associate pastor `s Letter / List Ojca wikariusza Jesus in today's gospel returns to his home, to those he knows. He experiences a huge surprise - the bigger he impresses them, the smaller their openness to the newness. They got used to Jesus assisting Joseph in woodworking, probably speaking very little. But here they meet Jesus, who speaks of God with great eloquence, wisdom and self-confidence, and in addition he has the power that changes the lives and condition of the people. The image of Jesus as youth was so imprinted in their minds that it disabled them from seeing another face of Jesus who came to them, this time the one who has a very specific task from his Father (to proclaim the of the Kingdom of God that is at hand and to call for repentance), and to this mission he is equipped with specific tools (the power of making miracles). Such disbelief in Jesus - his task and tools - did not end 2000 years ago. It is mine and probably yours frequent experience! Many of us have become accustomed to the image of Jesus from childhood, or youthhood, in which each of us sits on long-established positions: "This Jesus will bring nothing new to my life. I know what He requires of me, and I just have to survive until the end of my days here on earth. Maybe there will be some surprise on the other side of my life, but I'm sure not here! " This attitude of resisting the newness of Jesus is often expressed, among others attitudes in the lack of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, not reading the Holy Bible, the rare use of the sacraments (boredom and the same stuff in the Eucharist; I would have to go to the confessional with the same sins and so on). This reality works also in our human interactions: how many times do we approach our loved ones the same way! Do you believe and notice that those who have been around you for a long time( your spouse, your child, relative, neighbor, priest, co-worker...) can surprise you (not in the sense of a scandal)? Do you believe that he or she can bring closer and reveal God to you, and that God has endowed them with gifts showing us the power of God's transforming love? Let us ask the Lord this week for open eyes and open hearts, which will allow us to be effectively surprised by the action of God and of our fellow men in our lives. Fr. Damian SJ Jezus z dzisiejszej ewangelii wraca w rodzinne strony, do tych których zna. I doświadcza ogromnego zaskoczenia- im większe robi wrażenie na nich, tym mniejsza jest ich otwartość na nowość. Przyzwyczaili się do Jezusa pracującego z Józefem przy obróbce drewna, być może nawet niewiele mówiącego. A tu spotykają Jezusa, który mówi o Bogu z ogromną elokwencją, mądrością i pewnością siebie, a na dodatek ma w sobie moc, która zmienia życie i kondycję ludzi. Obraz Jezusa z młodości tak im się wyrył w pamięci, że nie byli w stanie dostrzec, że to już inny Jezus do nich przychodzi, Ten który ma bardzo konkretne zadanie od swego Ojca (głosić bliskość Królestwa Bożego i wzywać do nawrócenia), i do tej misji ma konkretne narzędzia (moc czynienia znaków). To niedowierzanie w Jezusa- Jego zadanie i narzędzia- wcale nie skończyło się 2000 lat temu. To często moje i Twoje doświadczenie! Niejeden z nas przywykł do obrazu Jezusa z dzieciństwa, bądź młodości, do takiej relacji, w której każdy z nas siedzi na z góry i od dawna upatrzonych pozycjach: Ten Jezus nie wniesie już nic nowego do mojego życia. Wiem czego ode mnie wymaga, jakoś muszę dotrwać do końca mych dni tu na ziemi. Może tam, po drugiej stronie życia będzie mnie czekać miła niespodzianka, ale na pewno nie tu!. Ta postawa zamknięcia na nowość Jezusa wyraża się między innymi brakiem adoracji Najświętszego Sakramentu, lektury Pisma Świętego, rzadkim korzystaniem z sakramentów (bo nuda i w kółko to samo na Eucharystii, bo do konfesjonału musiałbym pójść z takimi samymi grzechami ). A ileż razy tak samo podchodzimy do najbliższych! Czy wierzysz i dostrzegasz to że Ci, którzy są wokół Ciebie od dawna: Twój małżonek, Twoje dziecko, krewny, sąsiad, ksiądz, współpracownik może Cię czymś zaskoczyć (i bynajmniej nie w znaczeniu jakiegoś skandalu czy zgorszenia)? Że może Ci przybliżyć Boga, że został przez Boga wyposażony w dary, które mają moc, by ukazać Ci siłę Bożej, przemieniającej miłości? Prośmy Pana w tym tygodniu o otwarte oczy i otwarte serca, które pozwolą się skutecznie zaskoczyć działaniem Boga i bliźnich w naszym życiu. O.Damian SJ

FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Unlike the people whose great faith inspired us last, we hear this week that the message of God's love is sometimes met with rejection and disbelief. It is difficult for us to grasp the immensity of God's great goodness. We cannot comprehend the offer of freedom found in God's love. Ezekiel, Saint Paul, and Jesus all experience the rejection of the prophet who witnesses to this great love of God for us. Ezekiel understands that he is compelled to share God's message, whether people listen or not. Saint Paul accepts that he is a weak vessel, and must bear insults and persecution for the sake of Christ. Jesus knows that the people are astonished at his wisdom, yet they cannot allow themselves to hear him. Unwilling to look beyond the child who grew up in their village, they are not willing to put their faith in him. WEAK OR STRONG? Is your faith weak or strong? Most of us have moments in which our answer could simply be "Yes!" Faith is not a once-and-for-all thing. Our faith ebbs and flows, along with changes in life circumstances, as we mature and grow in relationship with Christ and with one another. Pope Francis speaks to this in The Joy of the Gospel, when he encourages us to be open to an encounter with God's love daily. In these encounters, like the one that the people in the synagogue had with Jesus in today's Gospel, we may be astonished at God's love and are invited to accept it. Weakness in faith is not always the result of some failure on our part. We may simply be at a crossroads, at which we cannot clearly see or understand what comes next. It is at such a time that we step out in blind faith with the assurance that God's love awaits us in every moment. WEAKNESS AND STRENGTH The opposite of strong faith may not be weakness, but rather misplacing faith by relying on ourselves, our material possessions, or others. When we think we can do things on our own, we leave little room for God in our lives. When we develop a false sense of security that is rooted in material things, our trust in Jesus is quite shallow. Growing in faith calls us to rely on God's great goodness above all things. When we open our minds and hearts and allow ourselves to be astonished at the love and life found in Jesus Christ, we realize that we do not need to rely on ourselves. Saint Paul teaches us a very important lesson about this in his second letter to the Corinthians, in which we hear, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness."
