EASTER proves that love can never be permanently crucified but ultimately triumphs over hate. Let us rejoice for the Risen Lord is with us. We are not alone. Though suffering comes into our lives at different times, we are not defeated by it. For nothing can separate us from our VICTORIOUS LORD! May the PEACE of Christ s Resurrection be with you! Page Four March 23, 2008 DIVINE MERCY next Sunday, March 30, 2008 Prayer is the most powerful force in the world. Many of us are confused and discouraged by attitudes and happenings that seem beyond our control. As we strive to have more and more possessions we see family values breaking down. In many of us, faith is tepid. When we become lukewarm in our faith, we can easily become "supermarket" Christians, taking the things we like from our faith and leaving the more difficult demands of faith behind. We can allow all kinds of evil to thrive. It can become overwhelming. Prayer is the most powerful force in the world. What would happen if thousands of us prayed at the same time? Many of us have seen the "Passion of the Christ" this Lent. We can't help but be moved by Jesus who died on the cross for our forgiveness and salvation. We can be inspired by Jesus who even forgave those who put him to death. He was a true man. His faith was anything but "lukewarm." We are called to be like Jesus. So, what can we do? We can PRAY. What would happen if thousands of us would pray for and end to abortion? For an end to terrorism? For an end to lukewarm faith? Let's do it! I'm asking you to make a pledge. It has two parts. The first is to pray the Rosary on Good Friday... for an end to abortion, an end to terrorism, an end to domestic and any kind of violence, an end to lukewarm faith. The second is to begin the Divine Mercy Novena, nine days of special prayers for God's mercy upon those who need it the most. When Jesus gave Saint Faustina the intentions to pray for he said about the lukewarm and indifferent, "These souls cause Me more suffering than any others; it was from such souls that My soul felt the most revulsion in the Garden of Olives. It was on their account that I said: 'My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass Me by.' The last hope of salvation for them is to flee to My Mercy." In her diary, St. Faustina wrote that Jesus told her: "On each day of the novena you will bring to My heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy... On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls." REJOICE AND BE GLAD This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad (Psalm 118:24). Let us remember that these words of today s responsorial psalm are not only sung from the hearts of those gathered in our parish. They are also sung by the poor in tiny barrios throughout Central and South America. They are sung by those denied religious freedom in our world; these Christians lift their voices in clandestine places of worship. These words are sung by people who have lost loved ones to acts of terrorism and war around the globe. Even in the midst of conflict and division, Christians still come together to declare that poverty, loneliness, violence, and division will never, ever have as much power as the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Indeed, let us rejoice this day and be glad! Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. Page Six March 23, 2008 Easter Sunday Today s Readings: Acts 10:34a, 37 43; Psalm 118:1 2, 16 17, 22 23; Colossians 3:1 4 or 1 Corinthians 5:6b 8; John 20:1 9 or Matthew 28:1 10 REMEMBERING BAPTISM Each year we celebrate a ritual that the Church prescribes for use specifically on Easter Sunday. At Masses on Easter we are called to renew our baptismal promises. We once again renounce Satan and profess our belief in God, as well as acknowledge all the wonderful works that God has done throughout salvation history. We do so at this central point of the liturgical year for one major reason. Once a year, after the penitential practices of Lent, we remember that at the moment of our baptism, we were configured to Jesus Christ, who lived, died, and rose to save the world from the power of sin. This remembrance of our baptism is much more than the kind of remembering we do when we flip through a family photo album or review digital pictures of a recent vacation or family event. The remembrance we celebrate today through the renewal of baptismal promises reminds us that we are commissioned to be the risen Christ for others here and now. BECOMING THE RISEN CHRIST Through the renewal of our baptismal promises we remember that in baptism we were joined to Christ s death and resurrection. What we can easily forget is that in baptism we were also joined to the life that Christ lived while on earth. We need not look too far to discover that the Lord Jesus came to call sinners to himself in order to share with them the wonderful gifts of forgiveness and salvation. Through our own baptism, we are called to imitate Christ. We are to let people know that, in and through Jesus Christ, true forgiveness and reconciliation are possible. As we lift heart and voice, singing the words of today s responsorial psalm, let us rejoice and be glad that in our baptism we have become the risen Christ for the world.
