Page Two August 8, 2010 Office of the Archbishop Post Office Box 1979 Chicago, Illinois 60690-1979 June 25, 2010 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The Catholic League for Religious Assistance to Poland has come to the aid of the Church in Poland with the generous support of people in the Archdiocese of Chicago since 1943. The Pontifical College and the Pontifical Institute in Rome, as well as the Polish Seminary in Paris, provide advanced education of the clergy so they may be trained to move into leadership roles in dioceses and seminaries in Poland. These centers of learning rely on the annual subsidy of over $300,000 from the Catholic League. Without the assistance of the Catholic League, it would be nearly impossible to maintain these institutions. The Catholic League for Religious Assistance to Poland also reponds to requests for assistance from diocesan bishops seeking help for hospitals, orphanages and parishes in Poland. Traditionally, the Catholic League s Annual Appeal has been taken up in parishes on the weekend nearest the Feast of Our Lady of Czestochowa, August 26. (The collection in our parish will take place the weekend of August 13th and 14th next weekend.) Through the assistance of your parish s special collection or your individual contribution, the Church in Poland can continue its strong practice of the Catholic faith. Individual donations may be mailed to the Catholic League for Religious Assistance to Poland, 1400 S. Austin Blvd., Cicero, IL 60804. Much depends on our united effort. I thank you for your generosity in the name of the faithful in Poland. Prosimy o przesyłanie indywidualnych ofiar bezpośrednio na adres: Catholic League for Religious Assistance to Poland, 1400 S. Austin Blvd., Cicero, IL 60804. Wiele zależy od naszego wspólnego wysiłku, stąd w imieniu wszystkich wiernych w Polsce, z serca dziękuję za złożone ofiary. Szczerze oddany w Chrystusie, Francis Kardynał George, O.M.I. Arcybiskup Chicago

Page Four August 8, 2010 CATECHISTS NEEDED! CAN YOU HELP?! Although we are in the middle of summer and the thought of starting a new Religious Education school year may seem a bit premature, it is never too soon to begin planning for our wonderful students who are in need of individuals who are willing to share their faith. We are looking for individuals who love their faith and want to make a difference in a child s faith formation. I believe we have people in our parish who are willing to bring the Word of God to children who cannot attend a Catholic School. Won t you please help us by volunteering as a catechist so that we can continue to accept all the children who come to us? For those of you who are a little apprehensive about teaching, be advised that the Archdiocese of Chicago offers classes for new catechists to help prepare you to teach. You will also have a great support system provided by the present teachers. If you are interested and want more information, please call the Religious Education office at (773) 685-3785. Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Five Letter from Gwen Moncada to Father Idzi, dated July 19, 2010 Dear Father Idzi: On June 5, I notified you of my proposed fund rasising effort on behalf of St. Priscilla Church. My cookbook, GWEN S FAMILY RECIPES, has been printed in a limited quantity of 227 by Morris Press. It contains 178 recipes, some of which have been handed down from generation to generation. My renewed incentive to complete the cookbook was in thanksgiving for gradual health improvement from a devastating case of shingles. I promised the Lord, that if He would give me the strength, if it be His will, I would complete my cookbook, and use the cookbook as a fund raising project for St. Priscilla. It will be sold for $15.00 a copy and $10.00 from each cookbook sold will be donated to St. Priscilla Church and $5.00 will be used to partially cover the cost of production. Additionally, any proceeds in excess of the cost of production will also be donated to St. Priscilla Church. This is a not for profit project. With your permission, I would like to make my cookbook available to any parishioner interested in participating in this fund raise by purchasing a copy by calling me at (773) 685-7128. A complete financial report will be given to you upon completion of the project. Warmest personal regards, Gwen Moncada Dear Gwen, Your interest in organizing a fund raiser for our parish is an unexpected, profound gesture. I was very pleasantly surprised by your proposal of this project. Even before this project begins, I would like to express to you my utmost gratitude for this undertaking. Your faith and prayers have guided you through your illness and I promise you that you will remain in my prayers as well. May God bless you for your gratitude and bestow upon you and your family His choicest blessings. With sincere gratitude, Rev. Idzi Stacherczak, Pastor These cookbooks will be sold after all Masses the weekend of August 14th and 15th. ALL INTERESTED PARISHIONERS ARE INVITED TO CALL GWEN!

Page Six August 8, 2010 Religious Education News Registration Information Registration for Religious Education classes will be held after all the Masses on August 28th and 29th and September 11th and 12th. The rectory office is prepared to take registration for classes at any time. The office has all the necessary forms that need to be filled out. The fees will be the same as in the past: 1 child $160.00 2 children $240.00 3 children $290.00 There is also a $30.00 registration fee that is required for each child. Ideally, we would like to have the tuition paid in full, but realistically, I know this cannot be done by most families. I am asking that the registration fee be paid at the time of registration. The balance of the tuition can be spread out in monthly payments. Religious Education classes are held on Saturdays, from 9:00 until 10:30 A.M. Classes will start on September 18, 2010. We are also accepting registration for any eighth grade or high school student who has not received the sacrament on Confirmation. If you have any questions, please contact Judy Banasiak in the Religious Education Office at (773) 685-3785.
