With all of the bad news which fills our airwaves regarding wars and disease and kidnappings, it is important to acknowledge that MANY good things also happen in the world each day. All people were elated at the recent events on the West side (as well as being reminded of the ongoing presence of evil in our midst). But, right here, in our own backyard, we have little rays of hope and happiness that should encourage all of us in smaller ways. The picture to the right shows two of our confirmandi, Armand and Elyssa presenting our pastor, Fr. Eric Stanislaus Orzech, with a spiritual bouquet from the schoolchildren on the occasion of his namesday this past Wednesday, the feast of St. Stanislaus. The morning Mass was festive and lively as the children even sang Sto Lat for Fr. Pastor! (The 25 people who attended the convenient evening Mass honoring our parish patron prayed for all the rest of the parishioners who had other things to do.) The picture to he left shows two of the weekday altarboys, Joseph Maggard and Mario Martinez performing their ministerial duties with Joseph demonstrating to Mario his expertise regarding the proper way to extinguish candles (a task not as easy as you might think!). And then we have the photograph bottom right submitted by Jeffrey Bartley. While sitting in church last Sunday Jeffrey realized that the missalettes in his pew reminded him of an angel! And, since it is the month of May and the month of Mary, he thought it appropriate to share his discovery with all of us to remind us of how angels partook in the events of Mary s life in so many ways. His mom and dad lent them the family camera and voila!!! It seems that all our guardian angels are kept very busy these days. One must say they certainly were busy over the past ten years with the women on the West side. They are always busy keeping watch over the many children in our school as well. And, without doubt, we all know times in our lives when, without doubt, they were right beside us to protect us from harm which could easily have directed us down dangerous paths and detours away from the life God intends for each of us. We all know the power which evil can have on the innocent as well as those who are amongst the brightest stars in our world. I am always reminded of the evil which tried to overpower Fr. William just over a decade ago. I remember the evil which tried numerous times to destroy our own parish and which still looks for ways to capture the hearts and minds and souls of all of us to stop us from doing God s work in our neighborhood and beyond. We are bombarded with seeds of doubt and acts of cynicism on a daily basis. Those guardian angels which God appointed to each of us must be exhausted at times trying to keep us from stepping on mines! Now, as Summer approaches, we must pray that all the children and the most vulnerable be protected as they wander in the world outside of our sphere of influence. Nowadays all guardian angels deserve a raise! David Krakowski

