Wow! A crowd of 1,000 people filled the church on Tuesday evening to visit with their Mother! Another 200 came to the farewell Mass the following morning to tearfully send Her off to Her next destination in State college, PA. There was so much excitement in the air during the entire short visit, including knowing that three strong women stayed with Mother the ENTIRE night! If you were one of those thousand plus people who attended the evening Mass you know what I am talking about. Before the icon arrived, the level of anticipation was astronomical! Then, when it finally made its way down the aisle, the faces on our parishioners and guests were lit up like anything! Smiles and tears and wide eyes and bent knees welcomed Our Lady into our church. After the welcome by Fr. Eric the Church prayed a beautiful rosary accompanied by scriptural passages and Marian hymns. The mysteries used were the Luminous, that set of mysteries formularized by Blessed John Paul II whose feast we celebrated that day. Shortly after 7 PM the Mass began with the singing of the processional hymn Totus Tuus, words based on the motto of Bl. John Paul II along with the verses being the Litany of Loreto. We sang the Kyrie from the Missa de Angelis and then Bishop Roger Gries intoned the Gloria. Our singing of the Credo in Latin was the melody used at the Vatican for all major celebrations and gatherings of Catholics from around the world. The remainder of the Mass included many John Paul II related songs as well as a beautiful Ave Maria sung by cantor, Damian Henri. It was a beautiful celebration. We welcomed Mary with drums and trumpets, bells and voices...all befitting the Queen of Creation. The crowd lingered into the night as many people stayed and prayed to Mary. Three strong women managed to be the soldiers who guarded Our Lady all through the vigil, the glow on their faces masking any hint of being tired. With the arrival of daylight we saw at least 200 additional people arrive for Mass and rosaries (The Grade School offered a rosary at 8:30 AM and behaved like real angels). Then, the sad hour of 11 AM arrived and we had to bid farewell. That event saw many tears, even from the skies, as Mother was escorted our to her vehicle with the help of the captains of the Central Catholic football team. We were blessed with her visit. Let s pray the tiny seeds of faith planted produce fruit. David Krakowski
DADS CLUB MEMORIAL SERVICE A reminder to all Dads Club members regarding the annual Memorial Service held the first Tuesday of November (Election Day this year) for all the deceased members of the club. As is the custom, the names of those deceased will be read by members of the club. The service will be held in the Shrine Church preceding the monthly meeting. MASSES STILL AVAILABLE There are still about 20 Masses available for personal intentions for 2012. When you notice a blank spot in the bulletin listing of Masses that particular Mass will be offered for the private intention of the priest celebrating the Mass. LEGIBLE HANDWRITING Those parishioners who will be submitting names of deceased loved ones on the All Souls envelopes are asked to take extra special care while listing the names. PRINTING is the preferred method as hand writing is often difficult for our staff to decipher. November 5, 2013 General Election Voters in all of Cuyahoga County s municipalities will be included in the November 5th General Election. Municipal, Judicial, and School Board candidates are on the ballot as well as County and local issues. To avoid lines on Election Day, and to allow extra time to study the ballot, all registered voters may Vote by Mail. Vote by Mail ballot applications are available at the Board of Elections website: www.443vote.com, by calling the Board of Elections at 216-443-VOTE, and at all public libraries. It is important for all voters to be prepared to cast their ballots. The voter registration deadline is October 7th. Voters who have moved or changed their name since they last voted need to complete and return a new Voter Registration Card. Voters who are interested in serving as poll workers may call 216-443-VOTE or apply on-line at: www.443vote.com ICON ARRIVAL The icon arrived in front of our church at 5:32 PM to be welcomed by Fr. Eric and David Krakowski, then was entrusted shortly after to the Knights of Columbus who would the icon into the church in solemn procession. We were blessed with some brisk but clear skies and a warm church. Thus began Our Ladiy s visit! INFANTS/TODDLERS OF SLAVIC VILLAGE Please be mindful of the infants and toddlers of Slavic Village who are in need of your support by donating needed food items to this cause. GOT PIEROGI?? The Festival is over and we find ourselves, once again, with a few cases of frozen pierogi which will be made available