From the Pastor s Desk... This weekend s Gospel reminds us of the words left to us by Christ prior to his departure. The words are simple and beautiful, but they are difficult to fulfill in today s world of indifference and hatred. There we read: My children, I will be with you only a little while longer. I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another. These words provide directions for a happy life filled with love. It is up to all of us to ensure that these wordswill be fulfilled. The month of May will begin soon, and it is devoted to the Mother of God and our Mother. Let us consecrate to Her, ourselves, our families, our motherland, and the entire world in which we live. All are encouraged to participate in May Devotions and the May Crowning on next Sunday, May 1st at 10:30 am Mass. Rev. Richard Milek Italian Catholic Federation Invites New Members To Join For any questions regarding the ICF at St. Francis Borgia, contact Teresa Helfand at 773-763-0507. Respect Life Politics and Religion Do Mix The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, in its doctrinal note On some questions regarding the participation of Catholics in political life (2002) said about St. Thomas More: [He] gave witness by his martyrdom to the inalienable dignity of the human conscience. Though subjected to various forms of psychological pressure, Saint Thomas More refused to compromise, never forsaking the constant fidelity to legitimate authority and institutions which distinguished him; he taught by his life and his death that man cannot be separated from God, nor politics from morality. It will be fun and entertaining to see the thespian talents these students have developed under the guidance of Miss Gryfinski! Break a leg! There will be an all-school Mass in church at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, April 29. All are welcome to attend. During Lent, St. Francis Borgia s service project supported the Heifer International Foundation. The goal of every Heifer project is to help families achieve self-reliance. This is done by providing them with the tools they need to sustain themselves. They empower families to turn hunger and poverty into hope and prosperity. Heifer links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas with a long history of poverty. The animals provide partners with both food and reliable income, as agricultural products such as milk, eggs and honey can be traded or sold at market. When many families gain this new sustainable income, it brings new opportunities for building schools, creating agricultural cooperatives, forming community savings and funding small businesses. Our Lenten project was to collect money to Fill the Ark. These monetary donations will help buy cows, pigs and chickens. Students were each given a bank to fill with loose change. Our second graders performed a commercial promoting this project. They sang a song to the tune of The Ants Go Marching asking students to come together and fill the ark by donating to get animals for people in need. They went to every classroom to promote this mission. Over $1800.00 was collected and a check was sent to the Heifer International Foundation after Easter. Thank you to the children and families of St. Francis Borgia School for their most generous donations. Many, many thank to Mrs. Melanie Petzold, our second grade teacher, for coordinating this very successful project! W testamencie Chrystusa czytamy: Dzieci, jeszcze krótko jestem z Wami. Ks. Ryszard Miłek Nabożeństwa Majowe Maj to miesiąc w sposób szczególny poświęcony Matce Bożej. Jako Polacy mamy szczególne zobowiązanie do oddawania czci Maryji, dlatego zachęcamy wszystkich do licznego udziału w Nabożeństwach Majowych odprawianych w naszym Kościele w poniedziałki, środy i piątki o godz. 7 wieczorem. Zachęcamy także do podtrzymania zwyczaju śpiewania litanii loretańskiej i pieśni Maryjnych przy figurze Matki Bożej przed Kościołem we wtorki, czwartki i soboty o godzinie 7 wieczorem.