4 Nieś niebo innym Czterdzieści dni po Niedzieli Zmartwychwstania Chrystusa Kościół katolicki świętuje uroczystość Wniebowstąpienia Pańskiego. Jest to pamiątka triumfalnego powrotu Pana Jezusa do nieba, skąd przyszedł na ziemię dla naszego zbawienia przyjmując naturę ludzką. Wniebowstąpienie jest dniem królewskiej intronizacji Chrystusa, tryumfem, jaki przygotowuje swojemu Synowi Bóg Ojciec. Stąd wiele radości w tekstach liturgicznych. Jest ono też poręczeniem powtórnego przyjścia Chrystusa: Ten Jezus, wzięty od was do nieba, przyjdzie tak samo, jak widzieliście Go wstępującego do nieba (Dz 1, 11). Chrystus powróci dla ostatecznego tryumfu dobra: powróci, by oddać swemu Ojcu wszystko, by zgromadzić wszystkich i wszystko w Kościele. Wniebowstąpienie jest nie tylko ostatecznym i uroczystym wywyższeniem Jezusa z Nazaretu, ale również zadatkiem i gwarancją wywyższenia, wyniesienia do chwały natury ludzkiej. Nasza wiara i nadzieja chrześcijan zostają dzisiaj umocnione i utwierdzone, bowiem jesteśmy zaproszeni nie tylko do tego, by rozważać własną małość, słabość i ubóstwo, ale także ową przemianę wspanialszą aniżeli samo dzieło stworzenia, przemianę, której Chrystus w nas dokonuje wówczas, kiedy jesteśmy z Nim zjednoczeni dzięki łasce i sakramentom. Pan Jezus wstąpił do nieba nie sam, ale zabrał ze sobą wszystkie dusze świętych. Ten dzień jest tym radośniejszy, że Chrystus powrócił do swojego Ojca wraz z naturą ludzką, w której walczył na ziemi i zwyciężył. Przyoblekł się w nią dla naszego zbawienia, kiedy począł się z Ducha Świętego w łonie Maryi Dziewicy. Teraz jako Bóg - Człowiek po pokonaniu śmierci w tajemnicy zmartwychwstania i w tej naturze odbiera dodatkową chwałę. Wniebowstąpienie to więc nie tylko osobisty triumf Chrystusa, ale także nasze zwycięstwo, najwyższa chwała naszej ludzkiej natury. Kiedy wyznajemy wiarę podczas Mszy św., odmawiamy wtedy takie słowa: Wstąpił do nieba, siedzi po prawicy Ojca. Dla nas oznacza to, że zostaliśmy wyniesieni ponad wszystkie stworzenia, nawet ponad aniołów. W uwielbionej naturze Jezusa Chrystusa chwałę odbiera nie tylko człowiek, ale również całe stworzenie. Św. Augustyn zachęca wierzących w Chrystusa nasz Pan, Jezus Chrystus, wstąpił do nieba: podążajmy tam sercem razem z Nim. Pan Jezus chociaż wstąpił do nieba, nie odszedł od nas. Podobnie i my już jesteśmy razem z Nim w ojczyźnie niebieskiej, choć w naszym ciele nie spełniło się jeszcze to, co jest nam obiecane. Tajemnica Wniebowstąpienia nie każe jednak odrywać oczu od ziemi, lecz czynić ją sobie poddaną w ten sposób, aby budować nową ziemię i nowego niebo. Tajemnica Wniebowstąpienia ukazuje sens pracy i ludzkich wysiłków, utwierdza chrześcijańską misję w świecie. Każdy człowiek powołany jest do tego, aby podporządkowując sobie ziemię, odnosił do Boga siebie i wszystkie rzeczy. Chodzi tu również o zwykłe, codzienne zajęcia, najdrobniejsze nawet prace, które rozwijają dzieło Stwórcy, zaradzają potrzebom swoich braci. Na świętowane dziś wydarzenie używamy określenia "wniebowstąpienie", gdyż Chrystus własną mocą wstąpił na niebiosa. Swoją Matkę natomiast, a kiedyś także nas wszystkich, Chrystus zabierze do nieba. Stąd mówimy o "wniebowzięciu". Ks. Józef

5 PARISH COUNCIL ELECTIONS The Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus is blessed to have seven excellent candidates for Parish Pastoral Council this year: Joseph Calamante, Marilyn Mosinski, Candace Pritchard, Katherine Lewicki, Dena Richards, Lynn Vaccariello and Ronal Zeszut. An insert was included in last week s bulletin with the candidates pictures and biographies. We will vote at all Masses this weekend of May 11-12, and elect two of these to three year terms and one for a two year term. Three additional one year positions on Council will be filled by appointment. Registered parishioners at least 14 years of age are eligible to vote. You may request an absentee ballot by calling the parish office, but all ballots must be received no later than May 12 th WYBORY DO RADY PARAFIALNEJ Sanktuarium św. Beginning on Mothers' Day and continuing for the next month, a special Mass will be offered weekly for the intention of our living and deceased mothers. If you would like to include your mother (and other special women in your life) in these prayers, please fill out one of the special Mothers' Day envelopes found in the bulletin and/or at the entrances to the church, and leave it in the special basket in front of the Blessed Mother altar.

6 School Corner Mr. David and I were just chatting this morning about how quickly the end of year is approaching. So much has been going on. So many things to do before June. This is the time of year when we try to see how many events can be accomplished in six weeks, while maintaining a strong learning environment. We could not be as successful as we are as a school community without the involvement of the parish and its organizations. Certainly, the Alumni Association has flooded us with energy and funds and support of our mission. The Pastoral Council continues to be an interested stakeholder in our success. Finance Council patiently and thoroughly helps us through the ups and downs of fiscally running a Catholic school filled with 91% low income families. So as we continue in the month of May, complete with Shakespeare in the Neighborhood, May Crowning, the Spring Concert, an all-school retreat, two graduations, field day, Streamer Mass, and somehow manage to still pray the rosary and learn Reading skills, know that we are grateful for the confidence shown to us as we continue in our ministry of education children in the Catholic tradition. Look at all the happy faces from last week s Donut Sunday!!! Well, perhaps...it seems someone (Homer Simpson) snatched away Bob Potoma s donut when he wasn t looking...and Ray Tegowski is telling Bob to be more vigilant in the future! Can anyone confirm??
