2 ABOUT THE MALE JP2 ROSARY COMMUNITY In a few sentences, I would like to describe the story of the Male Rosary Community at St. Ladislaus Parish. Personal prayer and conversation with colleagues from work, prompted my thoughts and heart to found a male prayer community that would protect and alleviate tensions and problems in the male heart and marital life. When I was at a retreat, I took a brochure about the first Saturdays of the month in which Our Lady asked for a our prayers for the sins of the world. During the conversation with my friends, I suggested that we should meet and pray together on the first Saturdays of the month. I presented my idea to my spiritual director Fr Damian. He agreed and directed me to our Pastor, Fr. Marek. After talking with Fr. Marek, I received his permission and a blessing to go ahead. The Rosary Community was founded on the first Saturday of February It is currently working and developing under the spiritual care of the Jesuit fathers. At the first meeting there were only two of us, currently the community has almost 20 members. We adopted the name of the Male Rosary Community named after Saint John Paul II. Meetings always begin with Holy Mass at 8:15am, with a sermon for Men. After Mass, we meet at St. John Paul II chapel, we pray the rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet and a prayer to the Holy Spirit. Prayer is conducted both in Polish and English. After the prayer, we meet at a shared breakfast at the convent, where we conduct conversations enriching each other spiritually. We organize retreat and recreation trips under the leadership of Fr. Damian and actively spend time: we fish, play golf, table tennis, etc. In conclusion, I would like to thank the Jesuit Fathers, Father Marek and Father Damian for taking care of our community. I thank all those who come to prayer and are committed to building our Rosary Community. I encourage all men to pray together and invite you to join our community. All are welcome! God bless you Michał Kulik O MĘSKIEJ WSPÓLNOCIE RÓŻAŃCOWEJ JP2 W kilku zdaniach chciałbym opisać historie założenia Męskiej Wspólnoty Różańcowej przy Parafii św. Władysława. Modlitwa osobista oraz rozmowa z kolegami z pracy, skłoniła moje myśli i serce ku założeniu męskiej wspólnoty modlitwy, która by chroniła i łagodziła napięcia i problemy w męskim sercu oraz życiu małżeńskim. Gdy byłem na rekolekcjach wziąłem broszurkę o uczczeniu pierwszych sobót miesiąca, w której Matka Boża prosiła o modlitwę wynagradzającą za grzechy świata. Podczas rozmowy z kolegami zaproponowałem, abyśmy się spotykali i modlili w pierwsze Soboty miesiaca. Przedstawiłem swój pomysł kierownikowi duchownemu o. Damianowi. On wyraził zgodę i skierował mnie do naszego proboszcza o. Marka. Po rozmowie z O. Markiem dostałem pozwolenie i błogosławieństwo na formowanie wspólnoty przy naszej parafii. Wspólnota Różańcowa powstała w pierwszą Sobotę miesiąca lutego Obecnie działa i rozwija się pod duchową opieką ojców Jezuitów. Na pierwszym spotkaniu było nas tylko dwóch, obecnie wspólnota liczy prawie 20 członków. Przyjęliśmy nazwę Męska Wspólnota Różańcowa imienia Św. Jana Pawla II. Spotkania rozpoczynają się zawsze Mszą Świętą o godzinie 8:15 rano, z kazaniem dla Mężczyzn. Po Mszy spotykamy się przy kaplicy Św. Jana Pawła II, odmawiamy różaniec, koronkę do Miłosierdzia Bożego oraz modlitwę do Ducha Świętego. Modlitwa prowadzona jest po Polsku i Angielsku. Po modlitwie spotykamy się na wspólnym śniadaniu w konwencie, gdzie prowadzimy rozmowy wzbogacające nas duchowo. Organizujemy wyjazdy rekolekcyjnorekreacyjne, pod przewodnictwem o. Damiana i aktywnie spędzamy czas: łowimy ryby, gramy w golfa czy tenisa stołowego. Na zakończenie chciałbym podziękować Ojcom Jezuitom, o. Markowi i o. Damianowi za opiekę nad naszą wspólnotą. 