2 MISSION AT ST. LADISLAUS CHURCH. AUGUST REV.ANTHONY ENYIMFUL. On -August 7th, we will hold PACZKI SALE. Sale will take place after each Mass by church entrance. All proceeds will benefit St. Ladislaus Parish. Father Anthony Enyinful is a diocesan priest from the Archdiocese of Cape Coast in Ghana.He is currently assisting at Holy Family Parish in Staten Island in the Archdiocese of New York. The Archdiocese of Cape Coast is coterminous with the Central Region of Ghana. It covers a surface area of 9,826 km² ; and has a population of 2,201,863 (2010 Census). Out of this population, 349,905 are Catholics, with the rest being Protestants (mainline and Evangelical), Muslims, Members of Independent Churches and Followers of traditional religion. Although it is the first and the oldest ecclesiastical circumscription (Vicariate, Diocese, Archdiocese) in Ghana, the Archdiocese of Cape Coast nevertheless is now the Metropolitan See of the smallest Ecclesiastical Province. 6 GARŚĆ UWAG DO CZYTAŃ NA XIX NIEDZIELĘ ZWYKŁĄ W okresie urlopowym uciekamy od spraw, które nas nużą, takich jak praca, nauka, kłopoty. Pragniemy odpoczywać pełną piersią i nie myśleć o problemach dnia powszedniego. Ale przecież można znaleźć czas na przewertowanie ksiąg Pisma świętego, a wtedy znajdziemy fragmenty pasujące do naszych czasów, do nas, zarówno do okoliczności, z którymi mamy do czynienia, jak i do sytuacji, które nas niejednokrotnie zaskakują. Każdy wers Pisma świętego przypomina nam o powinnościach nakładanych na nas przez wiarę, nakładanych na nas dlatego, że jesteśmy Ludem Bożym. To przypomina nam o radości z życia w komunii z Chrystusem, zaś to, że poprzez chrzest zostajemy włączeni w rodzinę Kościoła, a co za tym idzie, że stajemy się Jego członkami, powoduje, iż nad wieloma sprawami musimy się poważnie zastanowić, by podjąć decyzję zgodną z sumieniem, a nie decyzję przynoszącą nam chwilowe korzyści. Apostoł Narodów, św. Paweł, w Liście do Hebrajczyków poucza ich, a zarazem i nas: Wiara zaś jest poręką tych dóbr, których się spodziewamy, dowodem tych rzeczywistości, których nie widzimy. (Hbr 11,1). Tak więc na naszą zwyczajną pracę i czynności, które wykonujemy, musimy patrzeć z wiarą, tzn. wykonywać wszystko tak, jakby to sam Chrystus robił, i tak, jak On sobie życzy, by było wykonane. Podając przykłady Jakuba, Izaaka, Sary, pokazuje nam, jak nasi przodkowie wykonywali swoje obowiązki bądź jak oczekiwali, trwając w wierze. W Ewangelii świętego Łukasza Jezus opowiada nam o życiu w bliskości Boga, jednocześnie dając nam do zrozumienia, że nigdy nie poznamy dnia ani godziny, kiedy nastąpi Paruzja, kiedy zostaniemy wezwani do zdania relacji ze swojego życia oraz zadań, które zostały nam dane i zlecone przez Boga. Nie ma znaczenia, czy to będzie praca fizyczna, umysłowa, powołanie do zawodu czy do służby, w tym kościelnej, z wszystkich naszych działań będziemy musieli zdać sprawę. Pamiętać jedynie musimy, że Komu wiele dano, od tego wiele wymagać się będzie; a komu wiele zlecono, tym więcej od niego żądać będą. 7 Nineteenth in Ordinary Time TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Last week's "Treasure" noted that the official headgear of the pope, the tiara, has been set aside in favor of the miter. Although Pope Paul VI had a coronation in 1963 to begin his ministry as pope, he later gave his tiara away to the Catholics of the United States as a stimulus to end poverty. He took care to say that he was not abolishing the tradition of coronation, but his successor, Pope John Paul I, decided to have an inauguration to begin his tragically short term. His successors have chosen inauguration as well. Pope John Paul II felt that a return to the coronation custom would be inappropriate since the Church was mourning the sudden death of a man already nicknamed "The Laughing Pope." So the end of coronations came about not because Paul VI gave the crown away. There are more than twenty tiaras on hand at the Vatican. One is used every year to crown the famous statue of St. Peter, whose sandaled foot has been eroded to a bright shine by the hands of millions of pilgrims. Today, it is left to the individual pope to decide whether he will begin his formal reign with a coronation or an inauguration. Pope Benedict chose an inauguration, as did Pope Francis. Faith and hope are closely united in today's readings. The Israelites knew when the Passover was coming, and so were not in fear, but had faith and courage, "putting into effect with one accord the divine institution." In this we can see a foretelling of the Eucharist that we celebrate according to Christ's command, "Do this in memory of me." We see that Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, and Jacob died in faith, although they did not see fulfillment of the promise. We live in hope that our faith will be fulfilled every time we celebrate this sacrament. We too are not to be afraid, but to have hope that our faith will be fulfilled in the coming of Christ. FAITH AND HOPE Our faith consists in hoping for what we do not see. For if we knew what was coming, we would not be hoping, but living in knowledge. We hope in Christ for the coming of the reign of God, the restoration of all things good and wonderful, and our promised salvation. All anxiety can be dispelled in the simple words of Jesus, "Do not be afraid any longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom." What words could be more encouraging at those times when we wonder if we are being the diligent stewards or the bad stewards of what has been entrusted to us? BAD MANAGEMENT Anyone who has reached the age of work has probably experienced what it is like to work under a bad manager. Perhaps that person just does not know how to encourage productivity in a way that is kind and understanding and not abusive. Perhaps that person is just a bully, causing discouragement and poor morale among workers, so that many quit because they just can't stand it. Perhaps that manager does not know how to manage unproductive and disruptive people in the office, or others who are the office bullies. That steward "begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, to eat and drink and get drunk." But every manager also has a boss. And here Christ is the Master who will come at an unexpected time, and if he finds the manager not working well and unworthy of trust, he will apply appropriate sanctions. Christ will come at a time when we do not know; we place our faith and our hope in his mercy. But when we doubt ourselves we have those words of Jesus, assuring us that the Father has already given us the kingdom. We need not be afraid. We need only be mindful of Christ's mercy, and conduct ourselves in a way that is kind, gentle, and generous to others. We can indeed have hope. Today's Readings: Wis 18:6-9; Ps 33:1, 12, 18-22; Heb 11:1-2, 8-19 [1-2, 8-12]; Lk 12:32-48 [35-40] JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY Nineteenth in Ordinary Time Last 's "Parable of the rich fool" delivered a compelling reason to do the right thing--now: "You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you" (Luke 12:20). Today, Jesus warns us: "You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come" (12:40). Though we do not know when our Master will come, we do know what our Master expects to find. Jesus expects us to be vigilant (12:37) and diligent (12:42) in our work for the kingdom, but also filled with reverent mercy toward our fellow servants and ourselves. Hopefully, Jesus' warning not to get drunk and beat each other up (12:45) does not apply to us literally! But what changes do I need to make, right now, so that the many people outside "the Master's house" will want to come inside to experience the healing comfort of Jesus' own mercy in the compassion of Jesus' modern-day disciples?
