2 Pastor`s Letter / List Ojca Proboszcza Dear parishioners and guests, Drodzy parafianie i goście, In the Acts of the Apostles, Peter reminds us that we have not been given any other name under heaven in which we are saved but the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus has the power to dissipate our darkness, it heals us from our weakness and gives us eternal life. It also defends us against Satan - the enemy of our salvation. It is worth invoking the name of Jesus with the greatest respect and love. In Eastern Christianity, a socalled Jesus prayer is well known. It is based on the constant repetition of the Holy name of Jesus, until it goes deep into our spiritual bloodstream. Eastern monks after many years of prayer with the name of Jesus discovered with amazement that their hearts beat to the rhythm of that name. Jesuit, Franz Jalics, wrote a book a few years ago "Contemplative retreat". He wrote it under the difficult experience. Together with his confrere, they were imprisoned in Argentina by revolutionary forces. For three months, they were locked in a dark and cold room, isolated from the world. There he began to call the name Jesus and pray with that name and thus he kept his inner health and spiritual balance. After 3 months, when the prison was opened, he was in a state of such a deep inner peace that he did not want to leave the place to the astonishment of his persecutors. On the other hand, his confrere was transported to a psychiatric hospital in a state of complete mental breakdown. Let us call the name of Jesus, because in him is our health and defense. There is no other name that can heal us and keep us in peace forever. In him is our health, in him our salvation and our hope. Holy Name of Jesus, have mercy on us! I recommend you to God's mercy Fr. Marek W Dziejach Apostolskich Piotr przypomina nam, że nie dano nam ludziom pod niebem żadnego innego imienia, w którym jesteśmy zbawieni, jak tylko imię Jezus. Imię Jezusa ma moc rozpraszania naszych ciemności, ono uzdrawia nas z naszych słabości i daje nam życie wieczne. Ono nas także broni przed szatanem nieprzyjacielem naszego zbawienia. Warto więc przyzywać imienia Jezusa z największym szacunkiem i miłością. W chrześcijaństwie wschodnim zadomowił się na dobre zwyczaj modlitwy Jezusowej. Polega on na nieustannym powtarzaniu świętego imienia Jezus, aż wejdzie ono głęboko w nasz duchowy krwiobieg. Mnisi wschodni po wielu latach modlitwy imieniem Jezus odkrywali ze zdumieniem, że ich serce biło w rytm tego imienia. Jezuita, Franz Jalics, napisał kilka lat temu książkę pt. Rekolekcje kontemplatywne. Napisał ją pod wpływem trudnego doświadczenia. Wraz ze swoim współbratem zostali uwięzieni w Argentynie przez siły rewolucyjne. Przez 3 miesiące byli zamknięci w ciemnym i zimnym pomieszczeniu, odizolowani od świata. Tam zaczął on przywoływać imienia Jezus i modlić się tym imieniem i dzięki temu zachował wewnętrzne zdrowie i duchowy balans. Po 3 miesiącach, kiedy otworzono więzienie, on znajdował się w stanie tak głębokiego wewnętrznego pokoju, że ku zdumieniu swoich prześladowców nie chciał stamtąd wyjść. Jego współbrat natomiast w stanie kompletnego psychicznego załamania został przewieziony do szpitala psychiatrycznego. Przywołujmy imienia Jezus, gdyż w nim jest nasze zdrowie i obrona. Nie ma innego imienia, które może nas uzdrowić i zachować w pokoju na wieki. W Nim jest nasze zbawienie, w nim nasze ocalenie i nasza nadzieja. Najświętsze Imię Jezusa zmiłuj się nad nami! TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Most languages take the name for this fifty-day season from the Lord's Passover: Pasqua in Italian, Pâques in French, Paach in Dutch, Pascha in Greek and Russian. English has a much newer name, the name of a pagan goddess, Eoster. For centuries before Christianity took hold, in both Germany and Britain the spring equinox was dedicated to her and the concepts of fertility and rebirth. She was said to be a playful spirit, following the Sun King's chariot, and ending the reign of winter. She had a magical companion, a rabbit who hid eggs in the fields to coax plants and animals to rebirth. It was believed that Eoster once came across a bird with broken wings and saved it by turning it into a rabbit--an egg-laying rabbit at that! Although they were baptized, most people didn't take to the new Latin name (Pascha Domini) too easily, and kept calling the spring equinox by the old accustomed name. For good measure, they kept a pagan name for Christmas, too: Yule.

6 FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER SAINT PETER: EXAMPLE FOR ALL What an extraordinary example we have in the person of Saint Peter. On this Good Shepherd it is fitting that the first reading draws our attention to the "rock." The scene depicted in the reading from the Acts of the Apostles contains an example that can be useful to all of us, whether ordained or lay. Notice that after the miracle of the curing of the crippled person, Peter immediately turns everyone's attention not to himself, but to the Lord Jesus Christ. This is what we are called to do when we experience the presence of God in the struggles of our own Christian journeys. Like Saint Peter, we can let other people know that it is only through the power of Christ within each of us that we are able to embrace the cross and experience the power of the Lord's resurrection. ROOTED IN BAPTISM Today gives us the opportunity to take the time to pray for those who lead us in ordained ministry. In this time of crisis in the Church, our bishops, deacons, and priests need our support as they continue to embrace their vocation to do as Saint Peter did-to point others to the Lord. Since all vocations are rooted in the sacrament of baptism, it is good for us to remember that it was at the moment of our baptism that we became Christ for others. Each of us is called to become more and more like the Good Shepherd as we learn to live out our baptismal call. As we make our way along the Christian journey, we need nourishment and guidance from those appointed to be our shepherds. We need to pray that God will strengthen those who have become weary. On this Good Shepherd, let us pray especially for the ordained and all those called to point us to the Lord.
