Page Two October 26, 2014 Reflecting on God s Word In an article on successful aging (New Theology Review, November, 2010), Dr. Lawrence M. Lenoir proposes that the art of giving and receiving love is at the heart of growing old gracefully. Research shows that being in a loving relationship quiets the demons of depression and despair. So, if you want to be healthy, be loving. Jesus would agree. The rabbis of Jesus day argued about which was the greatest commandment of the six hundred thirteen in the Torah. When the Pharisees asked Jesus, he answered that what God wanted most from the chosen people who had been liberated from slavery and called to live in a covenantal relationship was a return of the love God showed to them. This love has two faces: loving God totally and loving one another as one loves oneself. Loving is a contagious activity. If you are loved, you tend to be loving. Paul is sounding this note when he writes to the Thessalonians about how they became imitators of him and his fellow evangelizers Timothy and Silvanus, and of the Lord himself, receiving the word and living in faith, joy, and love for each other, because they believed in God s love for them, revealed in Christ. Our love must flow outward in compassionate generosity. The Lord called on Israel to show its love by not oppressing aliens, not wronging weak orphans and defenseless widows, and not extorting the poor by demanding interest on loans. No less is asked of those who have received the Holy Spirit and live in community with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That s us. Love one another. James A. Wallace, C.Ss.R. RELIGIA MIŁOŚCI... Religia chrześcijańska jest religią miłości. Nie mierzy się jej długością odprawianych nabożeństw ani ilością zmówionych pacierzy, ale mierzy się ją naszą miłością. Chrześcijaństwo to nie jest żaden system filozoficzny, ani ekonomiczny. Ono wyrosło z Bożej miłości i tą miłością się legitymuje oraz w oparciu o tę miłość działa. Żródłem miłości w chrześcijaństwie jest Bóg. Św. Jan Ewangelista mówi, że Bóg jest miłością... A myśmy uwierzyli miłości (1J. 4, 16). Zostawiając nam przykład swej miłości Jezus umiłował nas wszystkich do końca - to jest do ostateczności i bez końca - to znaczy zawsze nas kocha. Nie było nas i kochał nas, jesteśmy i kocha nas, nie będzie nas na świecie i też nas będzie kochał. Poznawano Go kiedyś na świecie po tym szerokim geście miłości i miłosierdzia. Św. Augustyn przemawiając do swoich wiernych pytał ich: powiedz mi, co miłujesz, a ja ci od razu odpowiem kim jesteś. Jeśli ziemię miłujesz, ziemią jesteś, jeśli niebo miłujesz, niebem jesteś, jeśli Boga miłujesz. Bogiem jesteś. Drogi chrześcijaninie, katoliku! Powiedz mi, co ty miłujesz, a ja ci od razu odpowiem kim jesteś. Co nosisz w zamarkach swego serca? Jakie są Twoje pragnienia i myśli? Jezus Chrystus podkreślając potrzebę miłości Boga nie zapomniał o miłości człowieka. Przypomniał faryzeuszom tylko już istniejące przykazanie w Księdzie Kapłańskiej rozdz. 19, 18: Będziesz miłował bliźniego, jak siebie samego. Ja jestem Pan. Miłość bliźniego ma być taka sama, jak miłość Boga, to znaczy, ma obejmować serce, duszę i myśli ludzkie. To ma być inaczej mówiąc miłość totalna. Ma obejmować całego człowieka, wszystkie jego potrzeby i sprawy. Ma także sobą ogarniać wszystkich ludzi. Mówiąc o miłości bliźniego Jezus specjalnie zaznaczał, że nie ma miłości drugiego człowieka bez miłości Boga. Te dwie miłości ściśle się za sobą łączą i jedna zależy od drugiej. Czym jest bowiem miłość Boga bez miłości człowieka? To jest fałszywa pobożność! A czym jest miłość człowieka beż miłości Boga? Jest to zwyczajny egoizm czyli miłość samego siebie. To nie jest autentyczna miłość! Św. Jan Ewangelista mówi nam wyraźnie: Jeśli ktoś mówi: miłuję Boga, a bliźniego swego nienawidzi kłamcą jest. Albowiem kto nie miłuje brata swego, którego widzi nie może miłować Boga, którego nie widzi (1J. 4, 20). Te dwie miłości są ze sobą niemal organicznie związane i dopiero wtedy są prawdziwymi miłościami. Ks. Idzi

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago, our places of worship are now most often arranged so that those who are physically disabled can be present more easily. There is steady progress, marked each year with the celebration of Inclusion Awareness Day in the fall. I encourage our parishes to participate in this important initiative. I am grateful for the work of Pathways.org in raising the level of sensitivity of all of us to those in our parish communities who have physical, sensory or cognitive disabilities. Information on Inclusion Awareness Day and the availability of $1,000 grants to help fund parish access projects can be found at their website, www.inclusioninworship.org. I am proud of what we have done here in the Archdiocese to minister with and for people with disabilities. Having struggled most of my life to keep walking, I automatically mentally classify places according to how accessible they are. More recently, I m aware of how chronic illness can sap one s spirit. For these reasons, I am especially grateful for the ways our parishes seek to make it easier for all people to access their community s place of worship. May God bless all of you and your families. Przez większość mojego życia chodzenie sprawia mi trudność, toteż w myślach automatycznie klasyfikuję różne miejsca pod kątem ich dostępności. Ostatnimi czasy mam szczególną świadomość tego, jak przewlekła choroba może osłabić czyjegoś ducha. Dlatego właśnie bardzo doceniam wysiłki i starania podejmowane w naszych parafiach dla umożliwienia w szystkim członkom wspólnoty dostępu do miejsc, gdzie mogą oddawać cześć Bogu. Niech Bóg błogosławi Was i Waszych bliskich. Każdego dnia pamiętam o Was i Waszych intencjach przed Panem i proszę, abyście i Wy pamiętali o mnie w swoich modlitwach. LECTORS, now called Ministers of the Word proclaim and share the Word of God with our parish family at liturgies. They bring God s word to life at Mass, as they proclaim the Scriptures and sometimes lead the Prayers of the Faithful. They devote time to preparing and reflecting on the readings in advance so they may be proclaimed with familiarity, reverence and love. Our parish is now seeking Ministers of the Word candidates. A candidate should be a baptized, member of the parish who has received Confirmation and regularly attends Mass. Please contact a priest after any Mass, call the Parish office at 773-545-8840 in regards to becoming a Minister of the Word or fill out the bottom portion and return it to us. EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS are lay people who volunteer and are trained by the Church to assist the priest in distributing Holy Communion at Mass. Eucharistic ministers can also become Ministers of Care who help in bringing the Eucharist to the sick at area hospitals and nursing homes, and make home visits to those unable to participate in community worship. Each minister receives instructions dealing with the role of lay ministers, with an emphasis on the Eucharist. Eucharistic ministers assist in the nourishing of God's children with the Body and Blood of Christ.
