God has set before you fire and water; to whichever you choose, stretch forth your hand. This is a great mystery: God does not control us so completely that we cannot choose our own path. We have certain boundaries, of course, but no one but we can choose our way within those boundaries. In today s reading from Matthew s Gospel, Jesus reminds us of our freedom and our responsibility for our lives. He calls us to look beyond the words of the commandments, all the way to their meaning. Look beyond the adultery to the selfishness that poisons our love. Look beyond the murder to the anger that eats away at our compassion. Look beyond the perjured testimony to the lies and deception that drive our behavior. Our vocation is to choose life for ourselves, and to choose a path through our part of the world that helps make life possible and more abundant for others as well. Page 3 UPDATE ON GYMNASIUM PROJECT We would like to share with you the recent developments on the St. Joseph School Gymnasium Project: Bishop McManus gave permission to the General Contractor to obtain new bids from the sub-contractors. The Gym Executive Committee met on Jan. 24th with Mark Lauring, General Contractor to address several details on the project. In the next few weeks we will find out the actual cost to complete the project. At the present time we have in the Diocesan DEF account $2.3 million on deposit with the commitment of The Friends of St. Joseph School fund of $525,000 we should have enough money to finish the project. ENRICHMENT PROGRAM During the Lenten Season the Hospitality Committee is sponsoring a special program for married couples at the St. Joseph School cafeteria on Saturdays from 2:30 4:00pm. A sound family life depends on a happy marriage. Marital life is not a one-way-street, but requires mutual sacrifices, selfgiving and personal adjustments. These several enrichment seminars will help married couples to re-energize their marriage. The presenters will identify common issues and obstacles and offer helpful suggestions. CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK REFLECTION Catholic Schools Week observance at SJS began with a Migration Mass and all in attendance experienced the Tour of Countries at the school. Bishop McManus, Celebrant and Homilist spoke about the importance of immigrants in the United States who bring a strong Catholic Identity. Each classroom was decorated with projects and posters of many countries. Visitors toured the countries and were also entertained in the cafeteria followed by the tasting of international food especially prepared for this event. The halls were filled with families from the school, visitors, parishioners and potential families willing to join SJS. Throughout the week, various activities and events continued Blessing Bags were created to support the homeless, valentine cards for nursing home residents, roadside coffee for parents in the morning, national hat parade for students, living rosary for students in the Basilica, spaghetti supper, open house, guest speakers, concluding with the annual parent/ student basketball game on Saturday. This year s Catholic Schools Week was a joyous event and one which will be tough to duplicate. After New Year s Day it is the most celebrated holiday around the world. It was first associated with romantic love in the High Middle Ages when one s love was expressed by presenting flowers, offering confections and Valentine cards. Happy Valentine s Day to all! Mark your calendar - St. Andrew Bobola Church will be hosting a PASTA SUNDAY/SPAGHETTI DINNER on Feb. 26th in the church hall at 2:00pm. KRONIKA PARAFIALNA SZÓSTA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA 12 lutego 2017 Ani oko nie widziało, ani ucho nie słyszało, ani serce człowieka nie zdołało pojąć, jak wielkie rzeczy przygotował Bóg tym, którzy Go miłują. Nam zaś objawił to Bóg przez Ducha. (1 Kor, 2, 9-10) Jakże często można usłyszeć mądrych tego świata, którzy odrzucają Boże przykazania twierdząc, iż nie cierpią ograniczeń, że kochają wolność. Gdyby pojęli tajemnicę Bożej mądrości, dostrzegliby, że Dekalog jest darem kochającego Ojca, który nie chce, by Jego dzieciom stała się krzywda. Ale człowiek jest wolny i może wybierać. Jak to czynić, by potem nie żałować? Módlmy się częściej do Ducha Świętego. On bowiem przenika wszystko, nawet głębokości Boga samego. Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona na Zobowiązania Diecezjalne. MSZE ZA ZMARŁYCH Kiedy musimy zmierzyć się ze śmiercią kogoś bliskiego, ofiarowana w intencji tej osoby Msza św. lub inna modlitwa, jest to wiele lepszym pocieszeniem i ukojeniem, niż jedynie bukiet pięknych kwiatów czy okolicznościowa kartka. Modlitwa, a Eucharystia w szczególności, daje możliwość okazania miłości i wsparcia w osiągnieciu obiecanej nagrody wiecznej. W naszej Bazylice Msze święte sprawowanie są każdego dnia. Oczywiście Msze niedzielne są sprawowane w bardzie uroczysty sposób, ale każda Msza jest tak samo ważna. W celu zamówienia Mszy prosimy o kontakt z biurem parafialnym, lub bezpośrednio z księżmi.
