An ttempt ws lso mde to detet reltionship etween severl different iohemil prmeters of uttings, s influened y tretments, nd the susequent rhizogenesis MATERIAL AND METHODS The experiments were rried out in 9 nd in ommeril nursery of M.M. Kryt in Wol Prżmowsk on two ultivrs of Cornus l Aure nd Elegntissim. In oth yers the single node uttings were prepred from shoots freshly hrvested from stok plnts on July. For the type of uttings used in the trils this dte ws found optiml in preliminry experiments rried out erlier. Leves on uttings were ut in hlf to redue trnspirtion during rooting. AlgminoPlnt ws used s.% wter solution. A pressure hnd spryer ( dm - volume) ws used to spry the uttings with the iostimultor solution until run-off. The uttings were spryed one (July ), twie (July nd 8) or three times (July, 8 nd ), depending on tretment (t. ). Auxins were pplied in the form of ommerilly ville rooting powders: Ukorzeniz AB ontining.% NAA or Rhizopon AA (% IBA), diretly to the ses of uttings. Beuse of the poor results otined in 9 with Ukorzeniz AB nd its unertin legisltive sitution this rooting powder ws omitted from the seond-yer experiment. The seond powder (Rhizopone AA) remined s it registrtion dte expires lter thn tht of Ukorzeniz nd it ontins IBA the uxin of less drsti tion. Sprying uttings with the wter solution of IBA ( mg dm - ) ws introdued insted s nother referene tretment to ompre the iopreprtion effiieny. Triplite extrts were prepred for eh nlysis nd three mesurements were done for eh extrt giving nine redings for eh dt point. For the dry mtter ontent, g smples were dried t o C to onstnt weight [Strzelek et l. 98]. Chlorophyll ontent ws nlyzed ording to Morgn nd Porth [98] with the modifition of Inskeep nd Bloom [98]. Reduing sugrs were determined y the olorimetri method of Somogyi in the Nelson s modifition [Nelson 9] nd free mino ids were mesured ording to Rosen [97]. To ompre the mens, rooting perentges were trnsformed ording to Bliss [Wójik nd Ludński 989] while the y root trnsformtion: y = x + (x + ) sujeted to ANOVA nd tested y the Dunn s test t α =.. Results of nlyses were sujeted to the -ftoril ANOVA nd the mens were ompred y the Dunn s test t α =.. RESULTS A single-ftoril nlysis of vrine showed signifint effet of the tretments in 9 on root ll development nd perentge of rooted uttings in oth dogwood ultivrs: Aure nd Elegntissim. C. l Aure. Less thn % of the untreted ontrol uttings produed roots during 6 weeks of the experiment nd their root lls were not formed. Applition of the ommeril powders did not enhned rhizogenesis, on the ontrry, Rhizopon AA signifintly deresed perentge of rooted uttings. A joint pplition of the powders nd the iopreprtion AlgminoPlnt slightly ut signifintly improved the rooting: perentge of the rooted uttings in se of Rhizopon AA nd the in se of Ukorzeniz AB. The est effets were oserved when the iopreprtion ws used lone, espeilly if pplied twie on uttings: this tretment inresed the perentge of rooted uttings to nerly 8%, positively ffeting s well the root ll forming. All three tretments with AlgminoPlnt were etter thn the ommeril powders (fig. ). In the positive effet of Algminoplnt on rhizogenesis ws onfirmed (fig. ): the est perentge of rooting ws otined fter the twofold sprying with the iopreprtion douled s ompred to the ontrol uttings. This tretment signifintly improved s well the root ll development (expressed s ), similrly s tretments with IBA either in rooting powder or y sprying uttings with the uxin wter solutions. C. l Elegntissim. In 9 the ontrol, untreted uttings of this ultivrs rooted in 7% produing severl roots ut similrly s in Aure their root lls were not formed during 6 weeks (fig. ). No signifint effets were oserved due to the use of rooting powders, neither in perentge of rooted uttings nor in. The joint pplition of powders nd the iopreprtrion did not improved the effiieny of powders. Two- nd three-fold sprying with AlgminoPlnt enhned rhizogenesis nd signifintly inresed the perentge of rooted uttings s ompred oth to the ontrol uttings nd those treted with the ommeril rooting powders. In the positive effet of Algminoplnt on rhizogenesis ws onfirmed: its two- nd threefold pplition signifintly improved s ompred to the ontrol uttings nd those treted with the powder while the perentge of rooted uttings ws inresed only due to threefold sprying (fig. ). In this seson lso the syntheti uxin gve good results pplied either s sprying uttings with the IBA wter solution (oth prmters mesured) or pplying the rooting powder to the uttings ses (the perentge of rooting). DISCUSSION