wmlego@gmail.com (773) 581-2730 ext. 129 jdowling42@gmail.com (773) 581-2730 ext. 115 Parish Information Masses 4pm Saturday 6:45 am and 11 am Sunday Confessions 5-6pm Saturday Telephone: (773) 581-2730 From the Pastor s Desk Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ, I know that I am deeply affected by the recent report about sexual misconduct that was released in Pennsylvania. This report has been the catalyst of more reports as to how leaders of the Institutional Church have not been faithful to their ministry of care for the Body of Christ, the living Church. I am sure that this has also affected many people, both Catholics and non-catholics alike. This is a server breach of trust not only of the leadership of the Church but also those who have been accused of committing these crimes. We, as members of the Church, are living out Jesus experience of Good Friday. I do not have nor know of any words that can take away the pain, anger, doubt or uncertainty that anyone is feeling. From the Leaders of Institutional Church, there needs to be words of forgiveness towards the victims and concrete ways of helping those victimized to heal. Those who have covered up these actions and those who have committed them have to not only be held accountable but also experience the consequences of their actions. For me as a Catholic Priest, this experience always calls me to be more conscious of the commitment that I have made. These words from St. Augustine are challenging yet pertinent: You say, the times are troublesome, the times are burdensome, the times are miserable. Live rightly and you will change the times...those who are hurt are human beings; those by whom they are hurt are also human beings. So, change human beings and the times will be changed (Serm. 311, 8). The challenge for me is to live in the Good Friday Moment. As per the example of Jesus, Good Friday leads to Easter. I am not sure how this will occur, but I have faith that it will. Let us continue to pray for the victims of these crimes and also pray for those who have committed them. Rev. My, jako członkowie Kościoła, przeżywamy doświadczenie Jezusa w Wielki Piątek. wmlego@gmail.com (773) 581-2730 ext. 129 Informacje Parafialne Msza Sw 9:30am w każdą niedziele Spowiedz 3-cia sobota w miesiącu 17:15 do 6:00 p.m. Sakramenty w języku polskim chrzest, slub itp. Żyjcie słusznie, a zmienicie czasy... Ks. Early Church Fathers and Abortion One of the arguments in Roe v Wade court was: It perhaps is not generally appreciated that the restrictive criminal abortion laws...are not of ancient or even of common law origin." This is misleading. Consider the following teachings by early Church Fathers. The first passage comes from the Didache (Greek for teaching ), which is usually dated as early as the end of the first century: you shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill that which is begotten (chapter 2). This statement is as clear as it gets. The second passage is from St. Barnabas from the early second century: You shall love your neighbour more than your own soul. You shall not slay the child by procuring abortion; nor, again, shall you destroy it after it is born (Chapter 19). St. Basil the Great (c.330-379): Women also who administer drugs to cause abortion, as well as those who take poisons to destroy unborn children, are murderesses (Letter 188, to Amphilochius concerning the canons, section 8). Notice here how St. Basil is not making any distinctions about what stage in the pregnancy is okay to administer drugs to cause abortion. The Lord GOD is my help, therefore I am not disgraced. National Rosary Rally Coming to America October 7, 2018 Last October, in Poland more than a million Catholics gathered along the borders of their nation praying to Our Lady for their country. Later Ireland, Britain and Australia prayed for their Nations. Now, WE, in the U.S., are asking for help for the soul of our nation which is wracked by moral decay and spiritual decline. On the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary which is October 7, Catholics in the U.S. will gather along the coasts, in Washington D.C., at State Capitols, at Churches and in individual homes to beg Our Lady of the Rosary to turn the tide of what is going on in our nation (millions of unborn babies slaughtered, drug use, countless children growing up in broken homes, sexual abuse, etc.). The question of HOW can this turn around happen? Our Lady has given us the answer at Fatima and La Salette, France, at Quito, Ecuador and Akita, Japan. PRAY THE ROSARY!!! Parish Mission Statement We Believe that God is Love, and when we live in love we live in God and God lives in us! Therefore we, the Parish Family of Saint Turibius, dedicate ourselves to living out Christ s Great Commandment: we will love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength, and we will show our love for God by the way we love and care for one another. To this end, we will respond to our baptismal call, strengthened by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit. As a Family of Faith that has an Attitude of Gratitude for the gifts God has given to us, we will share our time, our talent and our treasure with each other. We welcome into our parish family all people, because we believe that together we are the Body of Christ and together we can bring the love, peace, forgiveness, healing, and joy of Christ into our community in ways we never could have if we were to remain apart. May all who meet us, who worship with us, who work and play with us, know we are Christians by our love!