for sale. The date for this event will be this weekend, October 26-27. The varieties available include: sweet cheese, potato/cheddar, kraut/mushroom, meat, spinach and muehlhausen (a mixture of meat and spinach). They go quickly, so plan on dropping down to the Social Center that weekend to stock up for the holidays! As last year, the price will be $5 per dozen. The goal is to sell out that weekend. Kiedy wsłuchujemy się w liturgię słowa dzisiejszej niedzieli, odkrywamy po raz kolejny prawdę o wywyższeniu człowieka. Wywyższeniu, którego człowiek pragnie i szuka przez całe życie. Spoglądając na siebie widzimy, że często to pragnienie wywyższenia człowieka próbujemy realizować na własną rękę. Nauka, praca, doskonalenie umiejętności, znajomi, przyjaźnie a także inne życiowe inwestycje: takie jak dom, samochód, ubrania, wakacje Wszystko to ma prowadzić bardziej czy mniej świadomie do podniesienia znaczenia mojej osoby. Wtedy się będą ze mną liczyli, słuchali mojego zdania. Zawsze jednak takie ślepe budowanie życia i własnej pozycji prowadzi do rozczarowań, a często do poważnych kryzysów. Wystarczy jakieś trudne doświadczenie. Zdrada, oszczerstwo wobec mojej osoby, nieuczciwość wspólników Słowo Boże zaprasza nas dzisiaj do odkrycia prawdy dotyczącej wywyższenia człowieka. To wywyższenie nie biegnie przez własne, najbardziej przemyślane działania, którym brak fundamentu, ale przez doświadczenie Bożego działania, w uprzedzającej człowieka łasce Bożej. To Bóg rozpoczyna w nas dobre dzieło i On w nas je kończy, jeśli z pokorą się na to działanie otworzymy. Spójrzmy na postać celnika. To on, mając świadomość społecznego, a może jeszcze bardziej, religijnego odrzucenia, staje przed Panem takim jaki jest w prawdzie. Zapewne nie był to człowiek biedny, jednak jego życie, doświadczone poprzez wiele upokorzeń i odrzuceń ze strony religijnych i pobożnych Żydów, prowadziło do postawy pokory i otwarcia serca na Boga, który chce działać i przemieniać jego serce. Faryzeusz natomiast był pewien swojej czystości. Ta pewność zamknęła jego serce. Jak słyszymy, to celnik odszedł usprawiedliwiony. To on doświadczył wywyższenia podniesienia z tego wszystkiego co w jego życiu było upadkiem, smutkiem, odrzucenie grzechem. Człowiekiem, który dla nas, chrześcijan, jest przykładem zaufania Panu i otwarcia na Jego słowo oraz działającą łaskę, jest niewątpliwie Apostoł Paweł. Słyszymy dzisiaj, jak w słowach głębokiego świadectwa wobec Bożego działania w jego życiu, swojemu uczniowi, Tymoteuszowi, duchowemu dziecku czyli temu, który przez świadectwo Pawła uwierzył Jezusowi pisze o śmierci która go czeka, o więzieniu, w którym przeżywa osamotnienie. Jednak w tym, co po ludzku zdaje się być klęską, św. Paweł odkrywa zwycięstwo. To Pan stanął przy nim, okrył go wieńcem sprawiedliwości. Paweł, który do końca ufa Jezusowi jest pewien tego, że wiary ustrzegł, że to co przed nim to zwycięstwo, wywyższenie! Kiedy dzisiaj patrzysz na swoje życie i dostrzegasz w nim tak wiele zadań, nie zapomnij o Tym, któremu warto zaufać. W życiowych doświadczeniach przyjdzie wiele rozczarowań, ludzkich zawodów. Są to okazje, aby się zniechęcić, poddać, nie pójść dalej Potrzeba wtedy drugiego człowieka, potrzeba jakby kotwicy, która pozwoli się zaczepić, przeczekać, nabrać sił. Ale najpewniejszą jest On Jezus Chrystus. To On najpewniej poprowadzi człowieka po ścieżkach wiary przez życie. To On pozwoli odkryć zwycięstwo w tym, co po ludzku wydaje się klęską i porażką. W Księdze Syracydesa czytamy dzisiaj: Kto służy Bogu, z upodobaniem będzie przyjęty, a błaganie jego dosięgnie obłoków. To dzięki Jezusowi Chrystusowi odkrywamy ciągle na nowo, że służba Bogu to nie ślepe rytuały, czy obrzędy ale doświadczenie Bożej miłości, Bożego przebaczenia i otwarcie serca na to, co jest Jego łaską. Nasza służba Bogu ma być pokorna, pełna ufności i otwarta na to, co Bóg dla nas przygotował. Tak jak Jezus nam to ukazał. Kiedy planujesz kolejne kroki w swoim życiu, kiedy do głowy przychodzą kolejne myśli i pomysły, jak tu się w życiu urządzić, wpatruj się w świadków wiary, tych, którzy jak św. Paweł apostoł i wielu innych, przeszli przez życie, otwierając się na Bożą łaskę. Oni odkryli, że prawdziwe wywyższenie człowieka dokonuje się nie dzięki naszym zasługom, zdobytym tytułom, majętności czy pozycji społecznej ale poprzez otwarcie serca na Boga, który przychodzi aby nas zbawić. autor: ks. PIEROGI, PIEROGI!!! Festiwal zakończył się. Jak co roku zostało nam trochę zamrożonych pierogów, które będziemy sprzedawać w dniach 26-27 października. Jakie? Z serem, ruskie, z kapustą i grzybami, z mięsem, ze szpinakiem oraz z mięsem i szpinakiem (muehlhausen). Pierogi w naszej okolicy to chodliwy towar, dlatego kto pierwszy, ten lepszy. Rok temu sprzedawaliśmy po 5 dol. za tuzin. Planujemy sprzedać wszystkie w ten weekend. SMACZNEGO!!!!!
