Colossians 3:4 REJOICE AND BE GLAD This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad (Psalm 118:24). Let us remember that these words of today s responsorial psalm are not only sung from the hearts of those gathered in our parish. They are also sung by the poor in tiny barrios throughout Central and South America. They are sung by those denied religious freedom in our world; these Christians lift their voices in clandestine places of worship. These words are sung by people who have lost loved ones to acts of terrorism and war around the globe. Even in the midst of conflict and division, Christians still come together to declare that poverty, loneliness, violence, and division will never, ever have as much power as the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Indeed, let us rejoice this day and be glad! Next weekend s second collection is designated for Catholic Relief Services. EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE COLLECTION The second collection this weekend is for Educational Excellence at St. Joseph School. SJS students will serve as collectors. We are pleased that many alumni celebrate the Easter Solemnity with their families here at our Basilica. Page 3 CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES Next Sunday, April 23 we will try to ease the burdens of our brothers and sisters around the globe through our generosity. Thanks to your donations, this agency alleviates suffering and provides assistance to people in need through the international CRS. They supply outreach and pastoral care to refugees, migrants and travelers as well as providing assistance to victims of natural disasters and other emergencies around the world through the Holy Father s Relief Fund. By participating in this collection, you are responding to Jesus in disguise in some of the most marginalized communities in our world. PILGRIMAGE TO FATIMA The Pilgrimage to Fatima to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary is scheduled for August 1 11. The popularity of The Fatima Shrine is growing throughout the world. People from various continents come to experience God s goodness and love in this sacred place. Our pilgrimage offers the opportunity for the participants to bring our petitions and intentions to Fatima asking Blessed Mother s intercession for all our needs. Please register as soon as possible. Cost from Boston is only $3590pp. PARTNERS IN CHARITY Through the generosity of our dedicated parishioners we collected $16,675 which is 53% of our Partners in Charity appeal goal. This Diocesan annual appeal serves thousands of families and individuals through outreach, formation, evangelization and worship. If you have not as yet made a gift or pledge, please fill out a commitment pledge envelope (available in pews). Thank You! FESTIVAL 44 Preparation for the 44th Annual Festival is well under way. The general chairman is Dick Skrocki, a parishioner and science teacher at SJS, co-chairman is Michael Hackenson, Principal at SJS. The success of this event depends on the support of our parishioners and alumni. Money Raffle - tickets were mailed out to parishioners, friends and alumni. SCHOOL NEWS Under the direction of Sister Jeanne Marie, the 4th grade class of SJS participated in Follow the Voyage 2017 Jan. 9th through Feb. 17th. In the safe environment of their classroom, the 14 students visited, Ft. Lauderdale, FL as well as cities in Puerto Rico, Aruba and the Barbados. Follow the Voyage 2017 gave the students a comprehensive academic curriculum that included science, technology, engineering, math as well as literature, social studies, character development, nutrition and critical thinking. The students decided to create a newspaper and their efforts resulted in 13 pages of pictures and articles. Through the generosity of M/M L. Montione the newspaper was printed entitled St. Joseph s Fourth Grade News Gazette sold for $10 a copy. A profit of $1,000 was realized and the 4th grade will give the proceeds to the Annual Giving Fund of the School. Congratulations to Sister Jeanne Marie and her 4th grade students for a job well done. Thank You and God Bless You! DEVOTION AND NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH During this joyful Easter Week of the resurrection of Jesus Christ we will have the opportunity to participate in the Mass and Novena to St. Joseph at our Basilica at 7:00pm on Wed., April 19th. Every Catholic, besides the regular participation in Sunday Mass, should develop a habit of joining other devotional practices such as novenas to St. Joseph, Rosary Devotions, etc. Devotion to our Patron is a very powerful prayer to obtain from God needed blessings. We look forward to the Parish Council members to carry our Patron s statue into the sanctuary and parishioners to join us in this important devotion. NOVENA TO DIVINE MERCY Mercy Sunday is associated with a nine-day Novena which began at our Basilica on Good Friday at 6:30pm during devotional services at the Holy Sepulcher. Divine Mercy is at the heart of the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and it is a central theme of God s revelation to humanity. God s merciful love is a source of hope to the world and to every human being. We encourage you to come to church every day and be part of the novena prayer after each mass. We will conclude the prayer to the Divine Mercy on Sunday, April 23rd at 3:00pm. May we all experience God s merciful love in our daily pilgrimage to eternal destiny. ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN S CLUB The SJPWC are sponsoring (3) $500 Scholarships to a high school graduate attending at least a two year college, or attending St. Joseph School. Eligible applicants must be the son or daughter of an active member for the past three years. Per the bylaws, applications must be picked up in person and returned to President, Jo-Ann Canty no later than April 30th. Winners will be announced at the May 9th general meeting and be the guest of the club at the Annual Banquet in June.
