1 SUNDAY REFLECTION Light surrounds us even if shadow abounds. God is the God of Joy and we should rejoice as people do when the harvest is brought in. These hopeful and encouraging words of Isaiah are part of the passage quoted by Matthew when he begins the story of Jesus ministry. We live in a time when the signs of harvest with its residue of empty paddocks and stripped vines are echoed by the destruction of a deadly harvest caused by the natural disaster we have experienced. Jesus begins his ministry. As he walks the sands of Galilee he begins the shaping of the kingdom mission. He begins with people; ordinary people going about their everyday work. Where the gospel is proclaimed some people will hear it as good news, a message that frees from all that binds them. Others will hear a call to be part of bringing the message to others. The call of Peter, Andrew, James and John at the water recalls Jesus baptism and how Matthew sees the relationship between God and Jesus. In his letter, Paul warns that our whole understanding of the meaning of Christ for the world will be lost if divisions are allowed to grow unchecked. As we begin this year we can resolve to make a conscious effort to act as healer and peacemaker where we can. To enjoy the harvest means we have labored and our labor is the cultivation of mature communities based on promoting individual growth, fairness and respect for the dignity of all. This past year, several individuals and families joined our parish. We welcome them to our parish family! Many people worship here and enjoy our beau ful church but are not registered. Memorials Each week the Sanctuary candle, as well as hosts and wine for the Mass, and candles for the altar are available to be memorialized for deceased relatives and friends or for special intentions such as anniversaries or birthdays. 2 Niedzielna refleksja Chyba nieobce jest nam uczucie satysfakcji związane z pewnymi wydarzeniami, które bezpośrednio nas nie dotyczą, a w których w jakiś sposób uczestniczymy. Gdy słyszymy o niezwykłych sukcesach tzw. zwykłych ludzi, czujemy, że to także nasze zwycięstwo. Bo to przecież ktoś podobny do nas... W 2004 roku Marek Kamiński i niepełnosprawny nastolatek Janek Mela zdobyli biegun północny i południowy. Z podziwem i niedowierzaniem śledziliśmy losy jednej i drugiej wyprawy, zadając sobie pytanie o granice wytrzymałości młodego, niepełnosprawnego człowieka, o ich możliwe konsekwencje, ale przede wszystkim o to, czego było więcej: entuzjazmu i fantazji czy też odwagi, by podjąć się tak niezwykłego zadania? Nie ma wątpliwości, że na takie wyczyny zdobywają się tylko ci, co mają odwagą przekraczać granice, które wyznacza ludziom przekonanie o potrzebie małej stabilizacji. Wyznaczając sobie wielkie cele, trzeba sobie pozwolić na tę odrobinę fantazji, która w pierwszej chwili nie stawia dodatkowych pytań, ale z entuzjazmem patrzy w nieznane... Gdy czytamy dzisiejszą Ewangelię aż trudno uwierzyć, że wszystko poszło tak szybko. Jedno słowo, krótkie wezwanie, i od razu decyzja. Święty Mateusz napisze o Szymonie i Andrzeju: natychmiast zostawili sieci i poszli za Nim". W podobnych słowach zamknie też historię Jakuba i jego brata Jana: natychmiast zostawili łódź i ojca i poszli za Nim". Poruszający, a właściwie wręcz niewiarygodny jest radykalizm, z jakim pierwsi uczniowie zostawiają dotychczasowe życie i wyruszają z Jezusem. Nietrudno przecież sięgnąć do naszych osobistych doświadczeń, odkryć podobne odczucia i niemal tak samo wielki entuzjazm, a zaraz potem całkiem racjonalną refleksję, która jak kubeł zimnej wody gasi pierwszy zapał. Może właśnie dlatego nie wolno zwlekać. Trzeba się czasami pospieszyć i zaangażować od pierwszej chwili, by różnego rodzaju kalkulacje, lęk przed nieznanym lub brakiem zabezpieczenia nie zburzyły entuzjazmu i nadziei, a tym samym nie zamknęły serca w ciasnym egoizmie, który powstrzymuje nasze kroki. Witamy w naszym Kościele wszystkich nowych parafian, którzy w ostatnim czasie dołączyli się do naszej wspólnoty. Życzymy Wam wielu łask Bożych! Niezdecydowanych, którzy jeszcze zwlekają z zapisaniem serdecznie zapraszamy do wspólnej modlitwy. Oficjalnej rejestracji można dopełnić w biurze parafialnym lub zgłosić się do księdza po Mszach św. Każdego tygodnia świeca przed tabernakulum, świece zapalane do mszy św., hostia i wino mogą być ofiarowane dla uczczenia naszych zmarłych lub intencjach szczególnych, które chcemy w danym dniu lub tygodniu polecić Panu Bogu (rocznice lub urodziny). Zainteresowanych ofiarowaniem swoich modlitw i intencji w tej formie prosimy o kontakt z biurem parafialnym. Czas przygotowania i płacenia podatków za rok O dokument potwierdzający złożoną donacje na kościół mogą ubiegać się osoby, których roczne ofiary wyniosły $250 lub więcej. Using your weekly collection envelopes, first of all, is proof of being a registered parishioner. It enables us to record your donations to use for income tax reporting. Your record of donations confirms your parishioner status to certify that you qualify to act as a sponsor for the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation as well as other required certification. If you do not currently use envelopes, this would be a good time to start. Call the church office and obtain a set. Prayer God invites us into a relationship with Him that is both personal and communal. He speaks to us through His Son, Jesus Christ, the Word-made-flesh. Prayer is our response to God who is already speaking or, better yet, revealing Himself to us. Therefore, prayer is not merely an exchange of words, but it engages the whole person in a relationship with God the Father, through the Son, and in the Holy Spirit. LIBERATION AND REFORM While you might have to reach for an atlas to determine that Isaiah is speaking about Galilee, today's first reading is prophetic of Jesus' future ministry in that province. The light that brings salvation and rejoicing is, ultimately, Christ. Liberation is the theme: liberation from both ignorance ("darkness") and sin (the "yoke"). As Isaiah identifies a place, so Paul describes an attitude: the attitude that develops, even among good people, of equating their own will with the common good. This always brings dissension, and so it has done in Corinth. Paul will not allow this; we are all members of "Christ's party." The gospel is not to divide us. The theme is "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 4:17). To spread this message, Jesus begins to select disciples, four of whom we meet today: Peter, Andrew, James, and John.