5 TEOTIHUACAN - JEDEN Z NAJWAŻNIEJSZYCH ZABYTKÓW EPOKI PREKOLUMBIJSKIEJ W MEKSYKU -PIRAMIDA SŁOŃCA ORAZ PIRAMIDA KSIĘŻYCA, Stanowisko archeologiczne położone jest na północny wschód od miasta Meksyk, na centralnym płaskowyżu. Jego nazwa, pochodząca z języka nahuatl oznacza miejsce, w którym ludzie stają się bogami. Powstawało prawdopodobnie w okresie od II w. p.n.e. do II w. n.e., a jego rozkwit przypada na IV-VII w. Teotihuacan zostało zniszczone częściowo podczas pożaru i nie powróciło już do dawnej świetności. Spadkobiercami tej kultury zostali Toltekowie i Aztekowie. Dziś turyści mogą podziwiać w tym miejscu Piramidę Słońca oraz Piramidę Księżyca, ruiny świątyni i pomieszczeń kapłańskich oraz Cytadelę ze świątynią Quetzalcoatla. W Teotihuacan odnaleziono również malowidła ścienne, ceramikę oraz kamienne maski rytualne. Piramida Księżyca (hiszp. Pirámide de la Luna) piramida położona w starożytnym mieście Teotihuacán w Meksyku. Jest drugą co do wielkości budowlą w mieście, po Piramidzie Słońca i jedną z najstarszych w Mezoameryce. Zbudowana została przy Alei Zmarłych, która razem z Piramidą Słońca i Cytadelą otoczoną mniejszymi świątyniami tworzy centrum kultowe miasta Piramidę wzniesiono między 200 a 450 rokiem n.e. Na jej szczycie znajdowała się platforma, na której odprawiano ceremonie poświęcone Wielkiej Bogini Teotihuacan, opiekunce wody, ziemi i urodzaju. Przed piramidą rozciąga się Plac Księżyca z centralnym ołtarzem i kamiennymi, prostokątnymi konstrukcjami tworzącymi tak zwany Krzyż Teotihuacan

7 WHOSE SON ARE YOU, ANYWAY? In rhetorical speech, which includes preaching and teaching, three elements are important: the mythos, or the message; the logos, or the words used; and the ethos, or the qualifications of the speaker. The message may be clear, the words may be elegant and persuasive, but if the speaker is not seen as someone who is qualified to speak on the subject, the speech will not be convincing. In today's Gospel, the people are questioning Jesus' credentials. "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph?" (John 6:42). "He's a local boy, where did he get this knowledge?" Jesus answers them with his teaching about God as true Father. If you know who your teacher is, you know what your message should be. Jesus' important words about the Eucharist are grounded in his self-knowledge as "the one who is from God" (John 6:46). Those who are from God know God and listen to the word of God. They will recognize Jesus as speaking, doing, and being that Word. The ethos of the hearer is on the line as well. TAUGHT BY GOD The people who know God as "Father," that is, intimately and in deep and loving relationship, will recognize Jesus as the One who reveals God to us, even if the message is challenging. For any speech to be understood and accepted, there has to be an audience, and that audience has to hear, understand, and be able to accept what is being said. Jesus makes the point that if we know God, as he does, we will see and understand that, just as God fed the people in the desert, God feeds us and sustains us with the Bread of Life, the Eucharist, which is Christ the Lord. He is not only the speaker, but the word and the message as well. This Bread is the gift of a loving and faithful God who gave us life and sustains it. TODAY'S READINGS: 1 KINGS 19:4-8; PSALM 34:2-9; TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Careful readers of the "Treasures" will have noticed that the two columns about the oldest monastic communities in the United States refer to the colonial states. The Louisiana Purchase gained a great treasure for our nation, the Ursuline monastery of New Orleans. Among the greatest pioneers of that city were nuns who came from France on a perilous voyage in 1727, pestered by pirates and tossed by fearsome storms. These were genteel, well-educated Ursulines, yet their first task was to roll up their sleeves and open a hospital to care for the pestilenceridden colony. Next, they opened a school for girls and launched a plan to educate the women being shipped over from France to marry settlers. In this way, they had enormous influence in molding patterns of family and domestic life. At Christmastime in 1814, the threat of a British assault on the city was growing. On the terrifying night of January 7, 1815, the women of New Orleans gathered in the monastery chapel to pray that the city be spared from destruction in battle. The mother superior made a vow to have a Mass of Thanksgiving on that date every year should the Americans win. That night, Our Lady of Prompt Succor, to whom the nuns had great devotion, became the protector and patron of this great city. The convent in the French Quarter is the oldest standing building in the Mississippi valley, and the only surviving building of the French colonial period. The nuns relocated in 1824, but their old monastery is preserved as a museum and archives for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The school the nuns began, Ursuline Academy, is the oldest continuously operating Catholic school, and school for women, in the United States.
