The line that reads Even though I walk in the dark valley / I fear no evil; for you are at my side / with your rod and your staff / that give me courage (Psalm 23:4) connects this week s scriptures to the wonderful story of the road to Emmaus, which we heard last week. The Lord Jesus, our Good Shepherd, is constantly at our side. He calls us each by name, beckoning us into a deeper relationship with him. That call, issued to each of us at the moment of our baptism, carries with it the promise of the Good Shepherd: I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly This week s second collection is for Higher Utility and Energy Costs. Page 3 MAY DEVOTIONS May Devotions will be held Mon. Fri. at 7:00pm at our Basilica and on Sunday after 11:00am Mass. We urge our parishioners to make every effort to attend at least once a week. Crowning of the Statue of the Blessed Mother -will take place on Monday, May 8th at 7:00pm with the participation of the children of the First Communion Class, SJS students, religious education students, parishioners, Children of Mary, parish ministries and organizations and altar servers. After devotions children who attended will be treated to an ice cream party. Please meet in the school parking lot to process to the Basilica. MOTHER S DAY Next Sunday, May 14th is Mother s Day. Masses will be offered for mothers living and deceased and for the intentions submitted in your remembrance envelopes. A mother plays a unique role in the life of her children. Let us remember our mothers with a prayer on this special day for the love and sacrifices they made on our behalf. CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION On Saturday May 13th we will begin our traditional candlelight rosary procession exceptionally at 5:00pm (right after the Mass at 4:00pm), honoring Our Lady of Fatima. We invite our parishioners, students of SJS, Children of Mary, parish organizations and ministries and altar servers for May Devotions and an outdoor procession. This marks the 100th anniversary of the apparition of our Lady in Fatima. Flowers before the Blessed Mother Altar are for the living and deceased members of the Holy Rosary Sodality. JOSEPH GARDEN OF PEACE UPDATE We are pleased to announce that Slawomir Kurpiewski is our cemetery caretaker. He will be in charge of the cemetery area assisting with funerals and columbarium interments and basically overseeing all cemetery concerns. Please help us to tidy up your lots as Memorial Day approaches. The dumpster near the garage should be used to dispose of your refuse. With your cooperation this sacred resting place for our loved ones will be presentable for Memorial Day. DEVOTION AND NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH On Wednesday May 10th at 7:00pm, we will pray to God through the intercession of our Patron. St. John Paul II stated, St. Joseph was called by God to serve the person and mission of Jesus directly through the exercise of his fatherhood. God placed him at the head of his family, as a faithful and prudent servant, so that with fatherly care he might watch over his only begotten son. Students in Mrs. Lefebvre s Grade 6, 7, and 8 Language Arts classes entered their original poems in Creative Communication s spring poetry contest. Poems are selected for publication based on their literary merit, creativity, or social significance. St. Joseph School will be recognized in the anthology for receiving a Writing Achievement Award. Page 5 NABOŻEŃSTWA MAJOWE W miesiącu maju gromadzimy się na Nabożeństwach Majowych. Są one odprawiane w naszej świątyni o godz. 19:00. Jednym z elementów pobożności maryjnej w Stanach Zjednoczonych jest uroczysta Koronacja Maryi. W naszej parafii ta uroczystość odbędzie się w poniedziałek, 8 maja o godz. 19: 00 w połączeniu z Nabożeństwem Majowym. W uroczystości wezmą udział dzieci pierwszokomunijne i wszystkie organizacje parafialne. Dzieci spotykają się przed nabożeństwem na parkingu szkolnym, aby móc wejść do Bazyliki w uroczystej procesji. DZIEŃ MATKI Na najbliższą niedzielę przypada Dzień Matki. Wszystkie Msze św. tego dnia będą ofiarowane w intencji naszych matek, zarówno żyjących jak i tych, które już odeszły do wieczności. Prośbę o modlitwę można zapisać na specjalnych kopertach z rodzinnych pakietów. Nie zapomnijmy w tym dniu o wdzięczności dla naszych matek za wszystko, co od nich otrzymaliśmy i dalej otrzymujemy. NABOŻEŃSTWO FATIMSKIE Po raz pierwszy w tym roku spotkamy się na Nabożeństwie Fatimskim, które odbędzie się w najbliższą sobotę wyjątkowo o godz. 17:00 (zaraz po Mszy św. o godz. 16:00). Do udziału zapraszamy wszystkich parafian i organizacje parafialne. Uroczystą procesją włączymy się naszą wspólnotą do światowych obchodów setnej rocznicy objawień fatimskich. Przy okazji zachęcamy do zapisywania się na pielgrzymkę do Fatimy, która odbędzie się w sierpniu. Więcej szczegółów na broszurkach przy wejściach do Bazyliki lub na plebanii. PARTNERS IN CHARITY Zebraliśmy już dwie trzecie tegorocznej sumy na Partners in Charity! Bardzo serdecznie dziękujemy wszystkim ofiarodawcom za otwartość serca. Pamiętajmy, że składając swoją ofiarę przyczyniamy się również do pomocy naszej szkole, która również otrzymuje pewną pomoc z tego funduszu. Ze środków tych korzysta też kilku księży, którzy pracowali w naszej parafii, a będąc już na emeryturze są zależni od pomocy innych. Poprzez nasze ofiary okażmy im naszą wdzięczność. Ciągle jeszcze można składać ofiary lub zobowiązania korzystając z formularzy znajdujących się w Bazylice lub używając specjalnych kopert z miesięcznych pakietów. CMENTARZ Pragniemy poinformować, że od kilku tygodni stanowisko opiekuna cmentarza sprawuje pan Sławomir Kurpiewski. Do jego obowiązków należy przygotowanie i obsługa pochówków zarówno w grobie jak i w Kolumbarium, jak również troska o ogólny wygląd cmentarza i jego prawidłowe funkcjonowanie. Życzymy panu Sławomirowi owocnej współpracy i satysfakcji z posługi pełnionej w naszej wspólnocie. Za kilka tygodni będziemy obchodzili Memorial Day. Bardzo prosimy o uporządkowanie terenów na grobach i dekoracji w najbliższej okolicy pomników, tak aby pracownicy cmentarza koszący trawę mogli bez przeszkód wykonać swoją pracę.
