Page Four May 21, 2017 Fr. Maciej s Message God, more than anything, wants from us an open heart. It is only with such an attitude that one can see the Risen Lord. Sometimes I get the impression that our communities of prayer are so focused on our own made-up images of God that we are unable to perceive His true presence among ourselves. Sadness, depression and grumbling attitude are not a positive and inspiring testimony of faith in the fact that the Lord has truly risen. We should ask ourselves today whether the joy of Easter morning is visible in our hearts, our eyes, our words, our gestures, our relationships? I often say that the ultimate test of our faith, our Christianity, is usually through another person. You can make many beautiful declarations of your faith and pray an infinite number of prayers, but if there is no love behind it like the love Jesus talks about today, then I fear it is all for nothing. Concrete! My faith in God must sooner or later bring me closer to my neighbor. Sometimes it is someone close, maybe a difficult spouse, disobedient child, sick mother-inlaw, alcoholic brother, or drug-addict sister. Other times it may be someone completely unknown to us who needs some kind of support, or just a moment of our attention. Other concrete could be suffering, traffic jam on the street, or a moment when we leave church parking lot after the Mass. Am I open to God's love and do I respond with love in my life? Yesterday, at Holy Name Cathedral, Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, ordained six deacons as priests. Here are their names: Timothy Anastos, Radley Alcantara, Moises Navarro, Trent Rauck, Przemyslaw Tomczyk, Miguel Venegas. Pray for them, as well as for all priests so that they may always be faithful to the great vocation to which Jesus Himself called them. Heartfelt blessings, Fr. Maciej Galle Pan Bóg bardziej niż czegokolwiek pragnie z naszej strony otwartości serca. Tylko w takiej postawie można zobaczyć Zmartwychwstałego Pana. Czasami odnoszę nieodparte wrażenie, że nasze wspólnoty modlitwy są tak bardzo skupione na swoich wyimaginowanych obrazach Boga, że nie są w stanie dostrzec Jego prawdziwej obecności pośród nas. Smutek i przygnębienie oraz postawa narzekania nie są raczej pozytywnym i zarażającym świadectwem wiary w to, że Pan prawdziwie zmartwychwstał. Stawiamy sobie dziś pytanie czy radość wielkanocnego poranka jest widoczna w naszych sercach, spojrzeniach, słowach, gestach, relacjach? Często powtarzam, że sprawdzianem naszej wiary, naszego chrześcijaństwa jest najczęściej drugi człowiek. Można składać bardzo wiele pięknych deklaracji o swojej wierze i odmawiać z namaszczeniem nieskończone ilości modlitw, ale jeśli nie ma w tym wszytskim miłości, o której dzisiaj mówi Jezus, to obawiam się, że to wszystko na nic. Konkret! Moja wiara w Boga musi prędzej czy później odnieść mnie do bliźniego. Czasem jest to ktoś bliski, może trudny współmałżonek, nieposłuszne dziecko, chora teściowa, brat alkoholik, siostra narkomanka. Innym razem to może być ktoś zupełnie obcy, kto potrzebuje takiego czy innego wsparcia albo zazwyczaj chwili mojej uwagi. Konkretem może być też cierpienie, albo korek na ulicy czy wyjazd z kościelnego parkingu po skończonej Mszy świętej. Czy otwieram się na miłość Boga i czy odpowiadam miłością w swoim życiu? Wczoraj w Katedrze Najświętszego Imienia kardynał Błażej Cupich, Arcybiskup Chicago udzielił święceń prezbiteratu sześciu diakonom. An estimated 58,000 Haitians are at risk of having their Temporary Protected Status (TPS) terminated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). TPS allows individuals to temporarily remain in the U.S. and support themselves legally while Haiti is being rebuilt. Page Six May 21, 2017 Our homeless veterans need your help. The Knights of Columbus- Mater Christi Council #14284 will be collecting NEW Bath Towels for homeless veterans. We need your help to collect 700 NEW bath towels that will be distributed at the Chicago Standdown, June 9-10, 2017 at the General Jones Armory, 5200 S. Cottage Grove, Chicago, Illinois 60615. Bring your towel donation to mass the Memorial Day weekend of ay 27-29 th and put them in the box in the back of church. The Knights will bring your donation to the Chicago Standdown and give them to our needy veterans. God Bless You for your donation. You can also make a monetary donation towards the purchase of a new towel. There will be a Knight of Columbus in the back of church to accept your donations. History of the Chicago Standdown In 1993 the first Standdown in Chicago was held in Humboldt Park. A stumbling, fumbling, but committed group of volunteers, veterans organizations, and community service providers planned and executed the event which was attended by 257 homeless veterans. For three days veterans were offered medical services, housing opportunities, employment assistance, food, clothing, and a chance for rest and relaxation. At its completion, volunteers were fired up with ideas for the improvement and growth of this program. Since that first Standdown, the non-for-profit, Chicago Veterans Economic Development Council, has developed a strong group of community agencies, federal agencies, veterans service organizations, corporations and volunteers that offer two Standdowns each year in the Chicago area. The Summer Standdown is typically offered on the south side of Chicago and provides the widest range of services possible for two days. The Winter Standdown is generally on the north side of Chicago and is a one day event intended to prepare homeless veterans for the difficult winter months, focusing on winter clothing and housing resources. Both of these events will service between 700 and 800 veterans from the Chicagoland area. Soon after our first Standdown, we recognized two unexpected benefits. First, it provided an opportunity for veterans to reach out to fellow veterans who were struggling. We find that veterans are incredibly generous with their time and talents and offering assistance can be a morale booster or them as well. Veterans helping veterans is a key feature of the Standdown. Second, service agencies who participate benefit from the networking that goes on between agencies as they learn more about each other and the resources available for their clients. This makes them more effective with their veterans clients throughout the year.
