Page Two December 12, 2010 Spiritual Reflection I CAN WAIT In today s reading Saint James urges us to be patient. Make your hearts firm, he says, because the coming of the Lord is at hand (James 5:8). Being patient means enduring without complaint. The farmer mentioned in today s Gospel cannot make the harvest arrive ahead of schedule, but must wait for the sun, the rain, and the good earth to do their work. Yet while the plants are growing there are tasks to be done in the effort to ensure a good crop, such as weeding, fertilizing, and keeping away pests. Thus it is in Advent: God is sending us a savior, but we must prepare for his coming. Children, however, are born impatient. Having their needs met translates into survival and helps them establish bonds with those who love and care for them. As children grow, they learn valuable lessons in tolerance and understanding when they do not get what they want right away. Everyone has seen toddlers who melt down when they have to wait for something. It is more unsettling to see this same behavior in older children or adults, but it happens if they have not learned patience. If we have children, Advent is a yearly opportunity to teach patience. The Church tells to wait four weeks a long time for children. Many families use Advent calendars and Bible story books to focus their children on the day-by-day unfolding of this season. They take their children to an Advent penance service and help them to choose gifts for people named on the parish giving tree. They light the candles on the Advent wreath before meals and say special prayers together. The family time spent savoring each bit of movement over God s good time helps children see the importance of waiting, watching, and learning. Copyright 2010, World Library Publications. Tak wołał świat w mrokach czasów przedchrystusowych, tak wołał również cały pogański świat. Prorok Izajasz oddaje te tęsknoty w następujących słowach: Obyś rozdarł niebiosa i zstąpił (Iz. 63, 19). Ludzie zawsze oczekiwali jakiegoś Mesjasza, jakiegoś Zbawcy, który miał zapoczątkować nowy, złoty wiek, jakąś nową erę. Różne były na ten temat przepowiednie samych Proroków w Starym Testamencie. W niektórych środowiskach żydowskich oczekiwano nawet przyjścia dwu Mesjaszów. Mesjasza - króla, który zajmowałby się sprawami doczesnymi i Mesjasza - syna Aarona czyli najwyższego kapłana, który zajmowałby się sprawami religijnymi. Są też wypowiedzi, które widzą go jako cichego - oczekiwanego przez wszystkie narody nauczyciela, który dzięki słowom i czynom stanie się nadzieją i wybawicielem wszystkich. Czy i Ty potrzebujesz koniecznie Chrystusa Zbawcy? Współcześnie pokłada się nadzieję w nauce i technice. Olbrzymie osiągnięcia, które dzieją się na naszych oczach, wydają się pewną rękojmią; leczymy choroby uważane dawniej za nieuleczalne, cudowne wprost zabiegi chirurgiczne odsuwają od nas chwile śmierci; życie ludzkie staje się dłuższe. Coraz bardziej są poznawane tajemnice świata, są one ujarzmiane i wciągane w służbę człowiekowi. Horyzonty i rozmiary naszej działalności poszerzają się sięgając już innych planet. Ale chociaż postęp ludzki idzie milowymi krokami naprzód i może obdarzyć dobrami i bajecznymi możliwościami, chociaż przedłuża życie i może przemienić całą ziemię w pałac cudów to jednak ludzie walczą ze sobą, niszczą się coraz bardziej potężnymi środkami i zabijają, bo serce ich jest chore, bo draźni je nienawiść. Współczesny człowiek jest tak bardzo rozbity wewnętrznie i smutny, zniewolony różnymi nałogami. Widzimy więc, że nauka i technika nie zastąpi nam Chrystusa Zbawcy. Chrystusa Zbawcy potrzebujemy dziś nie mniej niż dawniej i dlatego wołajmy do Niego słowami psalmu responsoryjnego: Przybądź o Panie, aby nas wybawić! Radujcie się! - zachęca nas dzisiaj św. Paweł. A mamy do tego wystarczające powody. Co więcej, mamy jeden powód dystansujący wszystko inne: Pan jest blisko. Możemy zbliżyć się do Niego, jak tylko chcemy. Za parę dni nadejdzie Boże narodzenie, wielkie święto dla nas chrześcijan, a także dla całej ludzkości, która często nieświadomie Go szuka. Nadchodzi Boże Narodzenie i Bóg chce, abyśmy byli radośni, jak pasterze, jak Mędrcy, jak Józef i Maryja. - ks. Idzi -

Page Six December 12, 2010 Holes More Parish Repairs Gas Pipe Water Pipe Just in time for the holidays, as we were preparing to give thanks to God for all the graces we have received throughout the year, we discovered that we had leaks in two more of our hot water pipes - this time, in between the church and school. Working on these pipes meant no heating for the church; therefore, we began repairs as quickly as possible the week after Thanksgiving. On the picture to the left, you may be able to see the thin pipe immediately next to the larger pipe. The larger pipe carried hot water, while the thin pipe is the gas line. The close proximity of these pipes made repairs more difficult, but it also helped us to discover that the gas pipes were corroded and in need of replacement, as well. After finishing these repairs, we certainly apologize for the shivers you may have experienced in church, and we hope that these repairs will avert any future such situations. Below you can see the new pipes that were installed.
