Page Two July 12, 2015 Reflecting on God s Word Traveling by plane these days calls for careful preparation. One airline recently posted notice that if your bag weighs more than fifty pounds, there is an additional fee of fifty dollars. Add in the restrictions on carry-on baggage: no liquids more than three ounces, no bags beyond a certain size. It encourages you to travel light. Jesus is issuing his own travel instructions to those he chose to work with him. First, he gives them authority over unclean spirits (Mark 6:7), a sharing in the authority the Father has given him for the work of spreading the gospel that the reign of evil is over and the reign of God is beginning. Then, Jesus gets practical: Take nothing but a walking stick to be used in climbing hills, driving off wild animals, or pushing away snakes found on the paths. No food, no sack to hold extra clothing not even a second tunic or to carry off anything from the towns you visit, and no money! Permission granted to wear sandals. Finally, when you get to a place, do not look for the most comfortable lodging, take what comes first and be content there. The focus is clear: Stay on message God s kingdom is at hand. Repent and believe. And show it in action: Deliver the sick and possessed from what burdens them. If people don t like the message? Move on. Over two thousand years later, Jesus, risen Lord, continues to call ordinary folk. Back then it was some fishermen, a tax collector, a political activist; now it s workers from every way of life, every profession and job. People raising families, singles, the elderly, anyone willing to confess that God is at work in our world, that evil will not have the last word, and that all creation finds its deepest meaning in Christ. All rights reserved. NASZE POWOŁANIE Dzisiejsze czytania mszalne mówią nam o powołaniu, jakie Bóg kieruje do człowieka i o naszej odpowiedzialności na Boże wezwanie. Ewangelia opowiada o powołaniu i rozesłaniu apostołów: Jezus przywołał do siebie Dwunastu i zaczął rozsyłać ich po dwóch (Mk. 6,7). Chrystus posyła ich na próbne przepowiadanie, żeby głosili innym Ewangelię, którą od niego słyszeli i wzywali lud do nawrócenia. Czas przeżywanych wakacji czy urlopów pomaga nam w uświadomieniu sobie prawdy o naszym misyjnym powołaniu. Wynika ono ze zbawczej misji Jezusa Chrystusa, którą przekazał Kościołowi. Ostatnią Jego wolą był przecież nakaz misyjny skierowany do Apostołów: Idźcie na cały świat i głoście Ewangelię całemu stworzeniu (Mk. 16, 15). Wszyscy wyznawcy Chrystusa na mocy chrztu i bierzmowania są powołani do tej misji. Dlaczego jednak u chrześcijan jest tak mała świadomość misyjna? Dlaczego tak często skłonni jesteśmy uważać, że nakaz misyjny Chrystusa odnosi się tylko do wybranych? Zasadniczą przyczyną tego jest brak osobowej, głębokiej relacji z Jezusem Chrystusem. Nikt nie może mieć zapału w głoszeniu Ewangelii, jeśli wcześniej nie spotkał się twarzą w twarz z Chrystusem. Siła i skuteczność ewangelizacji zależy od osobistego z Nim zjednoczenia. Jeśli ludzkie serca trwają w Jego miłości, wtedy tą miłością chcą się dzielić drugimi. Możemy sobie także postawić kolejne pytanie: czy piękno Ewangelii, którą trzeba głosić i bronić widać w naszym zachowaniu? Czy żyjemy według tego w co wierzymy? Tyle jest dzisiaj przewrotnych idei i baseł, tyle gorszących zachowań, tyle kuszących sytuacji. Nie ma właściwie przykazania, które nie byłoby kwestionowane i prawdy Bożej, która nie była ośmieszana. Jakże łatwo nam w tym wszystkim jest zagubić się sprzeniewierzyć Ewangelii. Pamiętajmy, że mamy w sobie dary Ducha Świętego; dar mądrości, umiejętności, rady, męstwa i pobożności. One kryją w sobie moc Bożą, która ułatwia nam to zadanie. Musimy sami iść wiernie i konsekwentnie tą drogą i innych na nią także wprowadzać. Pamiętajmy, że stoimy na progu III Tysiąclecia głoszenia Ewangelii. Od naszej odwagi, umiejętności i konsekwencji życiowej zależy, jakie będą dalsze jej losy w świecie, w którym żyjemy. Ks. LECTORS, now called Ministers of the Word proclaim and share the Word of God with our parish family at liturgies. They bring God s word to life at Mass, as they proclaim the Scriptures and sometimes lead the Prayers of the Faithful. They devote time to preparing and reflecting on the readings in advance so they may be proclaimed with familiarity, reverence and love. Our parish is now seeking Ministers of the Word candidates. A candidate should be a baptized, member of the parish who has received Confirmation and regularly attends Mass. EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS are lay people who volunteer and are trained by the Church to assist the priest in distributing Holy Communion at Mass. Eucharistic ministers can also become Ministers of Care who help in bringing the Eucharist to the sick at area hospitals and nursing homes, and make home visits to those unable to participate in community worship. Each minister receives instructions dealing with the role of lay ministers, with an emphasis on the Eucharist. Eucharistic ministers assist in the nourishing of God's children with the Body and Blood of Christ. Scouts must plan, develop and lead a service project for any religious organization or any school or community. Patrick has chosen our church for his project. The church needs improvement on the outside ledge around the building. For this project it will need to be scraped, sanded, and painted. Patrick is asking for any volunteer workers to help on his project.
