COMMUNITY INFORMATION Sacrificial Giving for the Week of May 7. 2017 $4,001.00 Catholic Elementary Schools $1,152.00 Sacrificial Giving for the Week of May 14, 2017 $3,932.00 Renovation of the Sacristy $1,714.00 INFORMACJE KSIĘDZA PROBOSZCZA Drodzy parafianie i przyjaciele Kościoła Św. Jadwigi. Będzie zawierać krótki rys historyczny i zdjęcia. W związku z takimi planami zwracam się z prośbą, aby pomóc nam w zebraniu zdjęć z minionych lat, pokazujących wnętrze, otoczenie kościoła i wydarzenia religijne, rodzinne i parafialne. FROM THE PASTOR S DESK. Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Hedwig s Church. St. Hedwig s Church in Floral Park is not only a sanctuary to God but also contains over 115 years of history for Catholics living here. From 1902, the year this church was founded, until now, the church has recreated the surrounding views of the town as well as of Long Island itself. Knowing about the fast pace of time, I would like a book to be published about our wonderful parish. It will contain some historical context as well as pictures. With these plans in hand, I am requesting a favor of the community to submit pictures from all the years of this church s existence, these pictures should incorporate the interior and exterior of the church or any pictures taken during any religious ceremonies. I am also requesting any newsletter or papers regarding the church from the past to supply us with more historical context and information. I would also like to thank everyone for the 6 years of help, prayers, and best wishes for this church and all of its attendants. I am very thankful to everyone who celebrated my incardination to this diocese. I thank all of you who helped bring cake and coffee during last Sunday. I will keep you all in my prayers Your Pastor, Fr. Peter Polecam wszystkich opiece Bożej w modlitwie. mojej Wasz Proboszcz Ks. Piotr

THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM This seventh Sunday of Easter is somewhat like the proverbial calm before the storm. The Lord Jesus has ascended into heaven and Pentecost has not yet occurred. Rather than immediately taking up Jesus command to go out to all the nations, the disciples gather in the upper room with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers (Acts 1:14). There they all devote themselves to prayer. The Gospel recounts the great prayer for the disciples that Jesus offered to his Father in heaven. If the words of Jesus while he was on earth finally began to sink in for the disciples, then gathering to pray was certainly the right choice, for the second reading lets us all know that to follow Christ means to have a share in his sufferings. Our duty is not to abandon ship, but to keep her on her course. ----St. Boniface
St. Hedwig"s Faith Formation Program The goal of participation in this program is to prepare oneself, as practicing Catholics, to receive the sacraments. Being Catholic is a lifelong endeavor and involves much more than receiving a select number of sacraments. It is a process that continues through one s life and ideally should reflect in one s daily life. Please come and join us. We will do registration in September 10 th, 2017 for the upcoming catechetical school year 2017-18. If you have any questions please contact rectory or Director of Religious Education Christopher Gospodarzec 631-875-8413 We look for Volunteer Religious Catechists or Assistant Catechists in our church. CONGRATULATIONS Robert Pomara receives Eagle Scout Rank Robert Pomara of New Hyde Park received his rank of Eagle Scout. His Eagle project was to renovate the religious education room at St. Hedwig s Church. Pomara and members of his troop repainted the 48-78 room, reattached all the floor moldings and reorganized the eight classrooms. This allowed both the staff and students to return to the new school era in a more organized and fitting environment. The rank of the Eagle Scout is the highest achievement for the Boy Scouts of America. Pomara is a member of Troop 294 of Elmont. During his years of service he completed 38 merit badges and four religious awards. He is a member of the Order of A rrow and has put in countless hours of community service. He could not have done it without the direction and support of his Scout Master Anthony Maffea and the entire troop of 294. Everyone is extremely proud of his hard work, dedication and perseverance. GRATULACJE Robert Pomara z New Hyde Park otrzymał tytuł Eagle Scout. Projekt Orła polegał na renowacji pomieszczeń szkolnych w Centrum Parafialnym św. Jadwigi.
