W Kościele Duch Święty powołuje i upoważnia nas, którzy są członkami tego Ciała. Przez Kościół wiemy, że wezwanie Psalmisty spełni się, gdy sami będziemy śpiewać: "Naucz mnie swoich dróg, o Panie". INFORMACJE KSIĘDZA PROBOSZCZA Kochani Parafianie i Przyjaciele Kościoła Św. Jadwigi. W dzisiejszym biuletynie chcialbym poruszyc jak Bog przez motywacje naszych dusz, doprowadza nas do dzialania. W dzisiejszej Ewangelii czytamy jak Bóg powiedział Jonaszowi aby "udał się do wielkiego miasta Niniwy i ogłosił mu przesłanie". Jonasz przeszedł przez to "ogromne miasto", ogłaszając wszystkim, że bedzie ono zniszczone w ciągu czterdziestu dni. Wiemy, że motywy Jonasza były czyste, ponieważ na pozór wyglądałoby to na szalone. Z kolei we fragmencie Ewangelii o rybakach, Jezus wezwał: Szymona, Andrzeja, Jakuba i Jana: "Chodźcie za mną, a uczynię z God told Jonah, in our First Reading, to set out for the great city of Ninevah, and announce to it the message that I will tell you. He walked through this enormously large city, announcing to them that it would be destroyed in forty days. We know his motives were pure, because to outward appearances, this would seem crazy. In the Gospel passage, Jesus called the fishermen Simon, Andrew, James, and John: Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men. They left everything boats, nets, fish, family and followed Him immediately. Again, this would not seem to a worldly man to be a well thought out, sane action. But consider what motivated them. God in the souls of Jonah and the first apostles moved them to action. It s within Jesus that is, within His Mystical Body that the Holy Spirit most powerfully works in the world. Within the Church the Holy Spirit calls and empowers us who are members of this Body. Through the Church we know that the Psalmist s call will be fulfilled when we ourselves sing, Teach me your ways, O Lord. Through the Church the Holy Spirit will enlighten and inspire each of us who is willing to allow God to motivate us for the sake of accomplishing His divine will. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION One of the most unusual Catholic churches in the world is in Amsterdam: Our Lord in the Attic, or as the locals say, Ons Lieve Heer op Solder. What looks like a beautiful narrow brick mansion alongside a canal is a clever disguise for a very well-preserved seventeenth-century home and a secret church. During the Reformation, the Netherlands was divided into Protestant Holland and the Spanish Netherlands, now known as Belgium, a Catholic stronghold. Protestant reformers seized all the Catholic parishes in Holland and de-catholicized them. New laws forbade the celebration of the Mass in public. St. Nicholas Church was renamed Old Church by the new owners, and the dispossessed Catholics got to work hiding St. Nicholas Parish in the upper floors of this mansion. Other Catholics did the same thing, but this is the only hidden church that survives today. Sunday Mass is still celebrated here. It s a beautiful hideaway, with nothing spared in regard to marble, gilding, a pipe organ, and classic Dutch painting. A few steps away, the Old Church, begun in 1250, stands emptied of the statues and carvings of its Catholic days, its windows replaced by plain glass. The new tenants gave up when it came to the ceiling, which is still painted with saints, biblical scenes, and merchant ships. The Dutch reformers were tolerant sorts, and as long as the Catholics kept out of sight, they were out of mind. Catholicism was at last tolerated in Holland after 1853, but in 1924 when the International Eucharistic Congress was held in Amsterdam, processions of Catholics were still forbidden in the streets. For any changes please call the rectory. THE DEMANDS OF DISCIPLESHIP Today we encounter readings that already have a Lenten feel about them. Nineveh undergoes a forty-day fast, the psalmist reminds us that God alone can show sinners the way, Paul shows us how fleeting the things and events of this world are, and Jesus cries out Repent! before he calls his new followers. Come after me, Jesus says, but if we are to truly live out the commands and demands of our discipleship through baptism, we must first know our need for conversion, our repentance, our need to believe in the gospel fully. Today s Gospel opens with the stark reminder of what befell John the Baptist for completely living out his vocation as the herald of Christ and the gospel: he was arrested, imprisoned, and martyred. Though few of us will experience consequences that extreme, we must all be ready to risk some sort of rejection as, heeding the call of Jesus, we live out the kingdom of God at hand, repent of our sins, and believe in the good news of salvation. Mark 1:15 St. Hedwig s Faith Formation Program The goal of participation in this program is to prepare oneself, as practicing Catholics, to receive the sacraments. Being Catholic is a lifelong endeavor and involves much more than receiving a select number of sacraments. It is a process that continues through one s life and ideally should reflect in one s daily life. Please come and join us Our class program is held on Thursday: Grades 1-5 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm Grades 6-8 from 6:15pm to 7:20pm First Grade In the second half of the semest er, our First Graders will learn more about the life of Jesus. They will hear stories about Jesus growing up and showing us how He obeyed Mary, His mother and Saint Joseph, His foster father. We will touch upon some of the many miracles that Jesus performed. The children will learn that Jesus was a teacher who walked from town to town so everyone can learn that God loves us and wants us to be in Heaven with Him some day. As well as receiving a list of The Ten Commandments that are God s laws to live by, the First Graders will learn about the Seven Sacraments that are God s grace to us. The Mystery of the Blessed Trinity and the coming of the Holy Spirit to the apostles on Pentecost Sunday will reinforce our children to try to do good deeds on earth so they too can continue the work of Jesus. With each class, the children will continue to say their prayers and be encouraged to pray daily and attend Mass with their parents. Parents are the first teachers to their children and it is very important that they help their children learn their prayers by heart. Our children must realize that faith does not stop after class.
