Page Two March 13, 2011 Spiritual Reflection THE DEVIL S TRAPS Search for pictures of the devil or Satan and you will see images of a snarling face, long gnarled horns, hooves dripping with blood, red skin, and a tail. But those who tempt us to do evil are not at all like these pictures; many of them smile sweetly and have excellent social skills. The snake in the Garden of Eden was not frightening or threatening; he just talked very persuasively, and once Adam and Eve listened to him and ate the forbidden fruit they knew their world was turned upside down. After Jesus baptism in the Jordan, the same smooth talker who brought catastrophe on Adam and Eve tried his wiles on Jesus. He tried three powerful tests. Jesus rejected them all and the Tempter left, unable to turn Jesus heart away from God. The invitation to do evil is perpetually present, so that all of us face versions of each temptation faced by Jesus. And it s never a matter of simply breaking the rules. Where the Evil One gets a real foothold is when something becomes a sinful habit, a persistent thread in our lives, especially if we fail to recognize the harm it is doing to us and others. The harsh words shouted once in anger and regretted are less damaging than a persistent habit of belittling people. Breaking one s marriage vow and being deeply repentant is not like a pattern of cheating over many years. The Church, with the wisdom of generations of experience, provides Lent, this annual season of spiritual spring cleaning. If it has been a while since you went to confession, consider it now. If you go to the sacrament and confess the same sins over and over, ask yourself why. God forgives not just once, but for always. Copyright 2010, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. POKUSY SZATANA... Odkąd człowiek żyje na ziemi, nieustannie stawia sobie pytanie: skąd się wziął świat, skąd wziął się człowiek i skąd na ziemi wzięło się zło? Biblia daje nam dziś na te pytania jednoznaczną odpowiedź: świat i człowieka stworzył Bóg, a zło pochodzi od szatana. Od momentu, w którym człowiek uległ pokusie, zaczął się dramat jego ziemskiego życia. Chciał się zrównać z Bogiem i zrównał się z Nim, ale stał się Bogiem na glinianych nogach. Bóg jednak nie odrzucił człowieka od siebie. Zaczął go ratować. I w ten sposób zaczęła się historia zbawienia człowieka. Do czego zmierzały pokusy szatana? Pierwsza pokusa miała na celu to, by Chrystus uznał wyższość materii nad duchem. Szatan chciał przekonać Chrystusa, że ważniejsza jest materia, ważniejszy jest chleb i dobra doczesne, aniżeli troska o dusze i zbawienia człowieka. Dlatego zaproponował Jezusowi: Jeśli jesteś Synem Bożym, powiedz, żeby te kamienie stały się chlebem (Mt. 4,3). Pan Jezus nie gani materii, mówi, że jest ona dobra i trzeba jej używać. Pan Bóg po to stworzył materię, aby ona służyła człowiekowi. Ale materia nigdy nie zastąpi człowiekowi nadprzyrodzonych wartości. Ona nie może być celem człowieka - ona może być co najwyżej środkiem do celu. Stąd Jezusowe powiedzenie: Nie samym chlebem żyje człowiek, lecz każdym słowem, które pochodzi z ust Bożych (Mt. 4,4). Druga pokusa, którą szatan zaatakował jest podobna do trzeciej. To pokusa panowania, wielkości i sławy. Można te dwie pokusy streścić w jednym, że szatan żądał w tych pokusach, aby Chrystus uznał go za Boga. Chrystus nie dyskutuje z szatanem na temat tych pokus, bo taka dyskusja nie doprowadziłaby do niczego. Dlatego jednym zdaniem powala przeciwnika na ziemię mówiąc: Panu Bogu swemu będziesz oddawał pokłon i Jemu samemu służył będzieśż (Mt. 4, 10). Szatan stawiając te pokusy, choć jest duchem inteligentnym, to jednak nie był pewny, czy Chrystus jest, czy nie jest Synem Bożym. Chciał więc między innymi dowodu na bóstwo Jezusa i ten dowód otrzymał. Dowiedział się więc, że Pan Jezus jest rzeczywiście Panem całego świata i tylko Jemu należy się najwyższa cześć i uznanie. Musimy także pamiętać o tym, że pokusa nigdy nie jest straszna, gdy ją przeżywamy z tą świadomością, że jest ktoś, kto nam pomaga ją przezwyciężyć. Jest Jezus Chrystus i jest Jego Najświętsza Matka, którzy zawsze stają w obronie swoich dzieci. W chwilach pokusy prośmy także o pomoc naszych świętych patronów, którzy też mieli różne pokusy, ale zawsze z nich wychodzili zwycięsko. - ks. Idzi -

