Novena of Holy Masses will be offered for all intentions received. 5 Wniebowstąpienie Pana Jezusa Uroczystość Wniebowstąpienia Pańskiego jest obchodzone na pamiątkę wydarzenia opisanego w Dziejach Apostolskich oraz Ewangelii Łukasza i Ewangelii Marka. Jezus po zmartwychwstaniu przez 40 dni przebywał wśród swoich uczniów. 40 dnia na ich oczach wzniósł się do nieba. Miało to miejsce na Górze Oliwnej. Samo określenie "Wniebowstąpienie Pańskie" pochodzi z opisu, przekazanego przez św. Łukasza w Dziejach Apostolskich: "Po tych słowach uniósł się w ich obecności w górę i obłok zabrał Go im sprzed oczu. Kiedy uporczywie wpatrywali się w Niego, jak wstępował do nieba, przystąpili do nich dwaj mężowie w białych szatach. I rzekli: «Mężowie z Galilei, dlaczego stoicie i wpatrujecie się w niebo? Ten Jezus, wzięty od was do nieba, przyjdzie tak samo, jak widzieliście Go wstępującego do nieba». Uroczystość pierwotnie była obchodzona razem ze świętem Zesłania Ducha Świętego. Dopiero w IV wieku Wniebowstąpienie Pańskie zaczęto obchodzić 40 dni po Wielkanocy jako osobne święto. Wniebowstąpienie Pańskie ma radosny charakter, jest ukoronowaniem życia ziemskiego i pamiątką triumfalnego powrotu Pana Jezusa do nieba. Kolejne dni po Wniebowstąpieniu Pańskim mają przygotować wiernych na przyjęcie Ducha Świętego. Ascension of the Lord The Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to his apostles, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God." Christ's body was glori ied at the moment of his Resurrection, as proved by the new and supernatural properties it subsequently and permanently enjoys. But during the forty days when he eats and drinks familiarly with his disciples and teaches them about the kingdom, his glory remains veiled under the appearance of ordinary humanity. The veiled character of the glory of the Risen One during this time is intimated in his mysterious words to Mary Magdalene: "I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God." This indicates a difference in manifestation between the glory of the risen Christ and that of the Christ exalted to the Father's right hand, a transition marked by the historical and transcendent event of the Ascension.
