Jadwigi. Ostatnie wydanie gazety diecezjalnej Long IslandCatholic wzbudziło we mnie kilka refleksji na temat Kościoła i obecnego okresu w Kościele Katolickim jakim jest Wielki Post. Jeden z artykułów How can I do Lent better nakreśla nam kilka wskazówek na Wielki Post. To wszystko należy poprzeć naszą modlitwą, np. Droga Krzyżowa, Czytanie Pisma Świętego. FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Hedwig s Church. The last edition of the diocesan newspaper "Long Island Catholic" has caused me to have few reflections about the Church and the current period in the Catholic Church which is Lent. One of the articles "How can I do Lent better" draws some tips for Lent. The first step at the beginning of Lent is to: Present our efforts to Christ. Ask Christ for help, open your heart to him, share your doubts and present hope with him. The second step is: Confession. It is an opportunity to say to Jesus, "Take away all the garbage and fill my emptiness with Your Mercy." The third step will be: Change our attitude. We need to approach Lent with with a mental attitude that we don t get to define a succesfull Lent. Why do we do this? Because our idea of success is so much different than God s. The fourth step will be:lent. The point is not just to not eat meat on Fridays, but also to be able to give up something during Lent. You can also fast from the Internet, TV and other things. All this should be supported by our prayer, or reading of the Holy Bible. Your Pastor, Fr Peter Wasz Ksiądz Proboszcz Ks.Piotr
CROATIA, SLOVENIA & THE ADRIATIC COAST Our parish is planning a trip in September to Croatia, Slovenia and the Adriatic Coast. If you are interested in the trip, please take a brochure home with you, located at the entrance of the church, and let us know if you are planning to join us. We are taking reservations now and until the beginning of March. Call Barbara, at the rectory, if you are interested in going on this trip. Amen Let us pray to the Lord for all those who have been affected by the school shooting in Parkland: for all who have died, have been wounded and also for those who are mourning. Let us pray for grace to be a living sign of God's healing and consolation. Let us pray that by His grace we will turn all hearts away from violence and vengeance. Amen COME JOIN US IN 2020 TO SEE The Passion Play of Oberammergau Drawing crowds from all over the world, the Passion Play of Oberammergau is a musical drama of epic dimensions and regarded as the longest running play in history. THE JOURNEY, CROSS & CRUCIFIXION On Sunday, March 9 th at 8.00 PM, our Parish is hosting a performance of The Journey, Cross & Crucifixion. Travel back in time to experience the Stations of the Cross in a profound way through this live theatrical production, which includes music, drama and narration. Presented by Creative Ministries, a non-for-profit organization committed to the advancement of Arts Education on Long Island. Free Will Offering. THE OBEDIENCE OF ABRAHAM AND JESUS God tested Abraham by asking not for an ordinary sacrifice, which would have been a partial burning with the meat divided between God and the people and eaten by those who sacrificed, but for a holocaust, a total burning of the sacrificial animal. This type of sacrifice consecrated the entire offering to God alone. This is what God was asking of Abraham in offering his only son, Isaac. When Abraham demonstrated his obedience, that was enough. This story from today s scriptures foretells the completion of the blood sacrifices of the old covenant in the new covenant: the blood of God s own Son, offered to us on the cross and in the Eucharist. Abraham s obedience foreshadows the obedience of Jesus to God s promise of salvation. The obedience of Abraham is rewarded in the birth to him, through Isaac, of many nations. The obedience of Jesus is rewarded in the salvation of all people for all time. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. WYJAZD DO PENSYLVANII Jezus w Teatrze Millenium Parafia Sw. St. Hedwig"s Faith Formation Program The goal of participation in this program is to prepare oneself, as practicing Catholics, to receive the sacraments. Being Catholic is a lifelong endeavor and involves much more than receiving a select number of sacraments. It is a process that continues through one s life and ideally should reflect in one s daily life. Please come and join us Our class program is held on Thursday: Grades 1-5 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm Grades 6-8 from 6:15pm to 7:20pm Lent During Lent, we are asked to devote ourselves to seeking the Lord in prayer and reading Scripture, to service by giving alms, and to sacrifice self-control through fasting. Many know of the tradition of abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent, but we are also called to practice self-discipline and fast in other ways throughout the season. Contemplate the meaning and origins of the Lenten fasting tradition in this reflection. In addition, the giving of alms is one way to share God's gifts not only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our time and talents. As St. John Chrysostom reminds us: "Not to enable the poor to share in our goods is to steal from them and deprive them of life. The goods we possess are not ours, but theirs." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2446). In Lent, the baptized are called to renew their baptismal commitment as others prepare to be baptized through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a period of learning and discernment for individuals who have declared their desire to become Catholics. The key to fruitful observance of these practices is to recognize their link to baptismal renewal. We are called not just to abstain from sin during Lent, but to true conversion of our hearts and minds as followers of Christ. We recall those waters in which we were baptized into Christ's death, died to sin and evil, and began new life in Christ.
