ROSE UP-COMING EVENTS MASS & COMMUNAL ANNOINTING OF THE SICK The sick members of our community are invited to a parish celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick on Sunday, May 27th, at the 3:00PM Mass, followed by a social at St. Joseph Center. The entrance from Newkirk Avenue, which is wheelchair accessible, will be open for the occasion. Parishioners who wish to pray with and for the sick, but are not necessarily in need of the Sacrament, are also encouraged to attend the Eucharist. JUNE 3RD - THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST (CORPUS CHRISTI) Eucharistic Procession on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, Sunday, June 3rd at 10:00AM (after the 9:00AM Spanish Mass). There will be no 12:45PM Polish Mass (10:45AM Mass will be bilingual). SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE We will be moving our Masses to the lower church for the summer season effective Sunday, May. 27th.. COMMISSIONED TO LIVE IN THE WORLD In today s scriptures we hear two different stories about commissioning. In the Acts of the Apostles Peter leads the assembly in prayer that the Lord will choose and commission the person to replace Judas among the Twelve. In the Gospel Jesus prays that his chosen disciples might be consecrated, or made holy. Jesus does not ask his Father to keep the disciples separate from the world, but instead sends them out into the world. While we might think that holy people are set apart from the world, we cannot hear today s scriptures without realizing that God s holy, chosen people are commissioned to live in the midst of the world where they can reveal the love of God that makes the entire world holy. Mothering Sunday was on the Fourth Sunday of Lent. Long ago, people were freed from work to travel on this day to the parish where they were baptized, their Mother Church. Often, people were reunited with their mothers on this day. Employers would release their workers and servants for this visit. The American celebration, while based on this custom, really has to do with an anti-war movement of mothers in Civil War times. They crusaded for better sanitary conditions for their sons. When President Wilson instituted the first Mother s Day in 1912, it was a day to fly the flag in honor of mothers whose children had died in battle. Możliwości ustalenia przez wszystkich chrześcijan wspólnej daty Wielkanocy poświęcono międzynarodowe seminarium ekumeniczne na greckokatolickim uniwersytecie we Lwowie. Odbyło się ono 15 maja, ale dopiero 19 maja opublikowano komunikat końcowy. Punktem wyjścia obrad były ekumeniczne ustalenia w sprawie wspólnej daty najważniejszego chrześcijańskiego święta, podjęte w 1997 r. w Aleppo w Syrii. We lwowskim spotkaniu wzięli udział przedstawiciele Światowej Rady Kościołów, wyznań chrześcijańskich działających na terenie Ukrainy w tym wszystkich trzech tamtejszych Cerkwi prawosławnych a także Papieskiej Rady ds. Popierania Jedności Chrześcijan. Przewodniczący tej dykasterii skierował do jego uczestników przesłanie. Kard. Walter Kasper określił w nim propozycje wysunięte w Aleppo jako jedne z najciekawszych, jakie dotychczas na ten temat sformułowano. W Aleppo uznano, że datę Wielkanocy winno się wyznaczać wspólnie zgodnie z ustaleniami pierwszego Soboru Powszechnego, który odbył się w 325 r. w Nicei. Według nich chrześcijańska Pascha ma przypadać w pierwszą niedzielę po wiosennej pełni księżyca. Trzeba to obliczać z użyciem nowoczesnych przyrządów i według południka przechodzącego przez Jerozolimę postulowano przed 12 laty w Aleppo. Na obecnym spotkaniu we Lwowie stwierdzono jednak, że problemem dla chrześcijan różnych wyznań nie są same obliczenia, ale brak zaufania, spowodowany trwającymi od wieków podziałami. Dlatego trzeba działać na rzecz wzajemnego zrozumienia i pojednania. Obchodzenie Wielkanocy tego samego dnia byłoby wyrazem ewangelicznego świadectwa wobec świata czytamy w komunikacie końcowym. Przypomniano w nim, że przez dwa lata (2010 i 2011) daty te w kalendarzu juliańskim i gregoriańskim wyjątkowo zbiegają się. Podkreślono, że byłoby dobrze, gdyby odtąd przestało to już być wyjątkiem, a stało się regułą. HUMOR DNA... Ksiądz naprawia na plebani płot. ENVIADOS PARA VIVIR EN EL MUNDO En las lecturas de hoy escuchamos dos relatos diferentes sobre los que son enviados. En los Hechos de los Apóstoles Pedro guía a la asamblea en oración para que el Señor elija y designe a la persona que reemplazará a Judas entre los Doce. En el Evangelio Jesús reza por que los discípulos que eligió sean consagrados o santificados. Jesús no le pide a su Padre que proteja a los discípulos del mundo, sino que los envía al mundo. Aunque pensemos que las personas santas están alejadas del mundo, no podemos escuchar las lecturas de hoy sin comprender que las personas santas elegidas por Dios son enviadas a vivir en el mundo, en donde pueden revelar el amor de Dios que santifica al mundo entero.
