pastor`s letter /list ojca proboszcza Dear parishioners and guests, Pope Francis in his message for Lent reminds us, that the heart of the Gospel is love. Love is also the deepest sense of our live and the greatest desire of our hearts. Each of us wants to love and be loved, everyone wants to be accepted as he/she is, with his limitations and weaknesses. God just accepts and loves us as we are, He does not set conditions, but invites us to return and stay close to Him and each other. God wants to meet us, warm our cold hearts and give us back the joy, which we have lost by sinning. That is why we need to look at Lent, not as an unpleasant duty or a burden to be endured, but as at time given to us by God and an invitation to sincere friendship and communion with Him. All penitential practices that we undertake should have one goal - Love! Fasting is not a school of self-improvement, a time to prove to myself and others how pious and ascetic I am, but it is a way to die in my egoism and a greater opening of my heart to my fellowmen. It is not enough to give up sweets or smoking for Lent and continue to be unpleasant to your loved ones at home. What is killing and torturing us most is our egoism - constant circling around ourselves and our own needs. It kills mutual relations, ravages marital and family ties, gives rise to deep sadness and a sense of life's failure. Man becomes a slave to his own needs and temporary desires, and yet, in his heart he feels more and more emptiness and longing for true life. Jesus wants to offer us a true life and therefore gives us the time of fasting. By giving us this time, He also prepares for us specific graces that He wants to give us. Jesus wants to go with us through this time, He wants to fight with us and share with us the joy of victory. All this to make us more human, compassionate, loving and thus happier. Bóg właśnie takich nas przyjmuje i kocha, nie stawia warunków, ale zaprasza do powrotu i bliskości ze sobą. Bóg pragnie się z nami spotkać, by ogrzać nasze oziębłe serca i przywrócić nam utraconą przez grzech radość. Dlatego trzeba nam spojrzeć na Wielki Post, nie jako na przykry obowiązek i ciężar, który trzeba znieść, ale jako na podarowany nam przez Boga czas i zaproszenie do serdecznej przyjaźni i komunii z Nim. Wszystkie podejmowane przez nas praktyki pokutne powinny mieć jeden cel Miłość! Post to nie szkoła samodoskonalenia siebie, prężenia duchowych muskułów, by udowodnić sobie i innym jaki to ja jestem pobożny i ascetyczny, ale to droga do umierania w swoim egoizmie i większego otwarcia serca dla bliźnich. Nie wystarczy rzucić słodycze czy palenie na czas Postu a w domu dalej być przykrym dla swoich bliskich. To, co nas zabija i najbardziej męczy to nasz egoizm nieustanne krążenie wokół siebie i własnych potrzeb. To uśmierca wzajemne relacje, pustoszy więzy małżeńskie i rodzinne, rodzi głęboki smutek i poczucie życiowej porażki. Człowiek staje się niewolnikiem własnych potrzeb, popędów i chwilowych upodobań a w głębi serca czuje coraz większą pustkę i tęsknotę za prawdziwym życiem. Jezus chce nam ofiarować prawdziwe życie i dlatego daje nam czas Postu. Dając nam ten czas, przygotowuje dla nas też konkretne łaski, które pragnie nam dać. Jezus pragnie z nami przejść przez ten czas, chce z nami walczyć i z nami dzielić radość zwycięstwa. Gorzkie Żale 'Lenten (or Bitter) Lamentations') is a Catholic devotion containing many hymns that developed out of Poland in the 18th century. The devotion is primarily a sung reflection and meditation on the Passion of Christ and the sorrows of His Blessed Mother. The devotion consists of a three-part cycle, subdivided into five unique parts. One part of the cycle is held on each in the period of Lent, including Palm, and the entire ceremony is held on Good Friday. The devotion originated in Holy Cross Church in Warsaw and from there it spread to whole of Poland. Fr. Bartholomew Tarlo CM, pastor of Holy Cross Parish and first Visitor of Province of Poland acknowledged the importance of this devotion, which featured melodies on the Passion of Christ. TRAINING Those who wish to hold the fortress of contemplation must first of all train in the camp of action. Pope St. Gregory the Great He ordered to rearrange the songs into a structured liturgical order. The confreres used the structure of the Baroque Divine Office as a pattern. They based the devotion on the morning hour of "Matins" (nowadays it might be similar to Office of Readings) and the Laudes, or "Lauds" prayer. Fr. Benik looked at old Gregorian chorales to arrange the music, but he kept the original folklore character of the melodies. Specialists can find similarities to Gregorian hymnals and chorales. Fr. Lawrence Benik CM described how the devotion should be celebrated. Since the beginning it took place on s of the Lent after either High Mass or Vespers.In late 18th century some liturgical elements were added making the structure very much like the present one: the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at the beginning, the singing of the three parts of the hymnals and songs; followed by an occasional sermon called the Passion Sermon. After that there was a procession with candles around the church. Finally the celebrant blessed worshipers with the Blessed Sacrament.
FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT Usually, the first reading has something in common with the gospel. Today s however, has more in common with the second reading from St. Peter. They both talk about Noah and the ark, where the few good people were saved by going through the water. Peter compares that to the waters of Baptism, in which we are saved by God. He also has an interesting image of Jesus preaching to the spirits in prison. It refers to the fallen angels whose disobedience lead the rest of the population to turn away from God. Just as God washed away the evil of the world in the waters of the flood, so the waters of Baptism made us into a new people who have clear consciences, both because God has forgiven our sins and because we promise to follow only Him. That leads to the Gospel, where Jesus is tempted by Satan. But unlike the people of Noah s time, Jesus does not fall to the temptations. Instead, he comes out of the desert, proclaiming that the Kingdom of God is near. He tells us to repent and believe in the good news. That means we have a choice to make: Do we accept this kingdom and repent, or do we ignore our baptism and do what we want? We may say that we are willing to repent, but do we do anything about it? Do we still have a clear conscience when we think of how much time we spend getting to know Jesus? Ever pray or read the bible outside of church? Do we spend near as much on the poor, as we do for movies, hobbies, video games, or drinks? Do we ever tell anyone about the kingdom and what Jesus has done for us? Next time you see a rainbow, think about the covenant that God made with Noah. Just as God s promises get better and better till the coming of Jesus, we are challenged to be more and more like Him. Are you satisfied with just a promise that God won t destroy us all in a flood? Or are you ready to live the New Covenant that Jesus promises to those who will follow him? Chodzi tu o nabożeństwa wielkopostne, jako formy ciągłego przypominania o miłości Bożej względem człowieka; miłości, która oddała się na krzyżu za nasze grzechy. Relacja o tej miłości, tak pieczołowicie przechowywana w sercu Matki Jezusa, zachowała się w przekazach biblijnych, i jako taka była przedmiotem medytacji mnichów i ojców pustyni. Z czasem jednak w postaci uproszczonej i ludowej stała się treścią specjalnych nabożeństw wielkopostnych: rozważania Drogi krzyżowej Jezusa Chrystusa krzewione przez zakony żebracze (XII w.), oraz pobożne rozpamiętywania Męki Pańskiej w postaci tzw. Gorzkich żali zachowanych wyjątkowo w polskiej religijności od XVIII w. Róbmy wszystko, abyśmy w okresie Wielkiego Postu, w który wkraczamy po raz kolejny tego roku, wykorzystali czas nam dany i stworzyli atmosferę pustyni w naszym sercu. Wspierajmy się przy tym ogniem miłości, która pchnęła Syna Bożego na krzyż.