Biostimulnts ontin the iologilly tive sustnes whih positively ffet plnt growth nd development. They improve plnt tolerne to the unfvourle environmentl onditions nd ertin my ffet development of root system [Jnkowski nd Duis 8]. Extrt from se weeds re eing used in hortiulturl prodution to improve quntity nd qulity of yielding [Jouert nd Lefrn 8, Mtysik et l. 8, Rthor et l. 9]. Reently, there is growing interest in pplying iopreprtions mde from se lgs to stimulte rooting of uttings. Studies undertken y Stirk nd Stden [997] on effet of six preprtions mde from se lgs onfirmed their effiieny in improving rhizogenesis in uttings. Aording to the ove uthors the preprtions suh s Kelpk or Sem n deliver to uttings the suffiient mounts of uxins neessry to indue roots. Presene of uxins in the extrts from se weeds n qulify them s preprtions enhning rhizogenesis. Crouh nd Stden [99] lim tht most of the lgs used to produe iopreprtions ontin uxins or the uxin-likesustnes ut their onentrtions re vrile. Trils on the effet of seweed extrt on growth of Vign sinensis showed its positive effet on length nd mss of roots [Whphm et l. 6]. Thorsen et l. [] tested n effet of the extrt from n lg ontining rown pigment (Lminri digitt) on germintion, rooting nd growth of severl hereous plnts nd proved its stimultory effet on rooting of uttings ut rnge of response depended on plnt speies nd onentrtion of the preprtion. A similr plnt response ws oserved in this tril where AlgminoPlnt signifintly improved rhizogenesis in two dogwood ultivrs ut the effets depended on numer of spryings. The pplition of AlgminoPlnt resulted in n inrese in the hlorophyll ontent in the yellow-leved ultivr. Similr results were otined y Whphmt et l. [6] in their tril on tomto treted with the extrt from Asophyllum nodosum: the inreses in the hlorophyll ontents were different in different ultivrs nd depended on preprtion onentrtion. Results of Blunden et l. [996] onfirm the inrese in the green pigment level in severl rops treted with the ove se weed extrt. Similr inrese in the hlorophyll ontent ws oserved fter pplition of the extrt from Lminri digitt [Jouert nd Lfrn 8]. Sivsnkri et l. [6] report on signifint effets of iopreprtions on ontents of reduing nd totl solule sugrs in plnts. AlgminoPlnt inresed the totl nd reduing sugr levels in rrot roots [Dorzński t l. 8]. Similrly, Rthore et l. [9] oserved n elevted level of rohydrtes in plnts of Glyine mx treted with the extrt from se weed Kppphyus lvrezii. Also in oth dogwood ultivrs under study the ontents of reduing sugrs inresed fter sprying with Algmino- Plnt. Thus, the positive effet of the iopreprtion on rhizogenesis ould hve een At Si. Pol.
Effet of uxins nd the iostimultor AlgminoPlnt on rhizogenesis in stem uttings... relted to the improved photosynthesis resulting in n inrese in the sugr ontent in oth ultivrs nd n elevted hlorophyll level in the yellow-leved txon. This speultion is supported y the ft tht the rnge of response to the tretment with AlgminoPlnt ws lrger in the yellow-leved ultivr, ontining less hlorophyll nd reduing sugrs t the eginning of the experiment. Amino ids ply different roles in plnt orgnisms, serving minly s uilding mteril for synthesis of peptides nd proteins. Some of them re storge forms of mine nitrogen, others serve s trnsporttion forms etween different plnt prts [Kopewiz nd Lewk ]. Lesuffleur et l. [7] proved tht n elevted onentrtion of free mino ids in rhizosphere positively ffets rhizogenesis wht ould e true lso in se of Cornus. Differenes in solute vlues of the ove nlyzes etween two yers n e explined y n effet of the environmentl onditions ffeting stok plnts resulting in different physiologil sttus of uttings on the dte of their hrvest. However, oth the differenes etween the ultivrs nd rnge of their response to the tretment re of omprle mgnitude order. Dogwood uttings hve reltively high rooting ility (% nd 7% in the ultivrs used in this tril) wht my explin the lk of response fter the pplition of the routinely used rooting powders ontining uxins. Yet, the positive effets of AlgminoPlnt on the perentge of rooted uttings nd the root ll development my in future e trnslted into eonomi profits of the growers justifying the use of this iopreprtion in ommeril prodution of dogwood. CONCLUSIONS. The iostymultor AlgminoPlnt positively ffeted rhizogenesis in dogwood though its effet differed in two ultivrs under study.. The tretment with the AlgminoPlnt inresed ontents of hlorophyll +, reduing sugrs nd free mino ids in leves of uttings wht ould explin its positive effet on rhizogenesis..