It is very important to make as clear as possible that no tickets are needed to attend the beatification of John Paul II, said Monsignor Guido Marini, master of papal liturgical celebrations, according to Vatican Radio.... But officials became concerned after hearing about unauthorized offers by some tour operators, especially on the Internet, asking people to pay fees for access to the event, the Catholic News Service reported. No tickets are required for the beatification, and any papal events that do require tickets are always free, the Vatican emphasized... If you are interested in traveling to be a part of this momentous celebration, please be wary of such unauthorized offers as mentioned above. First Sunday of Lent Page Five Throughout the entire Lenten season, we will be praying the STATIONS OF THE CROSS every Friday. The Stations of the Cross in English will be held at 6:00 PM, whereas the Stations of the Cross in Polish will be held at 7:00 PM. We invite all parishioners to attend these meditative prayers focusing on the suffering and passion of Christ. Serdecznie zapraszamy wszystkich parafian do wzięcia udziału w nabożeństwach Wielkiego Postu. W każdy piątek Wielkiego Postu będzie odprawiona Droga Krzyżowa w języku polskim o godz. 7:00 wieczorem, a o godz. 6:00 po angielsku. In support of the pro-life movement, our church will be participating in The Baby Bottle Project benefitting the Women s Centers of Greater Chicagoland. This non-profit organization directly assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies by offering emotional, financial, material, and spiritual support through counseling, clothing and monetary provisions, prayer, and other aid. By God s grace, the Women s Centers have saved over 34,000 babies from abortion since opening in 1984. Please take a baby bottle home with you this weekend. Fill it with your spare change over the next few weeks of Lent. We will announce at a later date when the bottles will be collected. Centrum Kobiet (the Women s Center) jest organizacją, która pomaga kobietom w ciąży, będących w trudnej sytuacji finansowej. Centrum Kobiet s ł u ż y doradą, pomocą i modlitwą. Przeciętnie w ciągu roku, otrzymuje pomoc ponad pięć tysięcy kobiet. Pomoc ta, to niezbędne rzeczy dla młodego dziecka jak: mleko, pieluchy, krzesełka do samochodu, wózki, itp. Codziennie odprawiana jest Msza św. o godz. 12:00 w południe oraz odmawiany jest Różaniec i Koronka do Miłosierdzia Bożego w intecji wszystkich kobiet będących w ciąży.
Page Six March 13, 2011 You will not find many Catholics who could say that Lent is their favorite time of year. In fact, most American Catholics shy away from the simplicity, somber colors and reflective readings and music that we experience in our parishes during this time of year, yet this new Season of Lent is a time of hope and renewal. The readings for today may offer only a discussion on sin and temptation at first glance, through a deeper examination unpacks the compassion of a forgiving God who loves us unconditionally. It s hard not to feel hopeful about that! Throughout Lent, we are asked to open ourselves to God through practices of prayer, fasting and Almsgiving. Why not begin today by prayerfully rereading the Gospel (Mt. 4:1-11) and reflecting on its meaning in your life? Praying the Scriptures is a way to renew your faith and strengthen your relationship with God. The Gospel tells of Jesus alone praying and fasting in the desert, hungry, exhausted and being tempted by the devil. When were you at the moment of lost hope in your life and where did you find strength to resist temptation and move forward? In the last lines, we hear that Jesus finds strength and hope in a loving relationship with God. As baptized Catholics, we can also claim our place as sons and daughters of God the Father and through God s love we can overcome all of life s challenges. You are sons and daughters of God! Let someone know the joy you feel! The goal for all evangelization efforts is to strengthen our connection to God and then share it with others. Throughout the Catholics Come Home evangelization efforts, we heard stories of Catholics who had been away from the Church and one person invited them to know more about God s love. With a simple invitation like, come with me to Mass or join me in one of my Bible Study sessions, a life was changed and another person came back to the Church. Who do you know that needs a sense of hope and God s strength? Who can you invite this week?
