The Louisiana Purchase gained a great treasure for our nation, the Ursuline monastery of New Orleans. Among the greatest pioneers of that city were nuns who came from France on a perilous voyage in 1727, pestered by pirates and tossed by fearsome storms. These were genteel, well-educated Ursulines, yet their first task was to roll up their sleeves and open a hospital to care for the pestilence-ridden colony. Next, they opened a school for girls and launched a plan to educate the women being shipped over from France to marry settlers. In this way, they had enormous influence in molding patterns of family and domestic life. At Christmastime in 1814, the threat of a British assault on the city was growing. On the terrifying night of January 7, 1815, the women of New Orleans gathered in the monastery chapel to pray that the city be spared from destruction in battle. The mother superior made a vow to have a Mass of Thanksgiving on that date every year should the Americans win. That night, Our Lady of Prompt Succor, to whom the nuns had great devotion, became the protector and patron of this great city. The convent in the French Quarter is the oldest standing building in the Mississippi valley, and the only surviving building of the French colonial period. The nuns relocated in 1824, but their old monastery is preserved as a museum and archives for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The school the nuns began, Ursuline Academy, is the oldest continuously operating Catholic school, and school for women, in the United States. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three Over two years ago, Cardinal Blasé Cupich launched a pastoral process for the renewal of the church in Chicago. He began a challenging reflection on the needs of the church at this point in history and into the future. So the Archdiocese of Chicago has begun a historic process of renewal and revitalization called Renew My Church. Renew my Church calls the entire archdiocese of Chicago to renew and reimagine our commitment to making disciples, building communities and inspiring all to witness our faith in our world. The process will call us to honestly assess our current and future challenges, identify strengths and opportunities to build on, and evaluate how we may need to operate differently as a faith-filled community to best bring more people into and encounter with Jesus and his church. These will be challenging discussions about how we move into the future. All the parishes in our archdiocese have been connected and organized in the form of groupings, in which they will work with neighboring parishes to cooperate, and find future opportunities of collaboration and unity. Our parish of St. Camillus in the grouping with surrounding parishes: St. Daniel, St. Jane de Chantal, and Our Lady of the Snows will work together in multiple stages, meetings and discussions to achieve these goals of Renew My Church. The pastor of each parish invites 3-5 people to be a team known as The Grouping Feedback and Discernment Team. These representatives of the parish are seen as part of the core team of collaborators and supporters to the pastor in helping him to define parish priorities, goals and the appropriate plan of implementation. The team members will include representation of parish staff, members of the parish and finance councils, full-time and part-time staff members, and other representation of the parish community. Będą to niełatwe wyzwania i diskusje jak wejść w nową przyszłość. Wszystkie parafie w naszej archidiecezji zostały połączone i zorganizowane tzw. Groupy ( Groupings ), w których będą pracować z sąsiednimi parafiami jak współdziałać, aby znaleźć przyszłe możliwości do stworzenia jedności i wspólnoty działań. Nasza parafia Św. Kamila znajduje się w Grupie z sąsiednimi parafiami: Św. Daniel, Św. Jane de Chantal i Matki Bożej Śnieżnej. Wspólnie będziemy pracować na wielu etapach, spotkniach i diskusjach, aby przygotować się do przemiań kościoła w naszym regionie. Proboszcz każdej parafii prosi i wybiera 3-5 osób by stworzyli zespół Grupowej Dorady i Rozpoznania. Ci reprezentanci parafii będą uważani jako kluczowy zespół współpracowników i pomocników dla proboszcza, służąc pomocą w określeniu parafialnych priorytetów, celów i właściwych planów do wypełnienia. Członkowie tego zespołu będą wybrani z członków zarządu parafii, członków rady parafialnej i finansowej, pracowników parafii i innych przedstawicieli współnoty parafialnej. This feast has been celebrated in the litrugy of the Eastern rites since the sixth century, and in Rome since the seventh century. On November 1, 1950 Pope Pius XII defined the dogma of the Assumption. He solemnly proclaimed that the belief that the Blessed Virgin was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven at the end of her life really forms part of the deposit of faith, received from the apostles. This feast confirms us in the theological virtue of hope, whereby we seek our sanctification and that of others in the midst of our ordinary duties.
