Mikołajem Uroczystość Jezusa Chrystusa Króla Wszechświata Uroczystość Chrystusa Króla do liturgii wprowadził papież Pius XI encykliką Quas Primas z 11 grudnia 1925 r. na zakończenie roku jubileuszowego. Nakazał wtedy, aby we wszystkich kościołach tego dnia po głównym nabożeństwie przed wystawionym Najświętszym Sakramentem odmówić litanię do Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa oraz akt poświęcenia rodzaju ludzkiego Najświętszemu Sercu. Początkowo uroczystość obchodzono w ostatnią niedzielę października; reforma soborowa przeniosła jej termin na ostatnią niedzielę roku liturgicznego. Uroczystość ta ma nam uświadomić, że Chrystus jest Królem całego stworzenia - wszechświata. Jego panowanie nie wynika z jakichś dokonań, z wybrania czy z wywalczenia tej godności. On jest Królem, bo jest Bogiem-Człowiekiem, Stworzycielem i Odkupicielem. Z tego właśnie tytułu ma absolutną władzę. Bóg nie tylko stworzył świat, ale ciągle go stwarza i nim włada. St. Mary s Parish News November 26, 2017 The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King Matthew 25:31-46 Jesus teaches that when the Son of Man comes in glory, he will judge the nations, separating the sheep from the goats. Background on the Gospel Reading Today s Gospel passage is the conclusion of Jesus discourse with his disciples. It is about the end of time, the coming of the Son of Man, and the final judgment. We hear this description of the final judgment at the conclusion of our liturgical year, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King. In the context of Matthew s Gospel, this passage might also be read as a conclusion of Matthew s report on Jesus life and ministry; the remaining chapters report the events of Jesus Passion and Resurrection. In today s Gospel, Jesus describes to his disciples the scene of the judgment of the Son of Man. All the nations will be assembled before him, and he will separate them as a shepherd separates sheep and goats upon their return from the pasture. The judgments made by the Son of Man will be based upon the acts of mercy shown to the least ones the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the ill, and the imprisoned. Indeed, Jesus, who suffered on the Cross, identifies himself with the least ones. Recall that last week s parable of the talents taught us that the gifts that we have been given are intended to be used for the service of others, especially the least among us. Our judgment before God will be based not only on how we have used these gifts and talents, but also on how we have extended ourselves in service to these least ones. Indeed, Jesus tells us that whenever we have served these least ones, we have served Christ himself. When we read today s Gospel in the context of the chapters that follow in Matthew s Gospel, we learn the extent to which Jesus identifies with the least ones. In accepting death on the cross, Jesus shows himself to be one of the hungry, the naked, the ill, and the imprisoned. He often followed John the Baptist and listened to his teachings. One day, John saw Jesus walking along the road. John said to his followers, Behold the Lamb of God. He told his followers to go and talk to Jesus. He wanted them to know that Jesus was the One for whom they had been waiting. Andrew and another disciple followed Jesus and spent an afternoon with him. Early the next day Andrew found Simon Peter, his older brother, and told him, We have found the Messiah. Both men gave up their work as fishermen to become apostles of Jesus. Andrew was one of the first to be called. He seemed to take delight in bringing others to Jesus. Andrew was the one who told Jesus about the little boy who had the loaves of bread and the fish, the beginning of a meal that fed more than five thousand people. It was Andrew and Philip whom the Greeks approached when they wanted to see Jesus. These events indicate that Andrew was a man who was easy to approach, a man you could trust. Like the other apostles, Andrew became a missionary. He preached about Jesus in the area around the Black Sea. Tradition tells us he preached in northern Greece, Turkey, and Scythia (now the southern part of Russia). Andrew died as a martyr. Tradition says that in Patras in Greece he was tied to a cross shaped like the letter X. Ever since then, a cross in the shape of an X has been called St. Andrew s cross. The name Andrew is a Greek name meaning courageous or manly. St. Andrew lived up to his name.
